In an interview with Boom Box, R&B singer GINUWINE shared his thoughts about singer Aaliyah Haughton, who tragically died in 2001. When asked what he thought about how her career would have been today, he stated that Beyoncé is the closest resemblance of how successful Aaliyah would have been:
“Aaliyah was in a class by herself. If you’re talking triple threat of a writer, singer and actress, that would probably be Beyonce. If Aaliyah were still here, she and Beyoncé would be neck and neck.”
Although other artists like Ciara have been compared to the late singer, Ginuwine made it clear that there’s nothing wrong with it and added:
“I think everyone should aspire to be someone great, and that was one of the greats. Aaliyah was one of the great ones.”
Tank would probably be in agreement with Ginuwine. We recently sat down with the singer/songwriter who worked closely with Aaliyah on her last two albums and he spoke candidly about her and her influence. Make sure to peep the video above.

I think this is very true and a lot of ppl compare them but I think they both would still b very successful.
The statements may very well be true, but the fact that they’re coming from a few washed up 90s R&B Kings make the statement seem a little irrelevant.
The true underlying message in the whole Aaliyah case is; if her and R. Kelly really have a fling? If that’s true I guess that mean he really F-ed her.
No way! Aaliyah and Ciara would be neck and neck, not beyonce.
she was pretty with an “okay” voice but she and Beyonce are not in the same league and would never be. The truth is that Aaliyah was an industry bicycle. she’s not the angel her fans try to make her out to be. She was married to r kelly(the biggest pervert in music), at 15!? Need i say more?
i’ve never understood why people make a big fuss about her like she is some great talent. no way
Because she wasn’t a sell out like beyonce . blonde hair light colored eyes. beyonce does what she is told. yeah she may have hits . but she’s a sell out She wordship her white counterparts . Like said If Aaliyah was still here beyonce would be hot But she wouldn’t be on Aaliyah’s level at all. I believe Kelly as a much better voice then beyonce . I wish beyonce set here wannabe 5 grade educated tail down . Her public speaking skills sounds like a 3rd grade wrote her speech. She was no where near as humble as aaliyah was. Beyonce the same person that a had a hospital shut down because she was having a baby ( leaving a father and mother of two premature twins ) not able to see there kids . News flash your not god you dont own nothing you want it to be private do it at home im sure she can hire a doctor to deliever your child .. . she may have hits but i’d never waste 5 cents on buying anything to do with her . let alone go to a concert .
I agree Lola_UK…B is way out of Aaliyah league.
I would have to disagree @lola uk, I think the complete opposite. I think ppl overrate Beyonce. Beyonce’s talent seems like more when you comapare it to her peers in the game today, but in the 90s, even those ppl who couldn’t sAng, still could sing (unlike ppl like Rihanna, who can’t sIng period). I definately think Aaliyah’s celebrity would be at the same level as B on the strenght that she was a great actress (unlike B), so I can only imagine where her acting career would have taken her along with her singering career.
@SG3
“Aaliyah…was a great actress”
Have you seen Romeo Must Die? Are we being for real here are you just joking because you know good and well that neither of them can act their way out of a paper bag!
I loved Aaliyah like the rest of them but I highly doubt she would have stopped B’s shine or been “neck and neck” with B. NEGATIVE! But in all honesty, I don’t think that was in Aaliyah’s personality to be that way.
Bey is a hustler- she wants it all: clothing line, fragrance, world tour, acting, the moon. Aaliyah just always seemed more down to earth and humble. I’m sure she wanted more success as well, but I just couldn’t see her being as “oversaturated” as Bey can be sometimes.
And let’s be real- Aaliyah wasn’t selling out arenas or headlining world tours. Her music was good- but it wasn’t great or honestly “groundbreaking” (not to say that Bey’s is either). I think they are/were two completely different artists in two completely diff lanes and we should leave it at that.
But yea- Ciara would be the only one career less if she were still here.
Aaliyah was a tripple threat. Sing, dance and act. Aaliyah was getting big time movie roles Beyonce could never fill because Beyonce can’t act as well as she sings and dances. I would have to say Aaliyah would be bigger because she had this thing about her that Beyonce does not have. NOT to take anything away from Bey but I just feel Aaliyah would have been the bigger star. Yes Bey has a bigger voice but their are people out there with bigger voices than Bey and are not stars. #ImJusSaying!
Chris your comment is void! Next! R u serious!
There were a lot of evil people saying hateful things about Aaliyah on another site that posted this quote. How pathetic! Her music and beauty will live on forever. God bless A And her family.
I agree
Aaliyah would have been very successful her career was just about to explode she was much more talented than most artist today. Beyonce may not be as popular as she is now but she would have been still successful. There is room for more than one successful black artist at a time. I truly miss Aaliyah here in Detroit!
LOL… Beyonce to Aaliyah…yeah right. Aaliyah actually stood out and resembles what a real artist should be and had grown during the process of being in the biz. If she was still alive she would eat Beyawnce up for breakfast lunch and dinner.
AMEN!!!!
I DONT THINK SO…….AALIYAH WAS A GREAT ARTIST BUT, BEYONCE DRIVEN AND WORKS VERY HARD AND SHE CAN ACTUALLY SING….BOTH WOULD PROBABLY BE ON TOP OF THERE GAME.
I really think Aaliyah would kill Beyawnce in sales. She is so talented, and I really miss her sound!
beyodel jacked everyone from jlo to the jacksons..Aaliayh was an orginal..its no suprise that beyaki was there to “pick up the pieces” after she died..conspiricy much?
I agree with u 100%..Aaliyah was just wonderful inside and out…the only way Beyonce would have been better than her was if matthew Knowles ended up managing her career…lol!! team Aaliyah
I think they were trying to be nice when comparing the two, I think Aaliyah would’ve smoked Beyonce. Aaliyah was inventive, experimental and creative with her music.
My vote is for Aaliyah!!!! She was more LIKEABLE because you felt she was the pretty girl you had a crush on who lived around the corner who you knew you didn’t have a chance with but liked her anyway because she was kewl and she could ACT. I dont get that feeling with Beyonce but i do like her drive and some of her music. Hate her acting!!!!!!!
CO-SIGN 100%
I honetsly always thought that if Aaliyah was was still here, Beyonce would not have been the star she is today. Entertainment is about timing and there has to be a void to fill in order for an entertainer to be successful. Once Aaliyah left Beyonce filled the void.
Im so fuckin tired of people talking like that. Destiny’s Child was bigger than Aaliyah and this by far. Monica, Brandy and Toni were slaying her as well. I dont think she would have even resisted to Alicia Keys’ success! The “Aaliyah” album was struggling in the charts as well as the singles which is the main reason why she rushed all these videos and singles to promote it! Ive seen the performance quality of Aaliyah, her vocal range, her acting game, her beauty and Bey would have been standing on her two feet regarless, even though Aali would have been doing her thing too. I love Aaliyah but people need to stop!
