NEW MUSIC: DAVID BANNER – “SWAG”

♫ David Banner – Swag

Mississippi MC David Banner drops quite a bit of knowledge (“It’s only right that I tell ‘em / don’t buy into everything these rappers is sellin’”) on his first release from his upcoming sixth album, titled The Make Believe Album.

With “Swag”, David Banner “[says] the shit they say [he] shouldn’t”, taking on those who disrespect God, white girls (namely the White Girl Mob) who use the N-word and other incidents that should infuriate the black community as we sit idly by. No word on a release date for The Make Believe Album, but you can purchase “Swag” on iTunes.

amen! this needs to be said!

  2. bvarney

im white and i will say the n word as long as its put in a rap song boo whooo to you

    • REALISH

Look B—– rap don’t give you permission to use the N word. H0e, you lucky we let you listen to our sh## since y’all the only dumb MFs that buy that wack s##t! U stupid a$$ racist h0e! You’re a spawn of ignorance.

    • laronteking

dude no one is saying you cant say it. its a free country but you cant expect to be white, say the n word and not be called a racist.

    • Selfish

I guess since rappers put selling dope, smoking weed, robbing someone, hacking up a baby mama and putting her in the trunk of the car in their songs and videos -Oh dont forget the Bitch word, faggot, pussy and any other curse word out there it is ok to use and probably even mimic their videos.
I pray you; please do show everyone how much of an idiot you are.

  3. Jae

Well, as much as I don’t want to hear a white girl say the N word let alone a black person saying it. I would also like to see someone come out and say how black girls shouldn’t be calling white girls crackers and peckerwoods or mexican girls bean dip but I hear it out black chicks mouth all day. Seems like a bigger picture needs to be looked at like to be screamin out stop being racist you while you are calling out someones ethinicity.

I think we as black people are more racist than most.

    • REALISH

Jae are you stupid? Do you hang around enough people? No one calls white girls anything but white girls. Other races use the N word frequently than most black people. We’re the most oppressed Jae… REALIZE YOUR SURROUNDINGS!! I’m sick of hearing other races use the-N word… It cringes my soul to hear it…

    • Indigo

Realish, ARE YOU STUPID? Either that or you’re 2 yrs old.. No one calls white girls anything but white girls?? Well, stupid, flat ass,hoe and wet dog must mean white in French. lol JAE is speaking truth. Black people DO say all sorts of things, but cry bloody murder when they hear Ni@@er; A word they will hear coming from a black WAY MORE than from a non black.

    • REALISH2

Because the thing is, black people are oppressed! Regardless of the fact that our bi-racial President is Black. We know how you white people really look at us. I look in your eyes and can see your deep rooted hate you acquired from birth. Black people can say what we want. We were robbed of our identities only to be left to think we’re nothing but a no good “n–ga!” And NO! White people do not have the right to publicly say “n–ga.” Your ancestors misused and abused the word for 100s of years and now it’s over. We know the satisfaction y’all get when y’all say ‘n–ga!’ We don’t trust y’all with that word.

  4. REALISH

All I can say is FINALLY and still practice the phrase “It’s never too late.” I hate to sit back and watch black folks ignorance. They’re so Ray Charles to things!
Hip-Hop mislead the s— out of my generation. I can vouch to that situation becuz those MFs almost hypnotized me (Thank GOD for common sense and knowledge). Believe it or not Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, etc have more influence over fatherless children than they think they do. I know these nig-as, I f- with them. If only y’all knew the conversations hood ni-gas have. It’s scary, mind-blowing, and all you want to do is blame their fathers… RAP ARTISTS… 4 real. If I hear you can buy a Ferrari by selling drugs; guess what I’m gon do; SELL DRUGS! If my mama didn’t raise me right… of course. Kanye and Jay-Z also will be condemned for trying to misguide Afro-American youths into believing there’s no GOD… Believe me Kanye their is a much bigger person than that guy you bought that expensive purse from.

    • Indigo

“If only y’all knew the conversations hood ni-gas have”

I know… I’m having one with one right now.

