Singer/actress Jennifer Hudson covers the latest issue of JET Magazine where she admits that she would ‘love’ to play Aretha in a biopic about her life. She also spoke about her highly anticipated new movie about the life of Winnie Mandela, the ex-wife of former South African president, Nelson Mandela. Peep some snippets below:
On Playing Aretha in a movie:

On her upcoming movie, Winnie:
To step into such huge shoes as Winnie Mandela and tell her story, her journey and the contributions that she gave to the world, to us was an amazing experience.
On Losing Weight for the Winnie role:
When I arrived in South Africa they [the film's producers] said, ‘Wow, you’re pretty thin.’ And I said, ‘This is what you told me to do.’

I dont want her to play Aretha. Neither Fantasia. Can they have actual casting and research for another real beautiful talented sister out there with real ressemblance to play Aretha? I mean Fantasia is already playing Mahalia and Jennifer as much as I love her, I want somebody new!
Also, btw, her album and single are mad flopping but nobody says nothing about that right? but she is supposed to be THE voice of the industry. It also speaks volumes on the quality of the charts. SMH

I rather Fantasia Play Aretha or someone new, Jennifer will always remind me of dream girl and she wouldn’t pull it off it something about her that is not real, I agree she is more puppet like now. It just like something not good had taken her over and beside I think she in the click. Fantasia always give honor to Aretha when ever she in concerts. I wouldn’t pay dime to see it if she get the role and will not pay a dime to she her play Winnie. When she sing that song and the words said if their was no heaven in the background the eye appear on Idol that when I knew it, something isn’t right. I think the song is call imagine. But hope the bless for her and that she is do what is right.

I am an African American man and I love me some thick black women! But I think she lost too much. I don’t think she is ugly but I was more attracted to her when she was bigger and she just confirmed that she lost weight for the Winnie Mandela movie role?? WTF. Some women and men look better with meat on their bones!
Jhud got the haters showing their true colors. Greatness in one always seem to bring the worst in their haters. Jhud is amazing and awesome on all levels. People draw to her because she is most authentic and can be counted on. She delivers in major ways through and through. One of the most honest and caring young artist in the business. Haters and haters alike Jhud talent speaks for itself. One of the top three great singers in R&B. The best fit voice and vocal wise to play Aretha Franklin on big screen period. Like Jhud are not she has made the biggest impack in the business this year so far.
Love JHud she will be a great Aretha Franklin… hands down…
People need to know this, but Jennifer Hudson is on a whole different level than Fantasia. Jhud is at the top of her game, and Fantasia is still somewhere in the lower middle trying to find herself. Growth and Maturity in any business is what carries you through. Tasia was out there some years before Jen. She should have made better choices with her everything. Jennifer Hudson is right up there with the Beyonce’s and A. Key’s. Like it are not she is a super star!!!