I do agree WHAT?. Aaliyah was a good artist, but she didn’t have a strong voice and i don’t know about people “slaying” her, but they definitely would have been just s popular had she still been alive. We aren’t dissin’ her or her accomplishments, we’re just bein’ honest.
ugh mabye because aaliyah was a vocalist not a singer fuck u mean
@what???? Are you serious?! Aaliyah’s self titled album was released just 5 weeks before her death, and “We Need a Resolution”–released in April of that year–was the album’s only single out at the time. Aaliyah had JUST begun to promote “More Than a Woman” as the followup single and she and her team readied “Rock the Boat” to follow 3rd and to give Aaliyah the opportunity to finish Queen of the Damned and commit herself to the shooting schedule for The Matrix sequels.
@WHAT???
I agree. Aaliyah is a good example of someone who has become “iconic” in death. She was a fluffed-up lounge singer with a pretty face, family connections into the entertainment industry, and an affinity for witchcraft. That’s it. By most accounts, like most female entertainers, she was also a big wh*re who was sleeping with every major rapper, and some female rappers in the “industry”. The Most High removed one demon to make the way for an even bigger demon, that being Beyonce.
i totally agree. There was no one out @ the time that could give Beyonce any competition. She was virtually alone. i think they both would of had great careers because they were totally different. I personally liked Aaliyah more because she was original. I think Beyonce is somewhat overrated and she copies those that came before her. I don’t think Aaliyah could be compared to any one else out during that time because she didn’t do what they were doing. She did what she wanted and had her own sound. She didn’t have to have a strong voice because she had so much more to add to it. Beyonce is only where she is because of her father and Jigga. She used Destiny Child as a platform to get to where she is. They got rid of those in the group that could truly give her competition. And to say that she was a whore is ridiculous. Because you can bet that Beyonce slept with her share of dudes just the same. Nowadays you don’t have to be a vocalist to be a star, look @ Rihanna. She can’t sing at all. Aaliyah had her connections in the game and so did Bey. Like I said they both would have been at the top but in two different categories.
I have to agree. Aaliyah had some serious hits back in the day both with R. Kelly and then with Tank, Timbaland, etc… So she certainly would have continued to flourish as an artist and probably would have had clothing lines and modeling and much more. And, while I am not a Beyonce fan, the woman is driven and motivated and they are just two different types of artists. Like someone mentioned, there were lots of other artists out when Aaliyah passed and they were doing just as well or better than Aaliyah. The girl was beautiful and had a great following, but I just don’t think comparing her to Beyonce or vice verse makes sense. Apples and oranges in my opinion…
@WHAT????
I never comment on this stuff but I have to state facts regarding how well Aaliyah’s final album was doing commercially:
First off ‘Aaliyah’, her 3rd studio album, had just released on July 17 2001, Aaliyah died on August 25 2001. Aaliyah was in the middle of promotion which includes radio promo, street promo, shooting videos etc at the time of her death for this release. This release in fact was doing solidly well within the charts.
She entered US Billboard 200 at #2. That is the overall chart for all albums of all genres. She sold 190,000 copies 1st week & an additional 330,000 sold world wide so she was well on her way to becoming certified Gold which it eventually did 5 weeks later.
Moreover on the week of her death, it rose to #1 in Billboard 200 & 2 on the R&B charts. So you are telling me she was struggling? And I quote:
“As a percentage of sales increased 800%, making the biggest increase in sales in history.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaliyah_(album)#Commercial_performance
I have always said it and I’ll say it again Aaliyah was poised to cross boundaries both genre wise and entertainment-wise. She was the triple threat that had both loyal fans within the R&B/Hip-Hop community and outside within the Pop crowd. Moreover those like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ciara, etc have picked up career-wise (including branding etc) where Aaliyah left off. Let me break it down:
Beyoncé- Singer/Actress + Pop audience sensation, Aaliyah was well no her way to doing all of this. But unlike Beyoncé, Aaliyah was believable in everything she did. She had heart whereas Beyoncé bops around like an automaton that does everything she is told to do by her management, record label and various business partners all to make some dough. Is that wrong? No, but I personally enjoy connecting with a singer – or an entertainer for that matter- that conveys a message and more importantly can make me FEEL that message. Everyone know that Beyoncé has a voice but has anyone been truly moved by that voice. Doesn’t anyone ever remember the stink that Etta James made about Beyoncé representing her in ‘Cadillac Records’? She didn’t want Beyoncé playing her cause she does not make the audience FEEL her. As a singer you have to connect with the audience and the piece you are singing, and she never has, never will. Aaliyah always connected and this is one of the main reasons she still has such a strong fan base- even after her death.
Rihanna- She picks off the bad-girl/dominatrix, hard edge that Aaliyah was beginning to carefully craft for herself. For every girl next door vibe she gave which connected with her female fans, the dudes connected with her sexier out-there and take command ‘I’m in control’ vibe. Just take a look at the video for ‘We Need A Resolution’, ‘More Than A Woman’ even go back to ‘Are You That Somebody’. Rihanna took the darker elements that Aaliyah was already known for and capitalized on it. Kudos to her but still Aaliyah was the first to do it stylistically- dark hair, the shades, the roughness- within her branding. To her audience it was always apparent she could hold it down in a grown woman way, even if she was young. Moreover, it never felt like a put-on, it was all her.
Ciara- Do I even need to explain? Some might compare their voices but in the end Ciara is a dancer first and foremost and has more in comparison with Ms.Janet Jackson than she does with Aaliyah.
I rest my case. Also if anyone wants to come up with info about someone struggling financially please check Billboard first. Alot of times what it appeared to be and what was actually happening are two different things.
Aaliyah was/is on another level.. she was beyond the galaxy.. I don’t think she would have even seen anyone from where she was going.. So beyond this world.
Aaliyah was on another level – a high level of R&B artists who put on a great show, decently dance, and are pretty -that’s it. Beyonce (while NOT EVEN one of my favorites), clearly has the advantage vocally, and no disrespect to Aaliyah, but let’s be real – Robert Kelly created that machine, then Timbaland and Missy drove her sound to even more record sales, so she was the front for their talents. A great front, but not “on another level” as you describe. Keep it 100.

I dont know….this TOPIC is irrelevant in my OPINION. ITs just another BOW & ARROW with BEYONCE as the target, and personally, IM SICK OF IT. No disrespect to Aaliyah but we cant say what she would’ve been or whatever, ONLY GOD KNOWS and none of you should even try to act like you OWN that kind of POWER.
Agreed.
Right. People claim Beyonce as the queen and we still have all these other folks out here making albums, so how can someone say people wouldn’t have careers if Aaliyah were still here. You don’t know!
Wrong. Based on what an artist accomplishes, certain things are expected, and opportunity was evident in Aaliyah’s case partly by looking at the growing number of film roles she was offered in response to the surprising talent, professionalism and maturity she gave to Romeo Must Die. Aaliyah was evolving and gaining serious ground in both music and film. Her talents, her potential and the wisdom to know what to do with it is more than enough to lend assumption to where Aaliyah might be today had she continued on the same track.
its called an opinion ppl. Everyone has one. While I don’t think that B’s career would be lacking if Aaliyah was alive I definately know for sure Aaliyah would be a force in the game. She, like Tank of G mentioned, was a true triple threat. She wrote (for real, not just getting credit for an octave change) sing, and could actually act (Love B but she gets roles because she is Beyonce, not b/c of her acting talent). But she definately would have have been a huge movie star, cause she was such a good actress. I remember her saying how she turned down many roles prior to Romeo must Die b/c she wasn’t ready, but she had been acting since a very young age. That’s true dedication to a craft. She would have been bad as hell in Matrix triology too. She was the perfect fit for that, RIP baby girl!