    • REALISH2

Look you comment stalking b—- know who the F- you’re talking too. This is the internet where using your Freedom of Speech goes a very long way… You’ve never had a conversation ever with a ‘Hood Ni–a…’ which is why your opinion doesn’t matter. I was blessed with the experience to be able to have conversations with intellectuals, hood rats, white collars, hood n–gas, flat booty white bit-hes, Skater boys, etc. I got both ends of the stick so I know what I’m talking about. You’re just trying to be funny and attack someone because somewhere along the lines I hurt your feelings or sadly you just don’t have friends… And I’m not up to being one. Regardless, like I said I’ve had multiple interactions with hood n-ggas and their mind-set are so far off from being legally productive that it’s scary. The way they think makes me feel sooo sorry for them. That’s all I was saying. So while you sit your miserable indiH0E ass online go find someone else to stalk and get some business. BTW. Just because I like to brag on myself I’ll add this. Born and raised in the HOOD with my mama and daddy… B.A. in Communications at the University of Chicago… Making well over a 100k year on a fiscal salary… been to 3 different countries… Live in a condo… Just married… And bout to have kid… Not bad 4 a “Hood Nigg@!”

relish let me say first that i DO SEE YOUR POINT. it is a very good and heartfelt point of view, BUT the approach depends on each Black American’s method of coping i use the word nigga on my white co-workers everyday. it freaks them out. their response is “but, i am not black” my retort is “so all black people are NIGGAS?” and they have to catch themselves. everyday i hear if (something is not brand spanking new)”that’s ghetto,” (when proper English is spiced up and grammar is manipulated)”stop acting black,” (I wear nice clothes that fit) ” you are am not dressing black.”
at some point in time our eyes are going to have to focus on every aspect of the word. EVERY. CHRIS ROCK set a precedent that a lot of non-black can understand; the difference between BLACKS and NIGGAs. if non-blacks dont know the difference they should see the difference in you, dont let that upset you ans steal your peace. if non-blacks want to be niggas dont let that upset you and steal your peace. The dynamics of this powerful word should be monitored at all time. So when the opportunity for discourses such as this arrive, the words is tamed by the fact that we are still watching it and aware of its movements. as it changes we (AS BLACK PEOPLE) will always be steps ahead of the word NIGGA and that is what brings me comfort.

  5. Oh Whatever

Nas said it right with his song “Be A N*gga Too”

  6. Denver Knight

Love this song!!!! Hope it gets major airplay.

  7. Shaun

The sad thing is that songs like this never get air play; they should, but don’t. I just hope he keeps making music that actually has a message young people need to hear, but I can alrady tell everyone won’t listen.

  8. idomind

This word along with n*gga should be eliminated from the mouths of blacks. If you are an adult, you should not be using the word swag thus no wonder the idiot David Banner saying it & making a song about it. This is the same dude that was on national tv throwing a b*tch fit about not being a role model or participating in “it takes a community to raise a child” bc he still wanted to release songs like “Like a Pimp” and feature big booty w(hores) in his videos.

    • Mutulu Kafele

maybe a change is upon us all

    • Loveitt

I don’t feel that way about “swag”. I lived in London, England for a bit and “swag” has always been apart of their vocabulary. Its just we (Americans) started using it and now some think its a new word made up by our young black kids/culture. I interned at L’Oreal and when we sent out gift bags they were calling them swag bags in 2000. But as my British ex would always say: “I speak English and you speak American baby”. He can be such a smart ass! LOL No argument just a point. Which also shows how much our kids vocabulary sux’s. They don’t know anything about art, music, fashion, history …etc if they didn’t see some famous person wearing it or talking about it. Which goes to show the power of celebrities and their influence on everybody. Cheers Loveitt

  9. MayneTayn

Yeah…swag is played out. But some of yall have white/hispanic friends that call you Nigga (er) and you go along with it. Me on the other hand, I let them know don’t use that around me. I don’t mind confrontation that leads to education.

