Behind every human being there’s a story. Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson embarked on a little journey to learn more about his family’s history and how it shaped who he is today. Although the 35 year-old rapper was adopted his grandmother, he proceeded his journey to learn more about his family’s roots. The first stop on 50′s journey was to roll through the South (Edgefield, South Carolina) where his grandparents migrated from back in the 50s. Check out 50 Cent: The Origin of Me above as 50 digs deep into his roots. Kudos to Mr. Jackson for taking the time to learn more about his history!

Awesome! Loved it. Couldn’t believe how far he was able to go back. Slavery ripped so many families apart and its effects are still lingering today!
50 Cent is beyond whack now. Where is the new music 50? you spent so much time and resources trying to destroy Rick Ross and look where he’s at now musically. You have to distract yourself with BS. Are you a rapper or what?
Dezzy why is 50 wack for wanting to know more about his family history. I’ve never been a huge 50 Cent fan. From the way I see it, rappers come a dime a dozen and it’s all about who’s hot right now. There are several rappers who came before 50 Cent & Rick Ross, but they’ve had their run, just as Rick Ross will also have his run. Yes 50 is not as popular as he once was in the rap game, but is it very geniune of him to let the world see how much he has progressed as a man first. If 50 never puts out another rap album, he has nothing he needs to prove, because he has the money, cars, homes, etc. Beyond that, he was very smart with his money. He also a very successful actor. His list of films are growing just has his music did. This was a very interesting documentary. Just like his music may have inspired others, this documentary will certainly inspire others to find out who they are and where they came from. What he is showing you, me, and others is that he is more than his music, his movies, his fame. The man is today, whether you may see it not, is doing much more for rap music than his actual music.
So learning about your history is “BS” these days? Wow… you should change your name to “Ditzy” instead. HOE HAVE A SEAT!
Since when has researching family lineage been B.S.? Anyway, I’m proud that 50 researched his family and documented on t.v, maybe that will inspire others to do the same. While slavery has impacted our ability to trace our roots as African-Americans, all is not lost. With today’s genetic testing, scientist are able to trace our roots back to specific tribes in Africa, I wish his documentary would have taken his journey a step further and showed that their is more to our history than slavery. We were once Kings and Queens that built nations, maybe they didn’t have enough time or maybe the powers that be would like for the youth to believe that our history start with slavery….either way it was a good start.
dezzy mad 50 not a fag him him, 50 clearly still makes music check american idol he was on last week performing, where was ross oh yea not on the 1# in the English speaking world , damn hater going to hate . props to 50 for doing this before you can go anywhere you gotta know where you come from
*there* and *started* -note to self must proof read…
I loved watching this! Its nice to see that Mr. Jackson is deeper than the materialistic b.s. that he raps about. Nice to see him interacting with his family, and folks in the community. It reminds me of my family from Virginia. Thanls CL for posting this!
Um… being adopted by your grandparents isn’t a big thing. Plenty of people are raised by their grandparents, whether it’s a legal guardian situation or not…
…and the way Christine worded this article was misleading.
“Although the 35 year-old rapper was adopted (by) his grandmother, he proceeded his journey to learn more about his family’s roots.”
His grandparents are still a part of his bloodline, so it’s not odd for him to trace his family roots back through them…
