President Barack Obama speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House on Tuesday, August 2, following Congress’s approval of a compromise to reduce the deficit. The compromise, which cut spending by $2.4 trillion over the next decade and prevented the nation’s first default, is “an important first step to ensuring that as a nation we live within our means,” the President said.
In his speech, President Obama thanked the American people for contacting their elected officials but stressed that both Democrats and Republicans must work together to ensure the nation’s long-term economy and that we’re all in this together.
I’ve said it before; I will say it again: We can’t balance the budget on the backs of the very people who have borne the biggest brunt of this recession. We can’t make it tougher for young people to go to college, or ask seniors to pay more for health care, or ask scientists to give up on promising medical research because we couldn’t close a tax shelter for the most fortunate among us. Everyone is going to have to chip in. It’s only fair. That’s the principle I’ll be fighting for during the next phase of this process.

i dont trust none of these muthafukkas!
i don’t have to do SHIT
good luck on the next election. HA
…LOL!! How many of y’all voted for this cat? My vote was for Ron Paul.
Well I voted for him, and I am glad I did.. Much better than what we had the previous 8 years before him. Fact: When Bush entered the office of President we had a surplus, when he left we had a deficit.
No disrespect, Tru Hip-Hop Fan, honestly; but let’s acknowledge that this was not a deal that will serve the people and that Obama, even if he is perceived to be “better than Bush,” has ultimately approved legislation that may lead to devastating changes for the populous, now and for years to come: http://www.truth-out.org/...ople-next-time/1312377490
All the debacle around the debt disgustion and all the negotions that were and are still going on between the Democrats and the Republican party is just silly and really makes you wonder how much power president Barack Obama has as the leader of our country.
I mean, I really don’t get it, we elected him to be the ruler, our guardian and our leader but yet when it comes time for him to take control and make a decision to carry our country forward for it to prosper, he leaves it in the hands of the Dems and Republicans to negoitate a deal.
Democracy, we want democracy yes, but it should be on a reasonable and realistic grounds. Like what the hell! Obama is the president, make a damn decision for the better of the American people. Many are happy that a decision was made to raise the debt ceiling before the deadline but what is not understood by many is how many funding for different initiatives will be cut at the liking of the rich party(the republicans).
I listen to both the Dems and Republicans fight over who is right and who has a better plan, and the news commentators speak on who won and got the upper hand in the deal that has been brought forward but what is not said or really talked about is that these two parties should be focused on one common goal at the end of the day and that is to better the country.
They say that’s there goal, but the saying still goes, action speak louder than words. The problem with our country is that we have too much pride, if we could stick our egos aside, we would look on and ask China for their support and opinion and assisting us on getting back on that scale.
And surely China would help us get our finances in gear, because the better we do economically, the better they do. Problem is our country has been greedy for a long time financially and take care of the rich and not the poor, so therefore on this system, we will continue to fall.
Well unfortunately our government doesn’t work like that, like you stated this is a democracy, not a dictatorship so for things to get passed and for things to get done, they have to go through both chambers of Congress to ensure the american people are represented. The president can’t just make decisions like this. The problem is with the type of elected officials in office.
I like Obama. I think he’s a ‘cool guy’, but I think this whole debt thing is crazy. Since his presidency in 2008/2009 the amount of money borrowed each year seems to have doubled compared to the previous years: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/..._54368013_us_debt_464.gif … and all in all the debt started to rise when the government decided to go to war… I’m not blaming just Obama for this, but maybe if so much money wasn’t spent on the war and on arms then there would be a significant, visible difference. OF course there are things that money HAS to be spent on, and those areas should fully be focused on. But war and arms?
Well he did inherit two wars and a global recession. He was forced to spend money (i.e. bailouts to major corporations and banks) so the world economy wouldn’t fall apart.
It all started with bush. Before bush was elected we had a gigantic surplus within out budget. when he left we had a massive deficit. Fu*k gee dubya. He is quite possibly the most incompetent president out country has ever seen!
OH don’t get me wrong! I know Obama came into presidency with a lot on his shoulders. PEople’s expectations of him were far too high to begin with. Indeed he did inherit two wars but he seems to have also chosen to carry on spending on those wars.
Love Obama and will vote for him again before voting for any Republican, but this was a bad move for the people. The tea titty baggers didn’t give an inch into taxing the rich but got deep cuts into spending for medicare and other programs geared toward helping the poorer communities. He could’ve enacted the 14th amendment and shut everyone down and did the right thing. It needs to be brought to the public before any vote is done so they can know exactly what’s going to happen if they choose wrong. He needs to speak in Ebonics, if possible, to get these hard headed people to understand and not think he’s doing jack shitt. We have got to get somebody in office that’ll say “fuck that and fuck you” and do what needs to be done regardless of what they’re being faced with.

Tea party and some repulic are making me feel that they are only for the rich, a country will not go on if it don’t protect all of the people and it said divide you fall together you shall stand it is alright to have disagreement differ ideas but what I just witness was just un-call for. So I say everyone need to pray for our leader starting now.
