As far as music goes, little has been heard from Mashonda, the ex-wife of producer Swizz Beatz. Mostly all we’ve heard about is controversy, but it seems as though Mashonda has begun work on a sophomore studio album, as well as working on the VH1 reality TV show, Love & Hip Hop.
She is leading off the new project with the first single, “Juicy Fruit,” produced by The Buchanans.

Yeah i think ppl under-rate some musician’s talent especially when they are linked to others in the industry but this definitely proves she just as good as any other singer out in the industry these days. I am a fan of much of her older singles and now i’ll be a fan of this!

smh… you are so correct. I blame the producer and engineer for this one. Producers are supposed to bring life to the material and provide guidance through the record… These “immature minded” wanna be producers out now don’t have a clue as to how to produce and artist. Actually there is no difference between this version and the original version recorded by the group Mtume’ in the early 80s. She sounds alright singing it, but I’ll settle for the original — google it or youtube it.

How the hell can you say, “Yeah, I produced this track.” When you actually just ripped the exact instrumental. To be honest, a little auto-tune on some of them sharp vocals would’ve warranted a production credit.

Such a beautiful woman and I am proud to see her pick herself up and get back to work. However, the song is not a strong single, more so of the fact that she’s been away for so long! She has a beautiful voice, but mid song she sang a lil to hard. But you know what, I wont judge her based on this track. I just hope that she come out with something more exciting. She has it in her and I wish her sooo much luck! So happy to see her working again!

Let me say what the whole siyuation is Mashonda and Swizz were married, they were unhappy, they separated, he then became interested in Alicia, Mashonda tried to get him back, didn’t work out. I’ve always liked Mashonda as an artist. Her debut album “January Joy” was never released in the states but it leaked back in like 2006 and I thought it was impressive for a debut. I will definitely be eager to see what she offers this time around.
Funnily enough I listened to the original version by Mtume just a few days ago. I didn’t know what to expect when I saw the title of the track on this website. It never occurred to me that it was the same song until the first beat dropped. I felt crazy because yes Mashonda can sing, but I really wish that she would have had an entirely different song altogether. Something fresh and new because she can blow and I just don’t think that after all these years her lead off song should have been a remake and it didn’t need a producer. I could have hooked her up in the studio for free.

I seriously doubt Mashonda is putting out a second album. She probably just did this track for fun. A few days ago she was on the breakfast club morning show and said that she has no desire to pursue a career in music because it would require her all which she is not willing to give. She said being a mom is more important to her and her son is her #1 priority.

Wow she did an outstanding job with this remake. Her vocals are solid and keeps the integrity of the original, I likes. Some of the comments on here are wild lol. If she puts too much of herself in the song some will say “this doesn’t sound like the original, she’s doing too much”. If an artist chooses to keep the integrity some will say “this sounds just like the original nothing was added”. Sometimes that’s the point!!! Bottom line is, it’s a remake and that in itself means it should sound like the original. It’s totally up to the artist whether they want to add twists and turns (or not). In my professional opinion I feel Mashonda did a hell of a job. I enjoyed it for what it is because we all know the girl isn’t trying to make a career off remakes geez lol.

Youtube the original y’all… there really is no comparison. And how about we institute a blanket ban on sampling this beat? How many times can one song be sampled before it’s officially ridiculous? In this beat’s case, 7 samples/remakes ago.
