After releasing a rather graphic music video for her latest single, “Man Down”, the Parents Television Council are not at all pleased with the visual depiction of Rihanna‘s song, saying the video showed a “cold, calculated execution of murder”, according to TMZ:
The council is outraged that Rihanna would suggest that gunning down a rapist in a crowded train station is a proper form of justice. “If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass …”
Oop! The PTC is even more upset that the pop star tweeted to her fans saying that her video has “a very strong underlying message 4 girls like me.” Dang. In all honesty, I was surprised how graphic the video was. Wonder if Rihanna & co. thought it would receive this type of backlash? Thoughts?

I think the video was brilliant. I’m actually happy that the video gave her a reason to shoot a “Man Down”, because the song just seemed like she shot them due to cheating, or a bad relationship (maybe reference to Chris?).

I didnt like the plot of the video, I thought it would have been tasteful to find a valid reason for the whole situation. A girl who acts hoe-ish in the club with one guy she doesnt know gets raped. It was dumb to me and I felt like it was designed to get her video attention. I wanted a better story if it was about rape. Notice how when these parents dissed her she starting tweeted about how girls are innocent and strong and bla bla bla. We all know she doenst care about it and always tries to redeem herself because her management tells her so! She is not a role model at all. Agreed. I am not a Rihanna fan, but I love this video. It was well done, and portrays what someone goes through mentally after such an ordeal. I also love the fact that she went out alone, dressed sexy, enjoyed the initial attention from the guy and walked home alone in the dark. All things that girls DO, and although naive, is by no means to BLAME for what happens when they get raped. @YALL DUMB needs to think before speaking because dancing with someone in a club (or ‘acting hoe-ish’ as you say) does not mean you want sex with them, and rape is about POWER, they guy in the video couldn’t take the rejection and wanted to show he could have her if he wanted.

Rihanna has no social responsibility. Parents do. Yes, children are influenced by what they see so it is the parent’s responsibility to censor what they watch. The excuse of not being around kids 24/7 is just that, an excuse. There are too many resources to censor what children watch. If a child does happen to catch the video, it is up to us as parents to use it as a teaching moment. It is not real. A music video is the same as a fictional book. I happen to think it is a great video. It touches on lots of issues.

I am not promoting violence in any manner and I believe in my heart this is nothing more than her way of playing out a thought. We all have bad thoughts, I know I do..but my heart won’t allow some of my thoughts go into action. Rape can alter a person’s life and to some ppl..not just women the only way to stop the pain is to put an end to the culprit. How is this any different from the violence that we see DAILY on television, in movies, and video games? Television and all programs on it are fabrications. Is Rihanna promoting murder?
