NEW MUSIC: TEAIRRA MARI – “COME BACK TO ME” (JANET COVER)

July 19th, 2011

♫ Come Back To Me (Cover) Teairra Mari

R&B singer Teairra Mari took a stab at singing the 1990 Janet Jackson classic hit, “Come Back To Me”. This is definitely a great cover of Janet’s song. What do you all think?

This makes me want to watch the original music video for Janet’s song. Shall we? Peep the throwback video after the jump!

It was good but sounded like a remake from her with no emotion. You can feel the emotion when Janet did it which is why you want to hear the original.

Exactly, why do people always come at Janets voice I think her voice may not be powerful but her voice is very angelic and soothing.

I can’t stand TERROR, she’s just another ghetto chick making music about money and sex and isn’t that great of a singer, but this sounds very nice. She needs to stop it with that “I’m grown and can show my body” image and make real music like this. Of course this is better than Janet’s, because Janet never could sing. All she ever does is whisper on the damn songs, like she did with this one.

ha not whisper….and terror in caps is too much. good laugh

hate much? just say you prefer her version over Janet’s, but saying that Janet could never sing is not right. We all know she’s not the Mariah’s or the Whitney’s or the Beyonce’s but she can hold a note.

I don’t think I could take it if everyone I like singed just like mariah. lol

If you say Janet couldn’t sing- your sadly mistaken, with your so called truth fully speaking motto- If Janet couldn’t sing- how come she had albums from 1982- 2008, had 35 #1 hits in the R&B and Pop Charts back in the 1980′s and 1990′s, then have other artists featuring her, won countless awards, from Soul Train, American Music Awards, MTV Music Awards, her Number One’s Tour has great reviews to the the point that the Prince of Monaco wanted her to perform, so before you talk your so called TRUTH, DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE TALKING SMACK, BECAUSE YOU WILL LOOK STUPID IN THE END!!! # FAIL!!! P.S. I THINK YOU NEED YOUR EARS CHECKED!!!

Back to the song- it’s alright, but not something I would put on my ipod.

      @jessica

the same way rihanna has hits. Hits doesn’t mean the person can sing, just that they have a good team behind em (ie writers, producers, engineers, technology)

I don’t think I’ve ever heard janet sing by herself. No backing tracks or instruments.

Good job! Ive always liked Teairra, its sad to see her career is not kicking off like it could. She came out with a banger and due to the fall of TheRoc she has never bounced back.

I hate when someone talks about the lack of someones singing talents they use Whitney or Mariah as an example. Hell! Janet wasn’t even an Ashanti but when she stayed in her lane her music was good and her vocals suited.
I like this cover, there’s not that much you can do with this song vocally before it would sound like it would be over sung.
I agree that Teairra isn’t that great a singer but could be more successful with toned down, less sexual and better material…. oh, and a good stylist

    Don't Be A Sheep!

Did this song really need a remake? Also, this version is awful, she’s struggling in the beginning. In the words of simon cowell… It sounds like a cheap karaoke rendition.
I hope this never makes it to the airwaves…

I like it but T needs more vocal lesson and she doesn’t have emotion in this song. T needs to change her whole look for real.

it started off really nice, I like the tempo, but then her voice fell flat, not a stan of either, just like good music and I like the remix on the instrumentals, if Teerriar or w/e her name is could pick up some of those weak tempos, it might be a good cover. If she decides to do a video, I just hope it isnt trashy and slutty.

I’m not feelin it. She should have kept the late 80′s feel to the song. It sounds like a demo, like it’s not finished.

Failed….another nobody recording a classic song and failing miserably. Hopefully this is the final nail in the coffin that is Terror bomb’s career.

Wow , has it really been twenty years since the Rhythm Nation CD. One thing that cannot be denied is Janet’s artistry and influence on popular music, many of today’s female artist live in the house that Janet constructed. Janet has never been a powerhouse vocalist and some have debated her ability to sing, however for me it’s not about the high notes, it’s about the ability to capture your audience through the intensity of your vocals and or performance. In this category Janet trumps. Her voice is small, sweet, emotional and angelic.
While listening to Janet coo on Come back to me, I realize that her low register is her greatest asset, their she sings with great vulnerability , in between her breathes, you can feel a woman singing from her soul, telling her story of a love lost. For instance, my undying love for you, won’t let me wait.” to the vocal melodic soulful ending, don’t want to let you, her harmonies are rich and her voice lays perfect against the soft tones of the instrument.

As for Teairra Mari, the greatest form of appreciation is duplication, however with that said. She needed to add something different to the formula, maybe a jazzier version with some great adlibs or a more colorful version, this song was a number one rhythm and blues cut and reached number two on the pop charts. Clearly, the new version does not have the same substance that original had. But a noble attempt, Janet is a very difficult artist to convey , she has a one of a kind voice, soft, sweet, emotional and soulful. I still remember hearing Let’s wait awhile for the first time. Janet is one of those artist that you hear on the radio and know immediately who she is.
