The body of North Carolina teen Phylicia Barnes was discovered about 35 miles from Baltimore on Wednesday, where she went missing late December. She and an unidentified male were pulled from the Susquehanna River, although no connection is yet known between the two.
According to reports, Conowingo Dam workers spotted her body floating in the water around 7:30 Wednesday morning. A few hours later, while investigators were still in the area, the second body was found floating a few miles south of the dam. Maryland State Police soon hope to have preliminary results from an autopsy.
A Facebook page, Pray for Phylicia Barnes, was created shortly after police announced the discovery. Phylicia’s friends and family had raised over $35,000 in reward money for information leading to her safe return. Her family declined to comment on the identification of the body.
In a previous interview when asked what she would say to the person responsible for the abduction, Phylicia’s mother, Janice Sallis, said: “God is gonna get you. It would be easier for you to turn yourself in and let the law enforcement deal with you because if God has to deal with you, the law enforcement punishment is going to match up so if you discretely just let her go, we can deal with everything else after. But let…her…go.
Although her case didn’t receive as much attention as other missing teens, most notably Natalee Holloway, her mother said in January, “My daughter is not the only child that’s missing. Other children need their time, too. I appreciate all that has been done for her and us thus far, and it’s quality, not quantity, that’s important to me.”

My heart goes out to her family and I hope they catch the person who is responsible for this

R.I.P
This is soo sad to hear things like this. I live in NC, and knowing this could been my one year old daughter it would make me crazy
THIS IS REALLY SAD
So sad. R.I.P, I really hope they find out what happened.
Oh, My Heart Just Sanked…Reading This Story. To Ms. Sallis, My Heart Goes Out To You and Your Family!
To The Person Responsible, I HOPE YOU ROT IN ETERNAL HELL!
I am deeply taken back by this story, and I wish the family nothing but comfort while going through this ordeal. I would like to see in the near future, African-American teens/children/women as well as other minorities get the same media attention when they go missing. I am over constant reminders of Natalie Holloway and others who get all of the public attention, donations and news coverage, and when our own goes missing, you’re lucky to even read about it in the paper. This needs to stop, justice needs to be for all!
Where the hell you live where you are “over constant reminders of Natalie Holloway” lol? I don’t hear shit about her in DC nor have I in years excluding the whole court thing last year. I had to look up who she was! C’mon now! I agree about your point but no need to exaggerate lol.
I am in shock. I saw her name Trend on Twitter. I assume she was a white girl since national media is not quick to report on missing black women. BLACK men and women are valuable part of this society too.
May she rest in peace
Of course the media wouldn’t. Its mostly white. Why would they. It’s
up to us to push the story forward.
Lord please be with this family and take this lovely young lady into your arms and give her eternal peace and light. Let the one who did this not be at peace until he confesses.
We have to remember that she got more attention than most others. Black or white. More importantly is the fact that no human deserves to be taken from their loved ones and murdered. What a shame! God bless her.
In one washington post article deena barnes states that meeting phyicia was like finding her twin. WTF. She’s was a teenager and you’!re a 27 year old. She needed protection
and didn’t get it. That side of the family should be so ashamed.
This is so sad, The family will be in my prayer.
I agree. I really do believe that devine intervention allowed her
body to float to a location were it would
be spotted. Examining the body will provide much
needed info to nab the bastard(s) that did this.
@steve
I love you, but
divine intervention would be to find her body BEFORE the murder and the body filling up with so much water, that it would natrally float up.
..
Wow. U luv me. Im speechless. Any
way. Sometimes bodies are never recovered. And there was no
evidence that the bodies were ever wayed down. And god steps
in when its right for him, not for us. HELLO!
God did nothing. Human Beings found her. I give them the praise.
And tInkertot….u better not be some.fruit cake or something
god bless her family
Beautiful girl, damn shame, things like this just ruin the whole day, of coarse i still can’t even begin to imagine what the family must be going through, i just pray they find peace, it makes you thankfull for life, daily i complain about stupid stuff, but then i read something like this, and i feel like a complete fool, but anyway off of me, i just pray for this beautiful girl
my prayers are with her family.
I live in Baltimore and remember when this story first broke. Everyone assumed she just ran away or wanted to be free (met some guy and thought it was love)because she came from NC to the city. As time passed we were hopeful but knew the reality. It’s just a sad story of life cut short for no reason but the truth will get exposed soon enough and people will be put on blast!!!!!!!!!!!!
My heart is so aching right now over this. Beautiful young lady. Just so hurt.
@ PMB4784 I dont know why people would think that. … All of NC is not so country as everybody thinks… people are so ignorant example Charlotte is the same size as Baltimore..either way a life has been taken and its very sad..
Charlotte may be the same size but bmore is dangerous
Im thinking the same…for ppl to assume this young lady ran away from NC to Baltimore just to be in a big city is foolish. Not only is Baltimore not an ideal city to run away to, but Charlotte & Atlanta are large cities closer to her reach. Anyway, regardless of the ignorance of the living, someone has been wrongfully murdered & the truth behind this killing must be revealed!
RIP Phylicia Barnes
the person or person’s whom done this will be caught.
