HOT or NOT: BEYONCE – “BEST THING I NEVER HAD (LIL’ JON & DJ KONTROL REMIX)”

August 19th, 2011

♫ Beyoncé – Best Thing I Never Had (Lil’ Jon & DJ Kontrol Remix)

Lil’ Jon remixes Beyoncé’s latest single, “Best Thing I Never Had” by tracking her original vocal with a sample of The Gap Band’s “Outstanding,” and a rap verse by Shawty Putt. The track comes from Bey’s latest album, 4, which has already been certified platinum and is in stores now.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Bey’s vocals & the sample go so well together cause when I saw Lil Jon’s name I thought OMG this is going to be bad, but I was so wrong. I really like it & I hope to see Beyonce perform it in the future as well.

What is this?!!! I don’t think the vocals and the sample are not seemless. It sounds like a remix done in the club…I guess hence DJ Kontrol. The music doesn’t match the tone or sentinent of the song. Very odd. Honestly, Bey can hush and just let the music play.

Meant to say I don’t think the vocals and the sample ARE seemless (i.e. work well together).

I think it’s b/c when Beyonce sings, she tends to follow the notes of the melody in the background, like if there is a high note, she hits a high note, or if there is a low, she goes low, if it’s rising then she riffs, etc. But I have to say that the remix is OK, mostly due to the sample used lol. She should’ve just done a real remix with this sample b/c it would’ve been a banger for the non-MTV crowd. But it’s OK as it is.

It’s ok, nothing spectacular. Good news is that the song is slowly climbing the charts-number 8R&B, 16 on Hot 100. Kinda late in the game, but hey, it’s something. Maybe if she quickly puts out End of Time, things will change, since that’s the standout track.

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad 2 64 GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic
Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will
never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also
sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Hereis the website we use to get it all from, HitPenny.c-o-m

Ehhh, the thing is, I could swap out the original track and directly sample The Gap Band and make this remix. Even when you sample, you want to hear it CHANGED a bit. So, I don’t hate it, but I’m not impressed either.

Actually, based on the poll results, looks like most people do like it. I like because that beat sounds good no matter what and you can hear her original vocals better over this track. Anyway, I guess you get to admire both the beat and the vocal performance.

Beyonce wants to be everything at once. I thought she was going for the pop sound/crown when this album first dropped. Now she’s scrambling around with an r&b remix. GTFOH Beyonce and sit down somewhere please. I am so tired of this overrated broad I don’t know what to do smh!!! And to have Lil John of all people? My only question is Why? Calling herself king and Jay Z comparing her to MJ, no one believes any of that sh*t beyonce, really! Let the accolades come to you on there own and stop trying to force them upon yourself.

Yea, not really a remix. Tired of the outstanding sample… especially when you lift the whole beat.

When I see the word “remix” I’m expecting something I’ve never heard, something different. Putting an old school beat, on a new song with a rap verse doesn’t equal hot. maybe I’m too old to appreciate this “remix”, but I’m sure the young folks will love it – they don’t seem to know too much about what good music truly is.

Yea I agree w/ WerQ What…..I think if she would have re-recording the song to go with the beat it would have been a banger. The tone needs to go with the beat, to me this is not a remix, just a beat change with a weak rap..JMO
