    canadian eh?

Im not into politics in any serious way, i know generally whats going on. And i can see why common would be criticized for speaking at the whitehouse with some of his lyrics and views definitely not making the Bush crowd happy. BUT! this is AWESOME! im canadian but its like woah to see hip hop / soul / black / intelligent / informed / well-spoken / talented forces in the whitehouse! Barrack has definitely brokent he mould with this and i think that as long as he does not become a hypocrite himself, then this is the dawn of a new era.

Well made point, Canadian eh? I am not into politics either unless I hear something meaningful or I am passionate about. It is great to see various individuals a part of media/music/etc representing different aspects of life: age, cultures, communities, etc.

Oh, they’re black. I didn’t know that. So that’s why all of Fox News is in a tizzy.

Well, plus Common’s words struck the Republican party ears when they heard of Common’s lyrics -> “Why they messing with Saddam? / burn a Bush cos’ for peace he push no button / killing over oil and grease / no weapons of destruction,”…<- Real Talk, whether, people know what's going on, or living in the dark and holding on to every word the News spews at people (like a large sum of the American Public)

Jill Scott’s last poem was a must! I wonder how many non-blacks were intimated by the language, confidence, and sexuality that exuded from her? Jill is such a beautiful artist and truly personifies a regal QUEEN in her artistry…”Queen-beast”. Amazing…I am ready for her album.

Furthermore, in true Common fashion, he spoke the truth of the streets, the ghetto, and the often times forgotten youth in a way that Common only could. Common brings something to Hip-Hop that is missing….”compassion for thy brother and thy sister.” Im so glad that the guest of this function got to experience Jill Scott and Common for the brilliant minds they are.

    Thanks Angel for this post!

my shero and my hero, yes!!!! Figure they would get flack for being invited, but wouldn’t it make more sense for the hate if they were invited when Bush was in office?…Obviously we all know that Barack stands for change, so there you have it

Its such as you read my mind! You seem to grasp a lot about this, like you wrote the ebook in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few p.c. to pressure the message home a little bit, but instead of that, that is excellent blog. A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
