Three months after losing her great aunt during the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Garcelle Beauvais was served with yet another shock. Her talent agent husband (Mike Nilon) of 9 years had been having an affair with another woman in Chicago for the last 5 years. Now that her divorce has been finalized, the 44 year-old actress opened up to JET magazine and shared how she was able to get through these two life-rocking events:
On how losing her family member inspired her:
I did a short film, called Eyes to See, a lot of charity and raising money.My family in Miami is doing everything: sending coats, sending supplies. A lot of people have stepped up for Haiti. In that, there is so much hope.
On her feelings when she discover her husband cheating:
I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. Not because I am special, but because I have such high regard for people, especially the people in my ife. When I love, I love deeply. When I trust, I trust deeply. I wasn’t this wife that was in complete denial. I think he presented himself a certain way that allowed me to have full faith in him.On moving forward and future outlook:
I’m an optimistic person by nature…I cannot believe that this has happened to me and there isn’t something better coming my way. Life takes you where you need to go. There’s gotta be hope otherwise there’s no reason to get up the next morning.

Just the fact that it took her 5 years to realize that this caveman was “cheating” on her shows that she, like most Westernized females, was severely inattentive and derelict in her duties as a consort or “wife”. She felt “betrayed” not by her “husband” but by the image he carried as a white male. She believed that she had done what many black women fantasize about doing, which is landing the “golden goose”, an affluent white male. Due to their Disney princess programming from childhood, most black women believe that white males are somehow “different” and will conduct themselves as “Prince Charmings”. This is why when their relations with caucasian males does not bear fruit, they have extreme psychological breakdowns and will very rarely mention that a relationship with a white male ended sourly unless prompted. Had this been a black man that “cheated” on her, she would still have hope because within her feeble mind their would still reside the hopes of snagging a white male. Now that the white male has “betrayed” her, her only recourses (in order to maintain her vain feminist “self-esteem) is the “cougar” whoredom archetype or l*sbianism (which are recourses of “empowerment” in the minds of Westernized females). Based on this magazine cover, she is choosing the whore archetype. If he works and he has to travel, is expected to entertain clients, or if he’s in a career that working long hours is expected and getting up the corp ladder can only be done by working 60-80 hours a week as a salaried employee, you have no clue if he’s cheating, there’s no over time, there’s always work related expenses that he’ll cover out of pocket, it’s not like dating a teacher.