Aaliyah and Beyonce would have both been huge together. I believe Aaliyah however would have opened up a lot of more doors than Beyonce in terms of darker-skinned African American women in the industry. Unlike Beyonce, Aaliyah was a very good actress. Aaliyah open the door for Beyonce in my opinion to be accepted more into commercial and pop culture audience. Aaliyah was already working with big names like Tommy Hilfiger, and it was a shame she had to past right during the turn of the century when African American women were being more embraced in that industry. Something she had ignited during her span. I think she pioneered a lot for African American women in the industry in her generation. Beyonce just basically picked up where she left off at, and you could do nothing but appreciate Beyonce for that, because she is doing a terrific job.
It would have been great to see where Aaliyah would have been now in the industry. Ciara is the closet comparison we have to Aaliyah, but it’s a number of things Ciara lacked. She don’t have Aaliyah classic beauty, she has nothing on her songs, and her acting tank.
Aaliyah exemplified grace and beauty in her dancing. She made timeless songs that to this day is still the shit. She was the first female R&B artist to tap in the pop genre while at the same time maintain her R&B roots. She’s what you would call one of the ones that wasn’t a sell out. Each of her three solo albums you see an artist grow and evolve within her music. It’s so sad however that she’s gone, because the only thing you can say about her was that she was going to be great.
“She was the first female R&B artist to tap in the pop genre while at the same time maintain her R&B roots.”
So what about Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige or Mariah Carey?
Sorry to bring this topic up, because I hate to beat a dead horse, and spark even more debates. But, since when has Aaliyah been considered darker skinned. No, she wasn’t as pale as Beyonce, but dark…no, not at all. And during that time period, folks didn’t seem quite as color struck. The dark skin/light skin thing made a comeback. I basically agree with everything else you said tho, except the first to bridge pop and R&B…because countless other black female artists did that before her…that’s what you call crossover.
I think what Chris means is Aaliyah was the youngest to be so successful at it, so not really the first but the first of her age. And I respect his other points too.
I agree with most of what you said, but outside of a soft voice and dancing I never got the Ciara comparisons. I guarantee if Aaliyah was still alive, ppl would have never thought twice about her and Ciara “jocking” her style. When I see Ciara, i see a great entertainer with a decent voice. When I see Aaliyah I see an enteratiner, vocalist, and an actress. Aaliyah had the abilty to rely soley on her vocals during a performace. I don’t think Ciara has mastered that (live) at least. No shade to Ci tho, b/c I’ve been an Aaliyah fan since “Back & Forth” but I am not to proud to remind us all that Aaliyah sounded like a bag of hot ass mess when she sang live at the beginning of her career. She grew alot vocally, and developed great vocal control. I see Ciara’s improvement as well, but the main difference is Aaliyah had so much more depth to her voice then Ciara. Ciara has a more thin voice like Janet, and she sounds awesome with the right songs (esp slow jams).
That was what I was trying to say. She was the youngest African American to be doing that during her time. Aretha, Patti, Whitney, Diana, etc have all waited until their lates 20s and early 30s to jump on to that. She on the other hand knew where she wanted to go with her music which is why she did it. Aaliyah was the first and youngest African American performer at the artist, and than Beyonce. Aaliyah was supposed to do Sparkle, but died before production which is why Beyonce got the shot at doing ‘Dreams Girls!’ My point is Aaliyah paved away for the younger audience. Yes, she may not been looked at as great, but she was groundbreaking nonetheless. Aaliyah had tapped into a new sound with her album Aaliyah, and fans were confused, and didn’t know how to accept it. We can’t judge a crossover album especially one that was not given enough expression from the artist that made it. I’m sure she would have picked up on success later on with the album as Lady Gaga and P!nk did. It was something new during her time and it was not easily embraced.
If Aaliyah were alive today, I do believe that the female R&B game would be different. Aaliyah was an artist of true form…Beyonce is a product. Vast difference. The End
Lol lol lol Oh really, if Beyoncé is a product, why cant they make another Beyoncé??
@Both Were Great…
Why can’t they make another Beyoncé? Look at how Beyoncé was created to begin with. First, she was out during a time where female R&B groups were popular. Destiny’s Child, who even had a rocky beginning themselves, were trailing off of the success of the 90′s Female Groups: SWV, 702, Total, Changing Faces, Brownstone, Zhané, just to name a few. They used that platform to hone Beyoncé’s skills. The phenomenon of singing groups be they girl or guy is dead nowadays, meaning it is not the current trend has not been since the early half of the 2000′s. So here, point one.
Point two, Beyoncé’s dad used DC as a platform to launch Beyoncé into solo stardom by giving her most of the singing parts and focusing attention on her during the group. She had more camera time in the videos, was always placed in the foreground center with the other girls a smidgen behind her, and she was given blond hair (she didn’t start out with blond hair) to juxtapose the current white reigning pop queen — Britney Spears. While in the group, they also gave more attention to Beyoncé’s name inciting that she had written and produced much of the Writings on the Wall album which based on recent findings in her solo albums of today was more than likely a lie since she doesn’t write nearly any of her music and has a habit of lying about her contributions. While also in the group, they gave her a multitude of side projects: that Carmen movie, she was in Case’s music video for Missing You, etc. etc. This gave the public more exposure to her in general.
Let’s see what else…. we no longer have the same platforms for promotion that we did in the 90′s and early 2000′s. MTV has basically parted ways with anything to do with music. There’s no more MTV Cribs, no Diary, no TRL – at least anything that holds a candle to Carson Daly’s run with it — basically none of the shows that existed when our older stars came up are available for this newer generation to build a relationship or rapport with their fans. Something that was advantageous to Beyoncé — and artists during her time in general.
Lastly, the recording industry is losing money every day. This is the most obvious answer. They cannot make another Beyoncé because Beyoncé was not made overnight. Destiny’s Child’s first album struggled to go gold, and it wasn’t until the No, No, No Remix did anyone give two shits about them and by that time that album was dead and they used the momentum of Wyclef’s Remix to release a single from the Writings on the Wall. It took a great deal of time, even, for this album to be accepted by Pop radio and much of this can be assessed to the mainstream medias that I mentioned above which enabled exposure to a wider audience – these same medias, which again, aren’t available to new artists today. Even her success with her debut solo album took time — I remember not many people were feeling Crazy In Love when it first came out, and her single from Austin Powers, Work It Out, failed to catch any steam. (OH! Look at that, another way she was force fed down into the public’s throats as she was preparing to come out into solo stardom. Let’s also not forget that she garnered more recognition and acceptance when she partnered with Jay-Z for Bonnie & Clyde. This was made in 03 when she was still very much apart of DC.) The fact that she released an album either via Destiny’s Child or a solo album every year for 6 years also has a lot to do with her success now. She over saturated the market while the iron was hot — which is a good strategy. Keeping her name in the public ensured she would not be forgotten and likewise has given people like you the idea that because her name was/is always being spoken, she has some kind of supreme reign over every one else
. Had she taken a break somewhere in between — like she is doing now, when she is assured due to the failing music industry its unlikely someone new or someone who has come after her and is black (Lady Gaga is the exception here since she leaped across all the hurdles Bey had to face as a black artist) will “take her spot” as you guys call it — I wonder if her success would be as huge. Food for thought.
