Check out the brand new single from Beyoncé, “Best Thing I Never Had.” The track is the official second single, lifted from her forthcoming fourth studio album, 4, which is slated to hit stores June 28th in the United States.
The track was written by Babyface, Beyonce, J. Que Smith and Tony Dixon, and was produced by Symbolyc One (responsible for Kanye West’s “Power.”). Fans initially though she would release the powerful ballad “1+1,” however it was announced on Pittsburgh’s Kiss 96.1 that “Best Thing I Never Had” would impact radio today, June 1st.

The song sounds too “whitish” for me. I know a lot of her fan base is white, so I applaud her team’s marketing skills, but I personally would not rock this joint in my car. I say that to say that I don’t HATE it, I just don’t think it would make me want to buy her album. This reminds me of Irreplaceable just a bit. Out of the RTW,1+1, and the TBINH…I’m actually liking TBINH more. The lyrics, vocals, and arrangements don’t feel as forced. I feel like Beyonce thinks that she has to sing “hard” and grunt and growl to be taken serious as vocalist and it does not take all that to make a ballad or any song. I give this a 8.5/10

I LOVE “End of Time!” My favorite so far from the album. I, too, wish it would have been a single but, honestly, I feel like they went with the “safer” “Best Thing I Never Had” because it’s a bit more radio friendly as you definitely know. I also agree with you about her “belting so hard” on the song. I do wish that she would’ve pulled back a bit but I do love this song regardless.

Regardless of anything out right now, I wannna point out that Beyoncé makes great music, she gives vocals and substance, beautiful melodies and harmonies. This era for her is very different, she is not afraid, nothing is safe, she is taking risks, she releases ballads when people have uptempos, she is receiving only positive notes from professional critics, she might have the video of the year and arguably the best performance since MJ in 1983 with RTW. 1+1 was a promo single to make ppl order the album and was called a classic by pitchfork media which is huge. Right now, Im loving everything so we’ll see, hopefully radio will support her song this time around. She def got some more bangers there because this was Concrete’s least fav track and the rest received very good and better critics. Im thankful to have Bey in the industry.

It’s definitely not as powerful as “1+1″. Beyonce has an extremely pop driven, radio friendly, mid-tempo record every album (“Irreplaceable”,”If I Were A Boy”) and like every one it will have to grow on me. I would of preferred “1+1″, as a single but would it really do well on radio? Probably not, and Beyonce needs another Billboard Hot 100 #1, because she hasn’t had one since “Single Ladies”, if I’m not mistaken.

So so far, we have heard 4 songs from this album so far, and it took the label finally 4 tries to officially get a song on radio. Guess they had to just pick one now, since the album drops this month. This is very unusual for her promo. I don’t know, maybe it does have to do with her new management, I don’t know, cause normally it don’t take this long for her to get a buzz for an album. So I guess End of Time was axed second single(which would have been great for the summer), and 1+1(which almost everybody loved), I just don’t get it-is this Beyonce making a comeback or Ashanti? My take on the song is that it is ok. Nice lyrics, and impressive writers she equipped for the song. But Beyonce no longer has to prove to world that she can sing by screeching at the top of her lungs on every song, just sing from your heart and let it flow like on your first (and best) album.

This is a beautiful song. I think this is the oerfect song to release for the album. This has more world wide appeal. I keep telling you guys that you will never get another DIL or Bday….IASF was her most noteworthy CD worldwide. She is continuing on her success with that album. The vocal arrangement of this song is perfect. Babyface did a great job and Im happy she chose this as her second single. R&B radio will play 1+1.
