Host Kevin Hart, Lifetime Achievement award recipient Patti LaBelle, singer/dancer Chris Brown and actors Will & Jada Smith were among the celebrities that attended the BET Awards ’11 held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 26) in Los Angeles, California.
The awards left a lot to be desired, especially with the Tiffany Greene incident and a bunch of lackluster performances. Either way, check out some performance and audience photos below and also make sure to check out the arrival photos here.

Patti had the best performance her tribute was also very good it was sometimes when marsha fell a lil flat but a good try overall I honestly think jen hudson wouldve KILT the song an I didnt understand j biebs being there wonder how much bet paid him
Best performances of the night: Patti Labelle tribute, Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé. I gotta give it to Beyoncé who, contrary to other performers, had four songs performed live before “End Of Time” but she still delivered, the outfit was hot, the vocals were on point but choreo was INSANE!
Kelly Rowland learned from Beyoncé and pre-recorded her vocals and lip-synched hence why her performance wasnt as vocally tired as the one in 2007. Still she managed at one point to forget to talk, her mic was away and I still heard her say “sing it y’all”. A lil fail. Other than that, it was very Janet Jackson-ish “I Get So Lonely” but overall I give Kelly a A, I enjoyed it a lot! Now if only her fans would put their energy into celebrating her instead of putting her against Beyoncé, it would be great for her shine. No one can take away your shine, work hard and ppl will recognize it.
Is there any performance where Trey Songz have clothes on? He almost phucked up Kelly’s moment, he wasnt necessary there.
How can Chris Brown’s “Look At Me” win Video Of The Year and the “Runaway” and “Pretty Girl Rock” videos are left empty handed? Really BET? How can Rihanna win Best R&B went 80% of her album is dance, pop? Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson or Marsha deserved that! The policy is about sales I guess! SMH!
Alicia Keys is one overrated performer and with the years passing by, the more ppl see it! She doesnt blow away anybody! Rick Ross you are not sexy, put that shirt back on.
Nicki Minaj (cant dress), the Smith kids & Diddy Dirty Money, nobody is surprised yall won, very predictable of the BET agenda, but Im happy for yall, congrats.

They wanted to give a new image to Steve Harvey with all the drama he had lately so they had to give him a humanitarian awards I guess! Congrats!

I’ve noticed excepting Beyoncé and maybe Alicia, there arent enough black SUPERSTARS in the community, Im not saying celebs, Im talking about SUPERSTARS, the supreme performers with worldwide appeal, success and respect! Years ago, you had Tina, Diana, Stevie, Whitney, MJ, Janet, Aretha you know what Im saying they were the greatest of their time but now looking at the BET awards it’s like a bunch of amateurs, how sad, and people still have so much hatred against Beyoncé while she is the only one who is representing us overseas and pushing the limits and inspire everyone to work and perform harder.
Congrats Jill for the performance, Mary Mary and Marsha for their awards! Of course Taraji was about to win since that oscar nomination, they should call it the Taraji P Henson award, bitch got this award since 2009? I also knew Serena would win her award, as she always does but Im not mad lol. All that means we need more talented black people, we need the black excellence and diversity.

^^These black award shows rely on her (Beyonce) faaaarrrr too heavily! The accolades they dispurse have become redundant / predictable (Kanye, JayZ, Beyonce, Alicia Keys). And risk becoming a novelty.
Their criteria for acknowledgement has got to shift to a HYBRID of pop reception as well as grassroots artistry. I can’t imagine that viewer ratings aren’t a disappointment.
This economy has really hurt the black community and it’s evident in our entertainment.