The end (:
@ Jussayin, do you really think anybody gonna read that? lol lol lol
@jussaying WOW! Well said!!
@jussaying…well said.
Lol @Bothweregreat. “Do you really think anyone is going to read that, lol! But read this my friend, to answer your question, the created Lady GaGa beyonce part 2. any questions??
@Jussaying….you told the damn truth
@jussaying…you broke it down, very well said.
@ Both Were Great… If by anyone you mean you, I suppose not maybe because you weren’t expecting someone to answer your question thoroughly and rationally thus lending some holes in what was an intended smart ass reply to begin with.
If by anyone you mean the literal definition, well, the comments directed to me answer your question. Thanks and good day (:.
@Jussaying well said
@Jussaying: I see I’m not the only person in the world who leaves detailed answers and comments to otherwise simple questions. VERY WELL STATED!
uh yeah….TANK can get it!!!!
Yaasssssssss!!!! Stay away from my husband though! You don’t want it with me, heaux!
Tank is gorgeous… Love him!
Ya’ll are silly… but, you’re right, lol!
If they’re talking about black females who sing “pretty” and ROBOTIC i.e. with VIRTUALLY NO SOUL, there’s a bunch of Aaliyah types out there, Ciara, Teiarra, Nicki…etc RIP BABY GIRL I MISS U!
+ Beyonce & Rihanna both sing with more soul than Aaliyah did, btw. That’s my opinion. Loved Aaliyah, but that’s my thoughts.
Rihanna can’t sing what are you talking about? You can’t even compare her to Rihanna. That’s like comparing Martha Stewart to Paris Hilton. Rihanna is a robotic industry sex slave who tries be overly sexualized in order to sell what her voice can’t. Have you ever heard “Age Ain’t Nothin But a Number” and “One in A Million?” That was the last of soul we truly got from R&B singers after the fall of R&B! Know your music sweetie. Rihanna can’t sing R&B! Her voice is computer programmed only.
how dare you say rihanna has more of a soulful voice then aaliyah i didnt know goats screaming was considered soulful my question is what would u say jennifer hudson voice sounds like? pop
Please dont put Rihanna and soul in the same sentence. And please dont put rihanna in the same sentence as Beyonce when it comes to singing. Rihanna is not a singer.
where is this so called “soulfull” music that has come out of beyodey?? Halo isn’t soulful, single ladies isn’t soulful, freakem dress isnt soulfull..im a diva isn’t soulful..etc.. ur using reverser pychology right? u mean shes snatching souls..cause aint nothing soulfull about the queen of lacefronts..and rupaul knows how to rock a lacefront the best..her stylist needs to contact ru. asap!!!
You sound dumb as hell .. for that comment . I love rihanna but even i know she can’t sing .. and beyonce can’t either she can hold a tune but she can’t sing ..
LMAO at this topic being posted to start some ish.
Anywho, Ginuwine needs to pipe down because there’s no way in hell Beyonce and Aaliyah would be neck and neck.
I love me some Aaliyah but she wasn’t at thee top of her game when she died and she wouldn’t be now. No shade, just keeping it real.
I believe you were misinformed, and I know your crazy comments come from overly obsession with Beyonce. When I read your comment I had to do research for myself.
Aaliyah’s Third and Final Album which was released the 7 weeks before her death sold over 13 millions copies world wide. It sold 3 million in the U.S. alone. The album reviews garnered critical acclaim, because they never knew someone her age can do a record like that.
She was signed on to do 3 movies before her death, and people were going crazy over her.
During her time “Perfumes, Clothing lines, etc.” were not big amongst celebrities until around 2005ish. That’s what measures Beyonce success. Her albums sell, but they don’t really sell.
You present a none factual argument which leads you to sound stupid and very much of a hater!
Well Rolling Stone….Billboard….Life…Sells….Time and many other Outlets & People say different
Aaliyah BROKE a few Records SWEETTY
Google that….
She was and still IS The Youngest African American to Perfrom at the OSCARS….That ALONE puts some of these Artist career to SLEEP
Your facts may be true, but you are talking about 2 different time periods in the industry. You can’t really compare record sales from 8 – 10 years ago to now, because there are so many other ways to get music now. Stealing music is much more common, so no ones album sales are what they use to be. So your facts are not as affective as you think they are.
My comment was @ Chris. Just to clarify. Not necessarily supporting FALLBACKHATERS because i don’t really now. But what I said is true at least.
@ Chris, Im one of Aaliyah’s biggest fans and @ Fallbackhaters is true. The album wasnt doing great UNTIL she died. You should ask yourself why in less than three months, she had three singles out and was rushing to shoot her third single in August while the album was just released in July!! Im sure when you did your researches, you forgot to see that the album and her status rocketted AFTER death. Its heartbreaking but its nothing but the truth. She had posthumous success. Its written all over her official wikipedia page btw. And please stop downgrading Beyoncé. Beyoncé’s first album sold 13 millions. She sold by herself around 48,900,000 records with her three eras/albums only in the US. Destiny’s Child were standing on their two feet when Aaliyah was there and were more successful. Aaliyah was great and was on the merge of more success but stop.
Read between the lines. No one said that one would be better then the other, but the both of them would be right there with each other. U must be a Beyonce fan and probably not old enough to remember what Aaliyah did. So I will let it slide this time.
@Both were great! This is a misconception. Aaliyah had ONE single out for the album and it was already 4 months old in the 1 month before her death that she started to promote “More Than a Woman” as the new single. They only had “Rock the Boat” prepared to free Aaliyah for other projects and because the team had their own timetable and knew what goals they wanted to accomplish. “Rock the Boat” was not set to be released until well after “More Than a Woman”, but fans were EXTREMELY eager after Aaliyah’s death to see all that she had done and the label went ahead and gave us what we asked for. Artists and filmmakers continue to shoot projects back to back today and it’s called “smart thinking”.
im gonna have to disagree because when aaliyah was alive beyonce didnt have the fame she does now aaliyah was playing that role after she died thats when beyonce started getting big i know that before aaliyah died she was my beyonce i didnt really care about beyonce like that
Let’s just keep it real. Aaliyah only received so much success because she died so unexpectedly. How many times does a celeb die and their album sales go through the roof. Look what happened when MJ died.
I’m not being mean, I’m just being honest. If it were between the two ladies Beyonce would STILL be at the top, regardless of whether Aaliyah was around now.
Wow. talking sh*t about someone and saying no shade is redundant. People are so jealous and insecure that it’s sickening . She has passed on let her be.
