Direct TV Launches Newest African-American Network

Dish Network is set to launch Punch TV, a new african-american television network. The 90 percent African American owned company has been conceived “to be a vehicle to address the unmet entertainment needs of the country’s 41+ million African Americans”. What will set this network apart from the likes of BET and TVOne?

“In contrast” Mr. Collins continues, “Punch TV Network” targets its audiences based upon psychographics and not merely demographics. As a family-based network, we offer programming for all ages. However, from a psychographic perspective, we offer programming that is designed to quench African American’s thirst for innovative programming.” [Read more]

The network has reached out to other major cable providers like Comcast. You can check out www.punchtv.net to peep what they have in store. So far, Sheryl Lee Ralph has been added to contribute to the network. Thoughts?

Ok black women. I don’t want to hear anyone mention that black women aren’t portrayed in films. This post has only received four comments. No excuses. Black women put these issues on themselves.

Finally, two shows with my brothas and sistas in them that aren’t selling ass, the women aren’t throwing glasses in each other’s faces and sleeping with each other’s men.

What a departure from all of this reality show smut. I can’t wait for these two shows just like I can’t wait for Hawthorne.

    I’ll soooooo be watching.

DEFINITELY will be checking out kerry Washington & ‘Scandal’. punchTV sounds like it will be a great thing; anything is better than that embarrassment of a network, BET. Hopefully they’ll stick with it, because BET started out with the same intentions. but they do need to change that logo LOL.

    A must See

Scandal seems promising. Kerry Washington is a much better actress than Halle. Hell, I think Gabrielle Union is a better actress than Halle.

Hopefully this show will have as much success as Grey’s Anatomy. Looking foward to watching it and definitely will support it.

The name of the network leaves me with a bit of uncertainty. I’ll have to look into how they came about choosing that name. However, I love that blacks have come together to establish their own network. I only seen two educational shows: one was about animals, the other a documentary series. Hopefully, there will be of these types of programs added to the network. Also, I’m hoping non-celebrities have a chance to host, create, and produce programs.

My main problem with channels like TVOne and BET is they only cater to ONE type of A.A. = the urban citizen. Some of us don’t give a shit about celebrities, R&B/rap, fashion aka trying to be ghettofab and etc. Some of us simply want “white” entertainment BUT with people who looks like us. Throw in some educational programs (especially relating to OUR history) and real stories about regular everyday middle-class folk (because we all aren’t in the PJs) and I’ll be a happy camper.

Its like you learn my mind! You appear to grasp a lot approximately this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I believe that you just can do with a few % to power the message house a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
