♫ Mya – Earthquake (ft. Trina)
The East Coast earthquake earlier this week caught many by surprise, but Mya took it as an opportunity to release a new track, “Earthquake” featuring Trina. The lively track was to be included on her latest album K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple), which was released in Japan earlier this year, but Mya says she pulled it following the earthquake that hit last spring and will include it on the U.S. version of the album:
“‘Earthquake’ is just a really fun song that crowds go wild for when I perform it live and when we tested it in the clubs. I pulled it from the Japanese release of my ‘K.I.S.S.’ album out of respect after the devastating earthquake last spring. When considering to release it on the U.S. version this fall, again it was a decision I went back and forth on, but ultimately, I think people will understand my decision to release the song, because at the end of the day I think the world is ready to have some fun, and take negative situations and reinvent them into something positive, that we can own, learn from and that bring us together.”
Umm…yeah…still not the best time to put out a song called Earthquake.

this is just awful :/ sad ’cause i’m really rooting for Mya but all her recent songs i’ve heard have been really bad.
she needs to find some new good producers like The-Dream or Darkchild or someone who can give her a nice song to get her back on the charts.

I wasn’t even about to listen, but glad I did… I kinda like it. I mean, it’s not like “giiiiiiiiiiirl, that’s my jam!”, but I can definitely see it being a hit in the club. A new excuse to have some of these chicks shakin, bouncin, dippin and some mo ish! lol!

Two talentless fish
I actually dig the song!!! I feel like she could have did a little bit more with the chorus, but the way she rides the beat, and the production is tight. On a different note, Mya is steadily becoming one of the chicks that people love to hate. If anyone else released this song, trust people would not be making moral claims or judgement calls about the appropriateness of the song. I respect her for clarifying the rationale behind releasing the song, but the haters are just using this as another reason to hate. Mya is a talented singer, a wonderful dancer, and she’s been in the game long enough where she deserves more respect than she’s given. The song is tight, and combined with a more radio-friendly (pop) single and hot video, this song can do damage. Stop hating folks, its bad for your health, your karma, and your complexion. #justsayn
I like it! If she would have released this ten years ago I would have called it a flop, but considering what tops the charts today, the simpler the lyrics, be higher the chart position. When all else fails, keep it simple and make it catchy.
Why can she just come out with a nice R&B type song? Why don’t she hook up with Trey Songz and do a collabo to do a hot track? Com’on now Mya.

I’m a really big Mya fan, but not too fund of the song. It has nothing to do w/the earthquake that just happened, it just doesn’t seem like her. But at the same time the things we are used to her doing wouldn’t make it these days w/these younger kids being the target audience.

This song would be complete awsomeness for the club!! I’d definitely shake what my mama gave me to this:) – I may even do a little atrip tease for my boo- lol!! It’s a fun song and I’m all about fun!!! What the world beeds is FUN AND LOVE!!! Also, I’m quite sure Mya has had quite a few r&b songs within yhe past couple of years. Most people just don’t know about them because they are all done overseas in Japan. YouTube Mess Up My Hair, I Love Me Some You, Almost Naked, Take it Back, Height of Love, and Tic Toc. She’s got some nice songs.
Mya is so damn “ghetto fabulous.” I don’t get her. She tries to act like she’s so classy in interviews, but then releases a bunch of ghetto songs and dresses like she’s shopping at Forever 21 and Burlington Coat Factory. Plus, she really can’t sing that well. She sounded nice back in the day, but she has a limited range and her tone is annoying. Trina sucks but she did this stupid song justice. It’s just time for her to sit down. Some of her singles did well in Japan, but the album flopped so hard, that it didn’t even make the official charts.