WOW No BEY Ashanti AAliyah A Keys would be your top females AAliyah wasn’t all that come on
Eventhough I Loved Aaliyah..people really didn’t get start caring about her until she passed
so true
u people need to stop hating on celebs ok
WHy do people say things about AAliyah being all that she really wasn’t Damn I would hate to see when Ashanti die are beyonce then you can talk they did more I believe AAliyah would be not to much at the top
concreteloop stays with the exclusive! NICKI MINAJ SEX TAPE LEAKED!! http://www.loot6.com
How can ppl say ppl never cared about Aaliyah?
Did we all forget the trends she set? The baggy pants? The bang? The sunglasses? The cool girl look? Really?
Me and my girls were inspirsed by Aaliyah back then, and so was a lot of girls in school with us. I think this is the case where 21 years and younger should keep there opinions to themselves, because they were to young to even understand her influence during our ERA…really. You guys have whores like Rihanna & Beyonce 2 look up 2.
OKK!! Me too! Aaliyah was an ORIGINATOR in my opinion…she started all that you listed the side bang, baggy pants. I remember when she came out with the “Are You That Somebody” video. I was so mesmorized by it, I taped it and learned the whole dance!!
I think Aaliyah AND Beyonce’ would be on top together. Why do people feel only one person (Beyonce’) can have ultimate fame? There is room for a LOT of talent!!!
Beyonce can sing..Aaliyah can dance and act better. But they but are/were great!!
I’ve always said Aaliyah would be the only artist who could have given Beyonce a run for her money. B might have had her vocally but Babygirl had that it factor with a fantastic personality to go with it. I love Aaliyah and she will always have my vote for best R&B chick of my generation.
You hit it on the nail. EXACTLY
exactly because what people fail to realize aaliyah would have just grown with time her music would have gotten better ciara wouldnt have been here nor would rihanna say what you want bt beyonce wouldnt be as sucessful. Aaliyah wrote music that everybody can relate too.
IF Aaliyah was alive there would be no RIHANNA or CIARA
or Beyonce
^^Now I know you smoking something.
OKay so I can fairly answer this question. I was a DIE HARD Aaliyah fan back in the day. I still like her music. Today, I am a DIE HARD Beyonce fan….and I have to be honest. I think Beyonce would still be very successful, but instead of rihanna being the only rival people talk about, they’d also talk about Aaliyah….AND to be even more honest…as much as I love Aaliyah, vocally Beyonce is still a better singer. Just like I can say Jennifer Hudson is a better vocalist than Beyonce and I’m not a JHud fan. It’s just the truth. Sometimes when people pass away, we embellish a bit and make them seem so much better than they are…not that Aaliyah wasn’t great. I actually use to sing so I am speaking completely from a vocal perspective. Aaliyah’s voice was more of a “sweet bird”…Beyonce can really hit some high notes. I LOVE THEM BOTH but they are completely different types of singers.
AGREED. NOW PEOPLE ARE BEING SENSIBLE.
I feel you… but I don’t think this post is about vocal capability, I think it’s more a question of preference. Who would have been the preferred “it girl” if Aaliyah were alive? Yeah they’re different but so are Nas and Jay-Z… the “world” chose Jay-Z.
I do agree with you to an extent. But, like you said, they were totally different singers as in vocal style. So how could you compare who’s better vocally? We’ve gotten into this competition thing, even when it isn’t warranted. They had two different styles. Aaliyah could REALLY sing, but she wasn’t a powerhouse vocalist, and she didn’t have to be. She didn’t have “church style” vocals, and I don’t know why we only feel a person can sing is when they sing like that. Beyonce=powerhouse, Aaliyah was more laid back in her style. Babygirl had range, just not in the way we like to judge.
@IncenseNTea !!!!!!
Here we go again…
I wonder which one would Jay be married to??
aaliyah was dating dash so jay would have still been with bey
Jay was in luv wit Aaliyah he wouldn’t have noticed B
I think Beyonce would still be successful with Aaliyah here or not. She just has that “it factor” about her, she was on the trajectory up. But with that said, Aaliyah’s music has stood the test of time, I dont know if Beyonce’s music will really do that.
Excuse me but why are we comparing these two ladies. Aaliyah was amazing! My favorite artist at that time but Beyonce has definitely worked her butt off to get to where she is now. Things happen for a reason and God makes no mistakes. Thats whats wrong with us folks…..dont wanna give each other a chance……Our culture geez….smh
Can ppl let Beyoncé rest??? Jeez its not about comparing them, he is just saying that Aaliyah would be as well a successful triple threat black female artist in Hollywood. Please lets not compare them, Im sick and tired of that, they are ice and fire, very different. As far as Im concerned, I was a huge fan of Aaliyah and still I am but lets be clear here, Destiny’s Child was bigger than Aaliyah at the time, Destiny’s Child had a classic album, TWOTW which shaped contemporary R&B & Survivor was doing BIG. Aaliyah there or not, its clear as day that Beyoncé would be doing her thing and topping the charts regardless. Beyoncé is in her own league. This is very interesting cause Ive studied Aaliyah like crazy as a fan and Ive noticed since her death, people did overpraise her. Its the saddest because when she was alive, they didnt show her that much hype nor love.
Beyonce compared to Aaliyah. You really can’t compare them because they are so different. Would Aaliyah be still relevant is the real question? Her competitors back then were like Brandy & Monica. Neither of those two women are as POPULAR as Beyonce. Emphasis on POPULAR.
Aaliyah didn’t wear heels. She was the tom-boy kind of girl. She was pretty nonetheless. They are just too different to compare.
AMEN! And back then, both, Brandy & Monica were killing the charts way more than Aaliyah! Both outsung her! Brandy was one of the first black multimedia star before Aaliyah! Where are they today? I mean, I just hate when people compare but when you do it, tell the truth! the real question is would she still be relevant in the game in 2011?
Keri Hilson, Ciara, maybe would not exist, but Beyoncé would have been doing her thing regardless who was there. Aaliyah is my girl, a real star, and so is Beyoncé, but a lil overrated after her death. Dont get me wrong, Monica & Brandy in the 90′s were way more successful than her already. I think she would have been a greater actress than all these females and would be doing her thing but Rihhanna, Beyoncé or Alicia would have been doing their things, lets be honest. Ii love them all.
Aaliyah had a lane of her own, Beyonce and Aaliyah are two different artist they both would’ve been at the top, and they were friends so they probably would’ve done a song together
How come people arnt askin if A Keyes, Ashanti, or rihanna would be relevent if Aaliyah were still alive. Why Beyonce.
My honest opinion. I lovvvved Aaliyah back in the day. I loved her and Brandy. But Beyonce is in a league of her own and can, out sing and out perform both of them. Aaliyah’s dancing skills were great, but so are Beyonce’s. Vocally, beyonce slays and thats why makes her much better.
I dont think Ginuwine mentioned this to start a Beyonce vs Aaliyah war, Both would have been successful artists. They have two completely different singing styles. To say Beyonce would not be at the star level that she is stupid. Im sure Aaliyah would be a huge star but I do not think she would have stopped Beyonce’s obvious star power. So why arent Genuwine and Tannk bigger stars? Is it because of Usher….? Chris Brown….?? Trey Songz….?? If one of those artist were dead would they be bigger stars,,,,hmmmm Prob not.
