Kelly Rowland attended The Boys & Girls Club of America Back-to-School Kick-Off event in New York City’s Union Square on Thursday morning (August 4). The 30 year-old singer took part in the event in an effort to motivate students to set their educational goals in graduating high school. In an interview with Fox’s Good Day New York, Kelly shared why she decided to get involved:
More than a million young people last year failed to graduate with a high school diploma. For me, it’s about really motivating kids to go out there and seize the opportunity for education. We need education in our lives, when we’re walking down the street, when we’re going in for job interviews, when we’re trying to figure out contracts, when we’re going over taxes – you need it for your everyday life. The habits that you set up for yourself in high school are the habits that you have in life. Laziness should never be an option. I think it’s so important for parents to be involved with their children’s education.
Speaking of parents, later on in the interview, Kelly talked about her relationship with her parents and mentioned that she will soon have a “possible meeting up with” her estranged, biological father! Peep the entire interview and pics from the event below.
