August 11th, 2011

Zoe Saldana is covering magazines left and right! Check out all three covers as well as a snippet of her one-on-one interview with EBONY magazine after the jump…

ZOE SALDANA TALKS BEING BLACK IN HOLLYWOOD IN ‘EBONY’ MAG

The Avatar actress looks elegent on the cover of EBONY magazine‘s September 2011 issue. In the issue she discusses being “Black, Latina, & Fierce”, her upcoming action film, Columbiana and how she refuses to accept the hardships of being a black woman in Hollywood:

“When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs,” she says. “Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon. … We have a Black president right now, so why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?”

New wave Halle is back in full effect. Through I sometimes think her exoticness overshadows the fact that she is part black. I know I may catch flack for that, but hey, she still sexy.

I dunno, I think it is because she has such a great attitude and so much confidence. Maybe that is the exotic thing!

So what, black women or women who are part-black can’t be “exotic?” Is that what you’re implying because if so, that’s wack (and racist).

SHUT UP! You wouldn’t know exotic if it hit you in the face. Overshadows the fact that she’s black? STFU! YOUR IGNORANCE IS SHOWING.

judging by that stupid quote im not surprised that she is dating a white man…wtf does obama being in the white house have to do with black women getting acting roles in hollywood? bitch plz lets keep 100…jennifer lopez and halle berry are two of the biggest names out there and both of them put together cant act to save their lives…ask them about how many white men they’ve slept with to reach where they are and why they are husbandless even as their careers die out.

I see you’re the only one that actually took the time to read the article. She’s a beautiful woman and good actress, but I agree with your post. What does having a black president have to do with black women in hollywood? (Apples and oranges). She will definitely catch flack behind that statement.

I guess in her quote shes trying 2 say that If a BLACK man can be president(which is a very honorable role in this country) why should “hardships for black actresses” stop black women from accomplishing their dreams in the acting industry and pursuing their goals. and people shouldn’t let anything stop them from being successful…duhh lol

black women have been in this country 400 years + we have never let anything stop us in part because we raise our voices when something isn’t right, according to Zoe that’s complaining.

This doesn’t suprise me. The reason why you and gallery berry, paula patron, thandie newton,Laura london,Megan good are succesful cause all of you are biracial black women. The reason why Obama is the first black president is cause he is biracial. If he was dark skin and not mixed white America wouldn’t not have elected. The united states have always been intrigued by mulatto, biracial, mixed race people especially women. Hollywood consider light skin mixed race women as the ideal black women. If zoe didn’t tell people she was half Puerto rican/half domican. Nobody wouldn’t know. Her white husband or boyfriend just enhances her image

One question, have any African-American female actresses ever graced the cover of Latina Magazine? Wake up!

Angela, Beyonce has covered Latina magazine.

Ebony (and Essence) are NOT targeted at African-American, BUT BLACK women, which is why if you travel you will see Ebony (which I don’t personally read) and Essence is found all over Europe and Africa.

What is all this talk about race? Can’t we all just get along and accept people for who they are? I am a white woman who has been married to a black man for 16 years and we have a beautiful bi-racial 12 year old daughter princess. We were all so happy to see the election of the FIRST BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. People really need to stop fighting over him. White people want him to be white and black people want him to be black. WAKE UP WORLD HE IS BOTH. WHITE MOTHER BLACK FATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, technically Barack Obama is bi-racial, but HE has stated he is black-courtesy of his WHITE mother. Take the time to read his birth certificate if you ever see it on the news again like I did, she had him and it was his mother who put his race down as black. Thankyou.

    To bosslady,

Doesn’t Beyonce claim to have some Latin lineage? Again, let’s put Monique on the cover of Latina Magazine. In fact, Ebony was directed toward the AFrican-American Female community. Check it, I personally know.

I know people are wondering why she’s on the cover of Ebony, but the fact remains that she is a black woman. The question is – and correct me if I’m wrong – why has she never been on the cover of People Espanol? She is not crazy; she identifies herself as a black woman because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t have gotten some of her roles and this seems to be the first film (maybe second) that highlights her Latin heritage. Be that as it may, the the Black american community isn’t the only one with complexion issues – the Latin community is just as bad if not worse…
