Grammy nominated soul singer/songwriter, model and actress Syleena Johnson is in the, studio working on a new CD entitled Chapter V: Underrated. Check out the brand new single, “A Boss.”
In addition to giving us a new album, Syleena is also shooting a reality show pilot titled R&B Housewives with Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert of Brownstone, Keke Wyatt, Angie Stone, Kelly Price, Tweet and Lelee Lyons of SWV. The show is co-produced by Faith Evans and Nicci Gilbert of Brownstone, while being executive produced by James DuBose.

I think people are saying Le’Che’s version is better because her voice is much more commercial. Syleena actually delivered the song pretty much the same (including the adlibs and runs). Syleena’s timbre is much more raw. I think that has to do with why she’s found it hard to find success. It’s marketing though. She really needs to do some Adele/Amy Winehouse type stuff. Smh that I actually only have them as references on the type of music I think she should be doing. tisk tisk tisk…

I agree, from the opening beats I knew it was not the Syleena I know. Songs like Guess What, and I’m Your Woman. Syleena I will buy your album but I hope this is one of the few commerical songs you have on your CD. Not feeln the pictures either.
This song is hot!!!!! Sounds like the woman who did the demo is on background vocals. Like someone else said….Syleena has the pipes to make this song raw. The other woman’s voice sounds good but its too light and not distintive like Syleena Johnson. And the lyrics aren’t stupid or about being independent. She’s simply saying she wants a man on her level…that she’s not looking to use a man. She even says he doesn’t have to be perfect and he’s worth waiting for. I remember people complaining about Syleena Johnson always singing songs about bad men and male bashing or how she needed to switch up her style. Plus Syleena Johnson isn’t foreign to making uptempo songs. She did Tonight I’m Gonna Let Go and Hypnotic…and she’s worked with rappers, so her singing A Boss isn’t a stretch at all. With a title like Underrated she better come out hard and swinging. Love her and Tweet so I’m make sure I catch the reality show as well.
First to SWEETGABROWN, you sound quite bitter. Actually, Syleena picked this song, no label picked it and it’s actually a dope track and song. You must be dumb or deaf because her runs in this song, sing circles around Rihanna. And, vocally she’s blowing, listen again. Syleena doesnt have to sell out to make good music. This song is a commercial hit…this song is also an R&B hit. You must be a fool to think people don’t want to win and try different things.