  10. Ken

Everything he said in this song was TRUE! Although the song wasn’t hot, it is the realest cut i’ve heard in a minute.
Imma start out with the rap stars disrespecting God, that’s not cool at all. And i honestly don’t understand why everyone supports them. EX: Kanye & Jay Z.
And black people can’t get mad if white people say nigga anymore, because we all use it sooo much. Stop marketing the word if you don’t want to be called that.

    • ANGELYC_ARIES

You’re ignorant. I don’t use the n word at all, and grouping all Black people in your stupidity is ridiculous. You are helping bring Black people down.

    • katie

Just because some black people use the n-word and allow people to call them racial slurs doesn’t mean I gave up my right to have racial slurs thrown at me. Sit down.

  11. YOUNGZO

    finally. thank u Mr.Banner.

  12. YOUNGZO

We really need to stop using the N-word.. I was foolishly indoctrinated into believing the played saying that “the N-word is used as a term of endearment”.

    But really, is:
    “…b_tch a_s n_gga …
    …p_nk a_s n_igga …
    …stupid a_s n_gga …
    …dumb n_gga …
    …snitch a_s n_gga …
…broke n_gga… and the rest of the other pejorative qualifiers that almost always accompany the N-word a warm term of endearment given that these were the same things slave owners told our ancestors????

u don’t hear positive/uplifting assertions associated with the N-word. When’s the last time u heard something like:

“He’s a brilliant n_gga from down the block who got a scholarship ”

or…”He’s a kind n_igga, he drove out of his way to give me a ride home”

    wake up.

  13. T

    I NEED A DOWNLOAD LINK!!!!

  14. WOAH is me

Black people need to get over it!!!!!!!
The whole “WE WERE SLAVES” “PEOPLE R RACIST AGAINST US, CALLIN US THE n WORD”
    “WE STRUGGLE” blah blah blah
That ish is annoying! Everybody is racist INCLUDING BLACK PEOPLE n the funny thing is they r racist against their own kind!!!! So Stfu
    N YES, I’m black

  15. WOAH is me

N while we r tryna get rid of the “N” word can we get rid of the word “swag” as well

  16. A

Thank you. There are too many coons and okey-dokie black people allowing these people to call them racial slurs.

  17. 510510

This s#!t ain’t ordinary bruh. <3 David Banner

  18. N8

I get it but the listener of today won’t.At the same time David B needs to keep doin what he feels. The scene is horrible & should be pointed out every chance possible. In the end though if the listener doesn’t feel or think how do you overcome that?

  19. AplMacLady

good job David! Hopefully, this’ll get some airplay, because it’s sorely needed.

  20. Kells

Illuminati is not going to like this at all if you listen he made more than the 1 point he wasn’t just talking about the N word…so hopefully this gets played cause this is the type of music that we need to be hearing….

I agree wholeheartedly, Realish, black people are oppressed. Instead of bailing out banks the government needs to be bailing out black folks. This nation is indebted to you. A big reason so much tension between us remains after all of these years is because we never said, “I’m sorry.” “What we did was so wrong. I am so sorry. Please forgive me.” Even though the Civil Rights Act was passed America never admitted guilt, never awarded a settlement, so things are still unsettled. Hate and oppression linger. I can understand you interpreting hate in white people’s looks, but I want to say that, although we may look at you in an un-natural sort of way, it is not hate that is projected from every one of us (though from some, regrettably, that is no doubt the case). Some of us just don’t know how to project the love we have. We were not born with the hate, but we have been taught.

I’m just going to say, I struggle when exchanging passing glances with black men and women. The reason is because I don’t know what kind of eye contact you want (or not want), what kind would make you interpret it differently. I’d like my look to say, “I feel guilty that the situation exists that causes this uncomfortable eye contact between us but I don’t hate you, I respect you.”

Please, if anyone has advice, it’s plain to see I need it badly, and I would accept it gladly. I wish I could just look at you like I look at everyone else — that seems like the obvious and simple answer — but you’re not everyone else. There’s nothing between me and everyone else, but there is something between me and you.
