Tonight, superstar Beyoncé was honored as Billboard’s Artist of the Millennium at this year’s Billboard Awards. A video montage for the 29-year-old was played before her first ever televised performance of her latest single, “Run the World (Girls).” The video featured the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, U2 front man Bono, Stevie Wonder, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, The Dream, sister Solange, and of course, Tina and Mathew Knowles.
This week has been quite a whirlwind when it came to the promotional blitz. Her video has achieved over 13 million views within the first three days, in promotion for her upcoming fourth studio album, 4, which is slated to hit stores June 28th.
After her performance, Beyoncé accepted the award from her mother, and nephew, Daniel “Julez” Smith. She thanked her family, as well as former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who were both present. In addition, she also thanked the original members, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson. She also gave a heartfelt mention of her husband, Jay-Z.:
“I’d also like to thank my bestfriend. And I don’t wanna put you on the spot, ’cause I know they’re probably putting the camera in your face right now. But I love me some Jay-Z.”
It’s one thing to be influenced by someone but it’s a whole nother thing when you straight jack somebody. Bey is my girl fo life but she was also the biggest money making entertainer in the world last year. That being said, pay your team to create something new and innovative for you or present this as a MJ tribute. Saying it in an interview is not enough. She did a damn good job but the song is still whack as hell. A superstar needs to record the best songs possible and should be a trendsetter.

Her new single can hardly be called a song, just loads of shouting and talking really loudly – I hope the rest of her album is better. I love Beyonce, but not this song. The performance was great but just not the song to be quite honest. I want her to release something more like Scared of Lonely, or Upgrade U

Uh, Hello. She did not sing and dance at the same time in this performance. She talked, moved sporadically and then tried to sing but ran out of breath because she was dancing too hard. Beyonce never really sings and dances at the same time. She sings and then she dances. There are times when she sings and dances at the same time in spurts, but you idiots are acting like she sings every note while she’s engaged in vigorous dancing. That’s utter bullshit. And just because there isn’t a female at her level popularity who can entertain like she can doesn’t meant that there is not one out there. I mean damn, look at Lady Gaga. She’s about the only one giving Beyonce a run for her money as an entertainer.

Bee did her thing on the Billboard Awards. She definitely deserved the acknowledgement. There is no female artist out right now that has put in the work like she has, maybe Lady Gaga, but other than that, no one deserves the accolades more than her. I give credit where credit is due.

My mom said it a long time ago when her second album came out that she reminds her of Tina Turner. And you guys ca say what you want, but part of you guys have to ageee. I think thats why my mom loves Beyonce, cause she is kind of like Tina. Because everytime Tina hit the stage she gave you a SHOW. Beyonce wearing that outfit, she off her legs like Tina use to do. But no matter what I will always support her can’t wait for the album.

I think (and this is my opinion) she’s an overatted, sell-out, one trick pony. All her songs sound the same. She’s alwaysing dancing too hard w/too little clothes on and too many backup dancers that always wear the same outfit. I’m ready for real musicians to make a comeback. Leave that bubblegum pop in the suburbs where it belongs.

Now that we know that she basically ripped-off Lorella Cuccarini should we continue to call the performance epic and revolutionary or should we call it what it essentially was – a f**cking rip-off. This just proves that Beyonce’s thievery has gone to a new level. I have lost the little respect I had for her as an artist. You don’t do shit like that.

I think she is on that level that very few people reach as a pop star. But Michael Jackson? You don’t even have to be born in the 70′s or 80′s to know how palpable his influence was and still is. He is the biggest superstar there has ever been in the world. Beyonce still hasn’t surpassed Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Tina… need I continue. She’s good. Better than all these current stars, but saying she’s a beast like MJ is beyond delusional.
At the end of the day we here to say whether or not this women’s performance was any good and whether you like her personally and support her or not the bottom line is she killed it, even with the God awful song and beat. She is an artist and we were all born to do something in this world and for her she is living out her destiny. This is what god put her on earth to do and she is doing it. SO GIVE HER THE DAMN PROPS SHE IS OWED ALREADY AND STOP HATING!!!