I hate that I cant watch these videos from my iPad..ughhhh
@MON:That`s very astute of you. I refuse to drink the kool-aid these criminals are trying to sell. I`m going to ask a poignant question, which is, when did The US Government ever give a damn about the masses. Hell forget democracy, this is a plutocracy that we are dealing with. Obama, like ALL, presidents, is nothing more than a ‘FIGUREHEAD’ for the privately owned equity firms along with Wall Street. The equity firms buy up and control all the companies and then send in their mercenaries/lobbyists to due their binding as they both run and control Government. It is they who are the wizards behind the curtain. Just think of all the hefty bonuses that all of these criminals get, along with their big salaries as the burden continues to be put on the back of the masses. I say, “TO HELL with them all”, including Obama. They lie and say they don`t have money for this and for that. But yet the money always seem to magically appear when it comes to engaging in wars for their imperialistic motives which won`t benefit the masses but only the rich. We are nothing more than chattel/commodity when it comes to The US Government. The Rothschilds and all these cronnies continue to eat their caviar caviar and sip their expensive champagne while dinning in their penthouses on 5th avenue while the masses continue to catch all the hell. I loathe all their asses because have sense enough to know that don`t work in my best interest. They use semantics and ambiguous language to keep the public confused as these masquerade around in one big CAVALCADE. It is the private firms and big business that run this corrupt system that we are all engaged with. And this corruption goes all the way from the bottom to the top. So Obama can speak words of grandeur all he wants when it comes to his oratory when he stands before us to make his usual speeches. But the bottom line still remains the same…The Government is for the rich and ONLY the rich. Some of these assholes who call themselves conservatives talk about Obama instigating ‘CLASS WARFARE’, hell this country has always been about ‘CLASS WARFARE’. Why do you think there`s such a historical gap between the rich and the masses with 1% controlling 99% of the wealth? That`s like one small group having 3/4 of the pie while everyone else has to share 1/4. Then they want to throw labels up, Democrat/Republican, Liberal/Conservative, to keep us running in circles without realizing they`re one in the same in the final analysis…They both work for the rich. It`s just like Brotha Malcolm said, one pretend he`s for you while the other is against you when neither one of them is for you. In other words good cop/bad cop. They can talk all they want about debt ceiling this debt ceiling that, NONE of it will benefit me. So I leave you with this. “The two parties have combined against us to nullify our power by a gentleman`s agreement with non-recogniton now matter how we vote. May God right us down as asses if ever again we are found putting our trust in either the Republican or Democratic Parties”. W.E.B. Dubois.
Peace, in the spirit of my ‘HERO’, Malcolm X
Well said and the absolute truth. Anyone who continues to praise Obama and be blinded by the fact that he’s a black man or that he made so many campaign promises is a fool. I was behind him 100% when he entered into office (even attended the inauguration), and I defended him for his first year and change in office, arguing that it was hard to reverse the damage that was done over the previous 8 years, but that he intended to do it and would. No longer. Obama is spineless and powerless. I am utterly disillusioned when it comes to politics in this country. Anyone foolish enough to think that another 4 years in office will give Obama any more balls is a fool. If the American people want power and for policy to reflect our needs and interests, we need to stand up and claim it. We need to demand it back from the corporations and from this puppet system of government that serves their interests. They’re not even pretending any longer that the needs and interests of the nation are a factor. Dark days ahead, if there is not a mass political awakening.
@READER
You should have just left it at “dark days ahead”. There will be no “political awakening” for America. This “country” was nothing but a proverbial science experiment from the very start and it has run it’s course. You seem like a halfway intelligent person, so you were a fool to believe that Obama ever intended to chang anything. I cannot understand for the life of me why “common citizens” would ever believe that the person “appointed” to the “office of president” would be put into that office by their vote lol & smh. Obama is about to go into a major phase of the so-called “new world order” agenda and he cryptically alluded to it in his wordplay. He stated that EVERYONE must “CHIP IN”. He is referring to the RFID chip, but that will go over most people’s heads. Good luck to you “patriotic” black Americans in the next four years. You will need it.
God Bless the president!
A year from now, I wonder what our financial status will be.
Truthfully it teamwork that runs the government. The president is commander but there are lower and higher levels that surround him if one level dont see eye to eye with him. As a whole the government can’t make a direct decision without effecting another. Its takes common sense and the ability to think of the people and the country as a whole not personal wants for the country and Barack has been doing a GREAT JOB. you can’t blame him if one thing goes wrong there are many other people who affect and influence decisons made they just have to come together truley to make the right decisions that will help the country and people in the best way. I think they are now getting it together slowly but surely. the main partsof our survivAL AS A COUNTRY HAS TO BE PROIRTY WHICH CAN THROW OFF THE OTHER THINGS PEOPLE FEEL SHOULD BE NUMBER 1 BUT IT ALL TAKES PLANING AND THINKING OF HOW TO BALANCE OUR IMPORTANT NEEDS WITH THE WANTS SO THAT NEITHER ONE THROWS OFF THE OTHER!