I expected more from Chris. I wish he kept dancing on top of the box while Busta was rapping & WTF was with that ugly suit in the beginning? He should have brought out SWV too bc that would have been cute! Also, while his dancers had glow in the dark masks, he should have had that crew that won the first ABDC be his backup since they wear masks & had his shoes be glow in the dark bc it was hard to place him or find him during the dance sequence.
I am highly disappointed that Kelly did not demand that:
1. She do the whole song
2. Or at least do the whole REMIX version
3. She be properly introduced by the host
4. Not perform second to & as a supporting act to Trey Songz
5. For her hat NOT to be glued to her head
6. Did not wear all black
7. Wore something glittery & sexier
8. Had her hair & make up done up by the gods.
9. Gave face
10. Had better choreography & a cute routine
Kelly really let me down tonight and she was not memorable. I am beginning to believe she is just passive and not a natural born leader. She belongs in the background and in Beyonce’s shadow. WTF I still can’t get over her Darth Vader look. All she needed was a saber, f’n loser!!!!!! I lost all hope in Kelly being the superstar that she fully can be but she clearly has low self-esteem. I enjoyed the show overall…There a few things I could have lived without. Cee-Lo..WTF! Whoever Shirley Ceasars stylist is needs to be beat down cause the fairy godmother look was a fail. Beyonce was not performing for BET…she was at the Glastonbury festival performing for those fans, so having her performance played via video doesn’t not count as a BET award performance. I actually liked her look and performance..it wasn’t epic, but good. I thought CBs performance could have had a little more energy…it was aight. I thought Kevin Hart’s lil ass was funny though. DJ Kahled was on the stage bout 10 times last night..he getting his grizzy on. Now that it’s over I can back to not watcing BET….on on a SN: What is Free eating? That girl right there..she thicker than a McDonald’s milk shake and that ass.
Kelly Rowland- That’s my girl! She worked the hell out of that stage like a pro! In the beginning she may or may have used pre-recorded vocals, but towards the end of the performance, she was singing live and sounded wonderful. Her moves were so smooth, sexy, classy, and just perfection. She had that Janet Jackson “I Get So Lonely” vibe. Finally, she’s out of Bey’s shadow!!!
Chris Brown had the best performance of the night. I liked how he did a medley of songs. Busta did an amazing job and was full of energy! Chris really broke it down and showed why he belongs in this industry. His dancing is so natural, innovative, and lively.
Beyonce- I am not a fan whatsoever, but I believe that this year, she’s been busting out some amazing moves and giving effortless performances. That “End of Time” performance was crazy. In the past her performances have been lukewarm or just blah, but these performances she’s been giving lately show you why she’s on top as a performer.
Alicia- She has a beautiful and classic performance. Her voice actually sounded great and Bruno Mars added a nice touch.
Willow and Jaden- GTFOT with that award you parents bought for you!
Rick Ross looks like a fat girbil but I glad he had a shirt on. I know I missed most of the awards.

She did a great show but didnt sing live, these are called pre recorded vocals for performances, beyoncé always do them and people are confused if it is live or not, but she still killed it, you can see the difference from 2007 which was live and this one, there is one part where the mic is away and she still talks to the audience.

Was a good show, despite it’s “pun-intended” mishaps. Kinda preferred last year’s a little more,but still good. Maybe they should go back to envelops instead of Ipads for nominee ballots from now on.
Kevin Hart really saved the BET Awards show. BET needs to start all over. I give them a C-. A few good performances. Kelly Rowland, Anita Baker & Mary J, Beyonce, Patti Labelle, Ledisi, Ambrosia,and Alicia Keys. This award show caters more to hip-hop fans, and hip hop artist. Love the Braxton sisters, they all have beautiful voices.
Overall BET Awards show gets a C-. They need to bring back Free, and do a complete overhaul of the show. Kevin Hart saved the show, I loved Hollywood Husbands.

Was a good show despite the “pun-intended” mishaps. I think last year’s show was a bit classier, but I enjoyed it. Side note: they should probably go back to viewing the winners via envelopes from now on.

To put in short, there’s no competitive exposure of musicians @ BET. So whoever is out there now, is out there. Entertainment today has been going down the long dusty road.
These media formats only play like 10 different artists. There’s plenty more popular artists out there that could have performed and received acknowledgement, but BET doesnt support them anyway so they left with the slimmest of pickings. Erykah, Nas & Damien, Big Boi, etc. dropped great music this past year and were nowhere to be seen…Black music is a JOKE now!
I remember riding around town and if anyone had a system blaring anything popular, it would be some hiphop or r&b….no matter the color of the patron. Not now.

Bet is very disappointing to me. Too much profanity and why were some artist invited to sing provokative songs on teh show. The cursing was a turn off for me and thta’s exactly what I did, tune out and did not watch the remainder of the show. Embarrassed that some of the kids in the audience had to hear all that cursing because they did not have the bleeps, well the bleep man was late of some of the bleeps. Some of the winners were obvious and some non deserving. Like Chris Brown, I am rooting for him but he did not deserve the top spot, think Bruno Mars deserved that win over Chris. Also, who were the ridiculous barely known folk Niki Minaj was paired with, as if any of them ould really win over her. I mean they did not even try to put real competition in there with her..Cymphonique..Diamond…Really. BET please ty harder next year to help decrease the ghetto and profanity, you are doing better, but try harder next year, maybe I will watch the entire show.
