Today, pop starlet Rihanna premiered her brand new video for “Man Down” on BET’s 106th & Park. The single was lifted from Rihanna’s latest LP, Loud, which is in stores now. “Man Down” is one of my favorite songs off of her, “Loud” CD. And, I agree with you in the sense that most videos today don’t match the lyrics in a song. I love that the storyline was in harmony with the lyrics. I also like how she went back to her island roots on this song as well as the video.

Wow! I did not see that twist at the end! I thought this was going to be about a woman scorned from a bad relationship, but that ending was so serious. It really does play out like a movie.
As for the song, THIS IS Rihanna’s lane. She needs to stop playing and just make a whole dancehall influenced album. She can go back to pop, but she NEEDS to make an entire album like this. Just like J.Lo and Christina Aguilera made entire Spanish albums (which did well by the way), Rihanna needs to switch it up and do an entire dancehall album. She could be like a female Sean Paul, and she has a large enough fanbase that she would probably still do very well.

I like Rihanna, but I’m tired of this subject matter with her. I don’t like the song, video is ok. The 5th single should have been “Cheers,” not playing with drama from 2 years ago. Loud would have been an almost perfect album if it wasn’t for this song, she needs to leave this issue alone, should have been put to bed after Love the way you Lie. It’s not as dark as that other song from the “other” album, but it is still basically the same subject. Obviously this won’t been a mainstream single.