Aaliyah was not only a singer, a performer but also an ENTERTAINER. Same goes for Beyonce’ she not only a singer but an entertainer. Why do you think before Beyonce’s concert she says ” Are you ready to be entertained”. Yes people resemble Aaliyah & Beyonce to others but they just have theirs characters not their full package.
I stan for Aaliyah but I will say this… Beyonce is def a queen BUT if Aaliyah were alive things might have gone a tad different. We all know she would have had the acting game on lock. She was growing to be an American sweetheart. There would have been no need for Ashanti, CiCi, or Keri… I mean they could have came out BUT Missy would have never worked with Ciara as loyal to Aaliyah as she was, Tim wouldn’t have needed Keri and folks would have just downright ignored Ashanti. Beyonce would still be Beyonce but to what degree? Mind you around the time they were both out people were still bitter about the Destiny’s Child breakups and still placing blame on Beyonce… right now people NEED that Black female artist to love and Beyonce is that chick. I’m not even gonna get into the Jay-Z, Aaliyah, Dame Dash weirdness that took place… Drake might not even be where he is right now… I would have loved to see “A” and “Bee” ruling the game and going head to head though.
I agree with Keri who wouldnt be needed by Timbaland, this is very true cause Aaliyah was is muse. Beyoncé would be Beyoncé to the extent she is in the music industry, maybe Aaliyah would have been a greater actress. Every old and new comer is compared to Beyoncé, especially performance wise which is one of her best assets. Beyoncé survived to Alicia, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Gaga, Britney, Christina, Justin, Usher, Shakira, Ciara, Pink, Keri, Janet, Brandy, Keyshia, Monica, Kesha, I mean, Beyoncé is still relevant after thirteen years and the fact that she is the one Ginuwine brought up speak volumes! I do love Aaliyah, but people embelished her career.
I’m not doubting she (Bee) would have survived Aaliyah but things might have been different when talking preference and who’s star power would have actually won over the masses… and that will always be debatable because Aaliyah is no longer living. You never know what Beyonce would have developed into, she might have never had the balls to go about her solo career the way that she did… who knows… it’s debatable… Certain changes in fate dictate the course of one’s life. We do know Aaliyah was topping the charts and was set for like 3 dif movies at the time of her passing, her fans felt like they knew exactly where she was going. Aaliyah held her own as Beyonce holds hers. Aaliyah had a few years on Beyonce so you never know what would have taken place. Aaliyah’s real fans don’t embellish, they knew who she was and who she was developing into… it’s all these extra people that hopped on after August 25th that are the problem. And honestly most folks out here just wrote Beyonce off as the “sanging girl group chick”… NO ONE saw her mega success coming. She totally flipped the game when she came out with her debut album…. :kanye shrug: point is, it’s all debatable and we’ll never know. All we can say is that certain things would have def been different and some things might have been different.
Sidenote Aaliyah is still relevant after nearly 20years of being introduced to the world and 10 years after her death.
If you was a real Aaliyah fan, you’ll know she wasnt topping the charts with her last album and singles. She was struggling. And to think that Beyoncé or any other artists wouldnt have the balls to release an album because of Aaliyah is ludacris. Once again, Aaliyah wasnt the top female artist at the time, not even the top R&B female artist. Destiny’s Child were even bigger. No one saw her mega success coming is debatable because she was the star in DC and had the voice, work ethic & looks, of course. Then again, you cant predict someone’s success or not.
Ok here we go… “Try Again” was doing well on the charts it made the Billboard and the video was doing EXTREMELY well on MTV… that year she was even Grammy nominated. When that last album came out “We Need a Resolution” was also on the Billboard, just because it’s not 1 or 2 doesn’t deem it a struggle or failure.. When “Aaliyah” came out in June is was like 1 or 2 on the R&B charts… so yup I think she was topping the charts… and that was months before she died. The success gauge was also a bit different from what we look at now when Beyonce has like 16 Grammys lol… Aaliyah was doing very well in mainstream pop and R&B. She was crossing over and the charts prove it.
YALL ARE KILLIN ME AALIYAH ISNT HERE HOW U GOING TO SIT HERE AND SAY BEYONCE IS KILLIN HER SHE DEAD BEEN DEAD FOR 10 YEARS NOW AALIYAH WASNT NO DAMN MUSE AALIYAH WAS DOING WELL B4 SHE DIED AND HER LAST CD CAME OUT IN JULY A MONTH B4 SHE DIED IT DEBUT ON THE CHARTS AT #2 4 WEEKS B4 SHE DIED AND YOU NAMING ALL THESE ARTIST THAT WASNT EVEN AROUND WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE SO HOW DO U KNOW THAT, THATS CRAZY INSANE
OK DNT BRING KERI OR ASHANTI IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS AALIYAH CAUSE THEY WASNT AROUND WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE THATS CRAZY AND BEYONCE WASNT A SOLO ARTIST AT THE TIME SHE WAS IN A GROUP AALIYAH WAS AHEAD OF HER TIME IN MUSIC SINGING WISE AND LYRIC WISE SHE PROBABLY CHANGE HER SINGING STYLE WE CANT JUDGE WE DNT KNOW
I agree with both tank and ginuwine. They are two artists that IN the music industry, they are not the audience..lol! so therefor they know exactly what they are talking about. I always felt that aaliyah.before she died…had just become a major superstar and was on her way to be a world superstar. I think she would have became a icon in the future! Aaliyah had a style and persona that no other artist had so that seperated her from the typical female artists! She would have been like a Michael, Janet, Mariah..for example of how artists have that niche that makes them rememberable and iconic. Aaliyah was original..just like michael jackson. I do think Aaliyah and beyonce are in two different catagories. Two great artists and both would be on top today!
Its not about being in the game! What have they done recently that is outstanding? what was Ginuwine supposed to say? Aaliyah was among his best friends!
@lool um what r u talking about..tank and ginuwine are speaking on from what they have experienced in the music industry. My point is valid! These two artists have worked closely with Aaliayah, therefor knew her potential. Your comment is void. Next!
and to add these two artists are still making music and their opinion is not based on their own music success..listen to tank and read ginuwine comments again..comprehend better!
I AGREE WITH GINUWINE AND TANK THEY KNEW AALIYAH MORE THAN US AS FANS AND THOSE THAT ARE NOT
And another thing..i wish people stop comparing somebody like Ciara to Aaliyah that is an insult!
I agree with him
Both women are equally talented, but Aaliyah was on the scene before Beyonce, and Aaliyah would have been a bigger movie star. She has such a pleasant voice, and star quality about her. Beyonce is very talented, and is a great entertainer, and business women, but her acting not that great. I contribute alot of that to her voice, and that is very important in hollywood. She is a very deep baritone to her voice, where is Aaliyah has a very soft tone, and she was really working on her acting before she passed-away. R.I.P.
