‘ROUND THE WAY: RIHANNA’S VIDEO CAUSES OUTRAGE / SHAQ RETIRING / COSBY CAST MEMBER PASSES & MORE

After releasing a rather graphic music video for her latest single, “Man Down”, the Parents Television Council are not at all pleased with the visual depiction of Rihanna‘s song, saying the video showed a “cold, calculated execution of murder”, according to TMZ:

The council is outraged that Rihanna would suggest that gunning down a rapist in a crowded train station is a proper form of justice. “If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass …”

Oop! The PTC is even more upset that the pop star tweeted to her fans saying that her video has “a very strong underlying message 4 girls like me.” Dang. In all honesty, I was surprised how graphic the video was. Wonder if Rihanna & co. thought it would receive this type of backlash? Thoughts?

      *what women go through

If wiz khalifa can smoke all the weed he wants in the video and have 5 year old singing about rolling up (dont matter what the video said we know what what he was trying to say) then rihanna can kill someone in her video

I personally was against the song from day one, let alone, releasing it as a single was stupid to me. It still seems like the song not specifically, but relatively refers back to Feb09. Loud was supposed to be a completely different departure from the dark Rated R, and it already had the melodrama Love The Way You Lie on there, This song should have been replaced with “Who’s That Chick.” So I’m surprised at the backlash, 5th single should have “Cheers.”

    4. BENJAMIN

Meant to say I’m “not” surprised by the backlash.

bottom line> song is okay but the video is trash
beyonce & rihanna fans need to take this rivalry somewhere else. y’all are annoying as fcuk

The video was made to do what is going on right now on this website, get ppl talking. Just as everyone else in this world Rihanna has been through things and people we know reality is UGLY so why portray a fairytale in a video that’s for a song that’s edgy. It makes sense honestly and to me parents need to just watch what their children are watching, playing and doing. I mean dang its a video, she not a politician. Rihanna is her own person and she’s been edgy. She’s going to keep pushing the limits because people talk about it nd that’s what makes it that much fun plus honestly I think theirs a purpose of why she did this storyline for the video and the meaning of the song. Stop reading so deep and if you a parent just communicate with your kids. This is only entertainment…..get over it.

I am by no means a Rhianna fan but I do think this is just a way to pick on her. There is not too many videos out today that doesn’t have something in it that isn’t all the way positive. The video is a real life situation; it happens in movies all the time. Rhianna is not doing something that hasn’t already been done.

Honestly, I didn’t see anything wrong with the video, most ppl if they could would take that exact revenge…not to say that it’s right, but that’s how ppl will feel after being raped.

Secondly, I am not big Rihanna fan and I actually think she’s violent in real life, but at the same time, you have to also listen to the lyrics.

“If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop.” ummmmmmm… #logicalfallacy… make it completely equal: that means he gets raped by the woman first, and then kills her… i wish he would make a video like that. Rih isnt getting a pass. Her story’s purpose is empower young women and develop a conversation about a sensitive topic. it worked to some extent, but the conversation about whether it is appropriate for TV is totally overshadowing it. annoying!

Rhianna is Miss Controversy but it’s working for her… no comments on the 6 other stories on this ‘Round the Way’ portion

I think rihanna need to chill wit all the videos period. Every time she come out wit a new one she git critisized for it. She is critisized for good reasons too. I mean all she sings about is sex or in this case killing someone because they raped her but because she was shaking her body and tempting the man with her body and then she turns him away. Hey i am not saying that rape is acceptable cuz it is not in any case but i think this girl needs to send a better message to the young girls out there. the way she dresses and acts in her videos is the reasons why men go after girls like that. For heaven’s sake rihanna, put some clothes on and sing about something worth listening to. nobody i repeat nobody cares about your sex life. yea we all know you had it hard but try doing something productive like teaching young girls how to stay away from situations you got yourself into.

    12. See these...

LOL @ the outrage of parents. The same parents that buy their children violent video games, take them to see movies such as Transformers and the Hangover. Saw a lot of children under the age of 17 with their parents watching these movies. Instead of being negative – how about watch the video with your child and use it as a discussion of what and what not to do. Or just monitor what your child is listening to and watching. Just my two cents.

Thank You!!!I feel like if people really sat down with their kids instead of allowing the media an shit like that corrupt their mind, they wont think its “OK” to do whats done in these videos….its pure entertainment. And besides, how many episode of SVU have been aired where a rapist was killed by the victim? They just want to correlate this video to her & Chris Brown’s past situation…he didn’t rape her, so why associate the two? This society focuses on the WRONG shit.

    13. This is the whack shit

Kids shouldn’t b watching vids anyway, they should b doin their damn homework. If parent were raising their children right, then they kids would never see the video, or if they saw it a smart parent would talk to their children about right and wrong, and in all honesty I would want the ni&&a dead too.

    14. Mzbigego03

It amaze me how the PTC is going after Rhi Rhi when they should be going after the videos that subjectify women. What about the videos that show women being disrespected by dozen of rappers everyday…the PTC is a big joke!!

    15. bored

The video is terrible and the stupid words she said only add oil to the flame. She is either using overly sexual content or the wrong content and this is one of them. Listen to the song and then look at the video it dont go… Two fold… She comes off as her usual self then she wants payback. This was just another one of her Rated R attempts. She will do anything to sale and stay in the spotlight this time she wasted her money on this video cause it’s coming out of her flat but.. Send her home!!

hahahha dont freakin wine bout riri..

what has me extremely annoyed as a woman and a mother of a daughter is all this uproar not one comment to the rape but only to the murder.
This shows how women are viewed, rape a woman oops, but if she strikes out from that rape, the horror!

    19. Weekend_Love

Damn Rihanna getting bad luck from everywhere lol, i feel sorry for her

    20. Chabeli

Dude the video is made .. she cant take it back i personally think the video was great . I think that none of our opinions really matter and if you dont like rihanna then dont opinionate or change the goddamn channel or radio when you hear her . I dont judge her . There’s a lot of people that look up to her . I personally dont , i do like some of her songs though , and the girl’s got some kind of talent . Oh , and if you think she’s sending a bad message to children … idk why you even have your kids watching it . PARENTAL CONTROL people !

    21. herewegoagain

People, It’s a music video and more importantly, It’s entertainment. No one complains about the messages being portrayed in movies or tv shows but when an artists sings about something they dont agree with or makes a music video with violence there’s an uproar. Get over it, the music video was scripted and acted. It was make believe. Let’s call halle berry inappropriate for killing someone who was black mailing her in her role in the movie, “perfect stranger’ *cricket cricket* exactly…no one cares. Take it for what it was, an entertaining music video sheeeeesh

    22. Cynthia

What’s the big deal? The ragamuffin threw himself at her, he forced himself on her. It turned into an unfortunate incident….scared for her life, she shoots him. Lady Gaga torched a dude, Beyawnce poisoned a dude in their videos…what’s the drama?!

    23. Cynthia

It’s a video that tells a story that happens to many women…I consider it realistic art. I had the opportunity to off my attacker, but his day will come, Riri live on!!
