VIDEO: MISSY ELLIOTT ON VH1′S ‘BEHIND THE MUSIC’

Missy Elliott was featured on the newest episode of VH1′s Behind the Music on Wednesday. The multi-platinum singer/rapper/producer shared intimate stories about her far from easy childhood, how she made her way into the music industry and recalled the day singer Aaliyah passed away.

Other entertainers who she has collaborated throughout her career with popped up in the episode from Timbaland to Snoop Dogg to Mary J. Blige. Great inspiring story about sticking with your guts and holding on to your originality. Can we talk about how Missy Elliott’s make-up is ALWAYS on point though?! Yasss!

Great Behind the Music segment of her life. What a beautiful women with a great talent. Missy I wish you great health, and a long successful career.

Missy totally changed the music game in the 90′s. Whitney,Mariah & Janet calling her within a month is proof of how innovative she was & is. She is an icon. The music industry needs U back Missy.

U proved U don’t have to be lite skin, pretty, & skinny to be a successful black woman in the rough hip hop industry.

No mention of “Static” passing in the documentary. He was a big part of her to..

  2. Jerry

This was the best behind the music yet & Missy is and always has been amazing…this special only added to my respect for her. Now, about that new album….

  9. DaughterOfLight

Missy’s come such a long way, from all she went through,& though she’s still dealing with her health issues & her past, she still remains humble, driven, & positive! That’s a true testament of faith. I love.. love.. Missy! (Love shout out to the babygirl Aaliyah)

  10. missy fan

    She’s amazin..i enjoyed that clip

  11. Spcll

I love her, I remember when I used to rock her beats every summer on my drop top, I’m glad to see her back so she can teach some folks some things!

  12. Sasamina

I forgot how fukkin talented Missy was until I saw this episode…she’s HELLA talented and oh so original…she looked really pretty when she was skinnier. I liked her better that way, actually…hope she doesn’t blow up to 300 pounds again though. Come back Missy, we DO need you. Need some REAL fukkin talent around these here parts.

  13. ZZZZ

That was soo good!! I liked the behind the scenes clip of “da bassment” crew. I was so into Jodeci (music in general) that I would read the cassette and CD notes from the albums and I totally remember reading Missy and Timbaland’s names in the liner notes. Then when they blew up I was like wow, they are going to do big things. DeVante is crazy as hell. He didn’t know what he had and he lost all that talent- writers, singers, producers. What a dummy. Seeing Aaliyah still breaks my heart to this day. It was sad to hear Missy say she kept calling her phone expecting her to pick up. :0(

  14. 510510

I watched it last night. I had no idea Missy had went through all that. She’s a strong and blessed woman. I hope she gets better soon..I miss her music a lot <3

  20. tj

Luvz Misdemeanor, a very gifted woman that made good for herself and mom from a rotten start. God Bless her!

  21. idomind

Missy knows she only shed a tear bc she can’t strap it on to Aaliyah anymore.

    • jessica

Can’t you say anything logical and respectful??? A person has passed away and which can never come back, and you have to make a stupid comment like that- you should be ashamed of yourself!!! Anyways- I like watching the Behind the Music because it gives alot of insight at these artists that we listened while growing up, especially if your into producing music or a DJ. I didn’t know Tweet was part of Devante Swing- The Basement. Also did anyone see Static Major- R.I.P. another best producer before his time also. I’m rooting for the Superfriends to come back and make a hot new record, and also Missy. Very insightful Behind The Music.

    • idomind

What is not logical or obvious that Missy is a hardcore bu.tch les.bian? Aaliyah was a bisexual who.re and made her way around that circle. Don’t be upset at me, get mad/ashamed at yourself for worshiping these crazy slu.tbag .homosexuals

    • jessica

You speak bad about the dead??? Ur really disgusting!! If you someone you love passes away, and talk shit about them, people shouldn’t feel sorry for your ass!!! You need Jesus in your life!!! Your a very sad little person behind the computer with ur dumb ass friend JUDAH…. SHAMEFUL!!!!

    • idomind

I swear, my comments keep getting deleted. However, why is Judah my friend? I don’t know him from Adam. AND what does that have to do with my post or the fact that Missy is a stone cold lez and Aaliyah was a w(hore)? You are confusing bad with the truth. Stop being an idiot for a second. Did you love Aaliyah? You don’t even know these heathens yet you are obsessed with them. Dead or alive, a hom-o-sexual is a hom-o-sexual and a w(hore) is a w(hore). Please, take Missy’s strap out your mouth or better yet keep it in ur mouth and keep quiet.

    • jessica

DID YOU KNOW AALIYAH??? YOU SHUT UR DAMN MOUTH!!!! Maybe ur insecure because ur the whore!!! You rather talk some crap behind the computer to make yourself look good, honey ur a sad sad little person who don’t love yourself, I suggest you need to see a doctor to cure yourself before you judge people. VERY VERY PATHETIC AND SAD!!!! LMAO!!!

    • idomind

No, I did not know Aaliyah personally but I did know of her and certainly DO NOT love her. What I do know of her is that she was very interested and involved in the occult. She was molested several times as a child and she was as loose as a goose. Stop getting so mad and angry and seek counseling bc you are getting way to emotional over two celebrities who don’t even know you exist.

Yes, this show made me really miss Da Bassment Crew, Lil’ Mo, Nicole Wray (not shown in show) back in the 90′s. Glad Missy dared to be different and think outta the box when it came to the music industry! R.I.P Aaliyah and Static Major

  23. c'est la vie

No one has mentioned when her next album is released

  27. AplMacLady

    bye Nicki Minaj!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Indigo

This was a great BTM! It was very inspirational. I have mad respect for Missy. And they put her videos in the same category as Michael Jackson’s, and they should be there! How many artist can say the same?

  29. deelock

The best thing ive watched in a loooong time about an artist and one of my favourites at that! so insightful missy is one artist who could never be hated on for her success, her motivation to take her talent to the highest heights continues to climb :)

  30. JB

I just want to start off by saying that I’m a little taken aback by the struggles Missy had industry-wise with her image in the beginning of her solo career. I of course know that this kind of thing occurs it just never occurred to me. Never once did I find myself fixating or even caring about her size. All I know is that I was a fan as soon as I saw/heard her. She was so dynamic vivid creative and fun. I can remember my sister my cousins and myself being so excited when her video came on dancing around bopping to the beat singing It’s my window/I can’t stand the rain. Looking back over her journey I definitely shed some tears. Because Missy is still pretty young I forgot how much of an impact she made on music. I really appreciate VH1 taking this moment to show us how she got to where she is. It’s really awe-inspiring and inspirational. It made me realize just how proud of her I am.

  31. JEANNA

Missy has mad talent. Hurry up and come back so you can show these new female artist how it’s done.

  32. Nikki

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83
being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive
retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it
only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff,

(this comment is late but, ) I already had an immense amount of respect for Missy, her music, and her creativity / innovation in the entire music industry but now I can’t even put into words how I feel about her after watching this. It was an incredible story. She’s really a gift to the industry and the world.. I learned a lot about her from this. & RIP Aaliyah.

  36. lolaluvs2snack