I do feel bad for what happen to Aaliyah but I think her fans are only comparing her to Bey because they still have a problem letting go
Aaliyah was not on Beys level when she was alive and she still would have come after Bey if she was around today on talent and beauty level
NO IM AALIYAH FAN AND NO IM NOT COMPARING HER TO BEYONCE AALIYAH LEFT OFF WHAT BEYONCE IS DOING NOW AALIYAH WAS ON BEYONCE LEVEL B4 SHE DIED AND I THINK SHE STILL WOULD BE, MAYBE MORE BEYONCE WAS STILL IN DESTINY’S CHILD WHEN AALIYAH DIED AALIYAH WAS IN MOVIES AND SHE RELEASED A ALBUM B4 SHE DIED THATS MY PROBLEM I GIVE BEYONCE RESPECT CAUSE OF A HARD WORKER SHE IS BUT SHE ISNT ALL THAT
LOL LOL LOL you people need to check the receipts!! Let’s see their status’ before she died. Let’s also see who was dominating between her, Brandy & Monica at the time. Go check the sales and the live performances. I mean, I love Aaliyah but as soon as she died, she rose in people’s eyes, just like every person who passes away, anonymous or famous! She wasnt a threat to anyone at the time! Sorry! She was doing her lil thing and was about to blow as an actress, would still be doing her today but people need to stop! Ginuwine wanted to say she would have been a triple threat and in Hollywood, there would have been two black female supertars who could sing, dance and act successfully! But equally? I dont think so! Keri Hilson would have been a struggling artist right now, cause Timbaland wouldnt spend his time, he already had a muse!
great comment!!!
Thank YOU!
OK AGAIN JUST LIKE THE OTHERS I THINK AALIYAH WOULD BE BIG CAUSE SHE WAS GETTIN THERE TO ME AALIYAH WAS ALREADY BIG DURING THE 90S SHE CAME ALITTLE BEFORE BRANDY A YEAR B4 MONICA BRANDY SECOND ALBUM CAME OUT IN 1998 AND SO DID MONICAS AALIYAH SECOND ALBUM CAME OUT IN 1996 THE ONLY REASON BRANDY GOT BIG BECAUSE OF HER TV SHOW AND SHE BROKE IN FLIMS OK MORE AUDIENCE TO ME MONICA WASNT REALLY THAT BIG INTIL HER AND BRANDY DID THAT SONG TOGETHER SOON WHEN 1999 OR 2000 CAME AALIYAH STARTED TO GET MORE AUDIENCE CAUSE SHE BROKE INTO FLIM AND BRANDY AND MONICA WAS NO WHERE NEAR TO BE FIND YEA THERE WHERE PEOPLE LIKE AALIYAH MORE THEN BUT SHE DIED LIKE IN 2001 SO PEOPLE LIKED HER B4 SHE DIED
*sigh* let Bey be great
I don’t like this posting. I was there from the very beginning of Aaliyah’s career and I saw her grow from Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number to Rock Da Boat! She was a dynamic artist and the music she created with Missy and Timbaland is timeless.
I however think people are missing the point. There would have always been a Beyonce because she was groomed from an early age to be a performer. Matt Knowles always set Beyonce up as the center of attention of Destiny’s Child and probably always had plans for her to go solo.
Aaliyah had her own lane (think Janet Jackson 2.0 if you will) but lets be honest about a few things. She was not the best live singer in the world. It wasn’t until the Aaliyah album she came into her own on the stage. She wasn’t a spectacular actress (neither is Beyonce). She was definitely a great dancer but that also really improved on the live forum with last album. This may sound harsh but it is true, people are glorifying the legacy that is Aaliyah. Aaliyah was not a household name and she was just beginning to garner crossover appeal before her untimely death. Aaliyah was very popular but there was something missing like headling her on national or world tour that was needed to solidify her rising status.
Would Aaliyah still be popular today? That’s hard to say because the sound Timberland crafter for her, he gave to Justin TImberlake, Nelly Furtado, and Gwen Stefani. Plus the female R&B game was becoming overcrowded, people stopped buying cds, artist that catered to younger generations was more of a commodity, and I’m not sure if Aaliyah would have made a purely pop album work.
I miss Aaliyah, she really did bring something different to the table. However I am a realist at the same time and I am not going to sit here and pretend like she was this messiah when she had a lot of growing to do. I will say the legacy she forged is undeniable and she did great things while she was here, but unfortunately (not the big of fan of Beyonce), she was not a force to stop Beyonce.
I MEAN I GET WHAT U SAYING OF COURSE SHE WASNT A HOUSEHOLD NAME BUT SHE WAS A URBAN HOUSEHOLD NAME YEAH SHE MIGHT NOT BUT GOOD IN HER LIVE PERFORMANCE BUT AT THE SAME TO TIME U CANT SAY SHE DOESNT SOUND LIKE THE RECORDS CAUSE SHE DOES I THINK SHE WAS JUST A LAID BACK KIND OF PERSON NEVER TRY TO OVER DO IT, AND THE THING HER BEING POPULAR TODAY YEA SHE WOULD BE CAUSE HOW DO WE KNOW IF TIMBALAND WOULD WORK WITH JUSTIN AND NELLY, GWEN WHEN AALIYAH WAS ALIVE AND PLUS AALIYAH WAS WORKING WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON HER LAST ALBUM SO WE DNT KNOW PEOPLE BRING PAST INTO FUTURE ESPECIALLY WHEN A PERSON ISNT HERE TO DO MORE OF WHAT SHES DONE THATS NOT FAIR HOW DO WE KNOW BEYONCE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE WE JUST DNT KNOW
IT’S FUNNY THAT THIS TOPIC CAME UP, BECAUSE I’VE MENTIONED IN THE PAST THAT BECAUSE AALIYAH DIED, THE DOOR WAS LEFT WIDE OPEN FOR ARTISTS LIKE BEYONCE TO GET THE LEVEL OF SUCCESS THAT SHE HAS. AALIYAH HAD IT ALL, CLASS, STYLE, CHARISMA, PERSONALITY, BEAUTY, WELL-ROUNDED TALENT AND SHE WAS APPROACHABLE, RELATABLE AND WELL-LIKED.
SHE WAS A GREAT ACTRESS AND HAD SHE SURVIVED, I BELIEVE WHOLE-HEARTEDLY THAT SHE TOO WOULD HAVE LANDED OSCARS, VOGUE AND ROLLING STONE COVERS. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH TANK ON THIS ONE!
I have always thought that Aaliyah was well on her way to winning an Oscar. She was a superb actress.
Her personality alone would have kept her on top.
To compare the two is SUPER STUPID…IT’s LIKE APPLES AND ORANGES…Both are super Talented…But i’ll say this… It was something about AAliyah that was Just cool as hell…like, it wasnt Forced, it was organic…SHe had her own lane and it just felt effortless. The music she put out was timeless, her last album touched on issues that were wayyyyy ahead of its time.. Really, just listen to the lyrical content. I cant stress how Special she was…Because I cant compare her to anyone in the industry now because everyone seems to be like Puppets.. Stop Making Everything a Vs thing. Because were talking about two Veryy Different Artist that do/did VERYYY different things. in closing, the Beauty in the music industry is that you have variety, you can be TeamBrandy, Team Beyonce, Team Mary, Team Riri…You dont have to choose because they all do different things.. Yall waste yall energy tryna compare.. JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC, DAMN! (MY OPINION)
…it’s sad more people don’t view it the way you do. There’s more than enough room in the industry that there really shouldn’t have to be comparisons, or competitions. Especially when (as you said) they all do different things and have different styles. I don’t understand it.
I completely, and totally agree with both statements! Aaliyah would be slaying ALL these hoes!
IDK
Relax people Bey and Aaliyah would have both dominate this past decade if Baby Girl was still here. You can have two superstars in one era. Check the 80s was filled with them Janet and Whitney are both icons. I agree with Ginuwine and Tank
AMEN TANK!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP Aaliyah we miss you so much, music anit the same without cha so we have just had to settled ….. DROPS MIC
oh hellllll no…This nigga is smokin somthing…
Beyonce an actress….lmao
The only artists I see who would have struggles or would probably not exist are Keri & Ciara, especially Keri. She would have stayed the mediocre songwriter she is. Bey would have been fine. Aaliyah couldnt even phase Brandy and Monica. Please people.
U really said it like it was and i totally agree!!
NO SHE WASNT A MEDIOCRE SINGER, BEYONCE WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE IN DESTINY’S CHILD OR BE DEAD LIKE AALIYAH WHO KNOWS AND AALIYAH PHASE BRANDY AND MONICA IN 2000 AND 2001 WHERE ARE THEY NOW NO WHERE MONICA RELEASED A CD WHAT LAST YEAR SHE ONLY RELEASED TWO SINGLES BUT NOTHING ELSE HAPPEN AND BRANDY’S ALBUM HUMAN DIDNT DO NOTHING SO WHAT ARE U SAYING U JUST CANT JUDGE HOW AALIYAH WOULD HAD PROGRESS
Dont get me wrong… Aaliyah was great, but I dont think that she would have been the international star that Bey is today. Aaliyah was very urban, and catered more too “our” community. I see her maybe being on the same platform of Latoya or maybe…. Fantasia… maybe. But she and Bey are not even close. Plus, its unfortunate but she got a lot of her fans after her death… sorry.
HOW U GOING TO SAY SHE MIGHT NOT HAVE A CARRER LIKE BEYONCE AS TODAY. SHE DIED LIKE 10 YEARS AGO, HOW DO WE KNOW THAT U GUYS ARE THINKING IN THE MOMENT IN WHICH THE PAST WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN AND HOW CAN WE JUDGE TO SAY WHATS IN THE FUTURE IN 2001 WE DIDNT KNOW AALIYAH WAS GOING TO DIE SHOOT BEYONCE AND THE REST OF THE MEMBERS COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE PLANE WE JUST DONT KNOW WHAT AALIYAH COULD HAVE DONE BUT WE KNEW SHE WAS GETTING BIG CAUSE ALL THE WORK SHE DONE B4 SHE DIED
I actually agree..Aaliyah and Beyonce have didn’t singing and performing styles, but I do believe she would have had a really big thriving career such as Beyonce. And also please don’t speak badly about these ladies, Aaliyah is no longer with us, and Beyonce is the the best black entertainer that we have! Just Stop hatin, and give credit where credit is do!
I am still a HUGE Aaliyah fan and will always be, but to say that she and Beyonce would be neck and neck I don’t think so. Aaliyah was talented, but she was never a better singer or performer than Beyonce. I think Beyonce has her beat hands down on both of those. Beyonce is not a good actress IMO, but Aaliyah was not a great one either. She was OK. Let’s be REAL
Thank you
BEYONCE WASNT ALL THAT GREAT WHEN SHE FIRST CAME OUT EITHER LIVE, HOW U GOING TO SAY BEYONCE IS A BETTER SINGER AND PERFORMER THAN AALIYAH IN WHICH SHE ISNT, AALIYAH ONLY LIVED 5 WEEKS AFTER HER LAST ALBUM WAS RELEASED WE DNT KNOW HOW SHE WOULD PERFORM LIVE NOW AALIYAH WAS A GREAT ACTRESS IN ONLY TWO MOVIES HOLLYWOOD LOVED HER SHE WAS GETTING SCRIPTS B4 ROMEO MUST DIE BUT SHE WASNT READY TO BE IN MOVIES YET AND ON THE OTHER HAND BEYONCE ISNT A GOOD ACTRESS EVERYONE SAYS THAT
This topic should be deleted, honestly. Pure foolywang. Smh.
What’s with this topic tho? Aaliyah is dead, are we gonna start comparing James Dean and Matt Damon? What’s the point???
I agree with Tank and Ginuwine.Aaliyah had her own style and she was a great singer.I’m a big fan of Aaliyah still to this day. Even though she is not here today her music will still live on. With Artist like ciara that are trying to too much to be like her. It’s cool to be inspired but you have to have your own style and that what makes artist today unique.
Just because someone is dead doesn’t make them exempt from reality. Just months and really weeks before her death her album sales were low. So to now say she would blow them out of the water is a bit ridicules. You have no way of proving that now.
I have to say that Aaliyah was a better actress than Beyonce. But neither one of them were Oscar Worthy.
Agreed
Who’s to say where she would be in her carer if she were alive. No one can say for sure. No offense, but IN MY OPINION Beyonce is a better vocalist. A better comparison would be between her and Ciara.
Well, I was the individual who interviewed Tank (andGinuwine the next day), and I must say that I believe this:
If Aaliyah were still alive, she would have crossed over and would’ve become more of an actress, while only doing music for the love of it and perahps when she was asked to do it on a soundtrack for a movie that she was perhaps starring in. I believe that she would’ve been so much more successful as an actress and might’ve even crossed over into directing.
As far as Beyonce is concerned, I believe that the two would’ve perhaps done a collaboration song together, but I honestly believe that regardless of any circumstance, Beyonce would be exactly where she is today. It’s what was destined for her. What’s meant for someone is meant for them, and there is no denying it.
With that being said, both were and still are, amazing artists in their own rights.
I agree a 100%
I feel you on this statement but to play the devil’s advocate a little…. Beyonce’s destiny is where it is because of the space that was vacant that Aaliyah left when she past away so suddenly and so early in her career. I mean think about what i just said. “the space that was void or vacant” was available. Had that space been taken up I honestly do not believe that destiny’s child would have broken up and beyonce would not have tried to become a solo artist so quickly. At the time Britney Spears was competing with Ms. Aaliyah and I remember the week after or so after she passed Britney Spears was on an MTV awards show with an albino snake doing the same moves that Aaliyah was doing in her video with a snake! that goes to show you how awesome this young lady was and it feels like everyone was trying to get her spot when she past away. Tank was correct there would be no comparison to her because she had a sound and a look and her dancing moves were futuristic almost. To me she sort of brought out the best in everyone around her. The producers, the choreographers, the writers, the makeup artist the hairstylist… everyone… Aaliyah was a muse of all muses…. just my opinion not knocking anyone else…..RIP Aaliyah
AAAALLLLL IMMA SAY IS THIS! ITS AMAZING HOW FOLKS WITH NO OR MEDIOCRE CAREERS CAN PREDICT WHO WOULDA BEEN HOT BUT AREN’T A HOT TICKET THEMSELVES… #IMJUSTSAYIN I LOVE ALL THESE ARTIST BUT I FEEL AALIYAH WOULD HAVE BEEN CIARA BY NOW AND THINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME FOR AAILYAH AS THEY ARE FOR CICI AS WE SPEAK….. MISS YOU AALIYAH!!!
