Earlier this week, comedian, best-selling author and now radio host Steve Harvey roasted Tavis Smiley and Cornel West and their nationwide “Poverty Bus Tour.” Both Smiley and West have spoken out publicly against the Obama administration in promotion for the tour.

“I was a huge fan of Cornel West,” he said. “Tavis, I seen him coming a mile away. His anger started when he had a town hall meeting, President Obama couldn’t come because of the campaign trail and he sent Mrs. Obama. He has held that grudge every since.”
Harvey cited the fact that Cornel West has mentioned not getting tickets to the president’s inauguration. “Have you ever been invited to the damn inauguration? Did Bush send for you? Did Clinton send for you? Did Reagan send for you?”
He also said, “You don’t have any real basis behind your dislike for this man…you keep masking it saying it’s not about hate. Then what is it about? Poverty existed before January 20, 2008. Where was your damn bus then?” [ READ MORE ]
According to Loop21, the poverty bus tour is equipped with leather seat and flat screen TVs. Interesting.

It is comical to me how blacks are so quick to point the finger. It is also funny how if any black person criticizes or expresses a dislike for Obama, he or she is considered an “uncle tom”. Steve Harvey thinks because he has his circus of a show on BET, where he also dresses up like woman, and has a Tyler Perry-esque movie coming out he can comment freely on topics he knows nothing about. I get tired of hearing black people say he is not the Black President he is the president of all the people. Well aren’t we a part of all the people. We don’t seek an exclusive relationship with him we seek an inclusive relationship with him. When he helps the Mexican community does that make him a mexican president. We have to mature politically or we will never progress as a people. Tavis and Cornel were fighting for the rights of African Americans when Obama was turning corners and smoking crack. Why do so many blacks want to hitch their wagon to him and he will not even mention the black community until election time. No one even know where he came from. I guess John Conyers is a uncle tom also and the entire congressional black caucus because they all make the same criticisms that Tavis and Cornel made. Keep in mind this is a man who denounced his Pastor and later denounced the entire church. This is a man who said of his Aunt “if they catch her she should be deported” This is a man who refused to go to his dying mothers side, he later said that he regretted not going to her. He also through his grandmother under the bus when he announced to the world that she was a rascist. He goes to Kenya and doesn’t even look up his half brother, then goes to Ireland and tracks down some eigth cousin. His concept of a rising tide raises all boats is the same thing as trinkle down economics by another name. During the debates he stated “He is oppose to affirmative action based on race” because his daughters will not need help even though they are black (STUPID)I guess he has heard about the black business men who can’t get a taxi unless their secretaries call them or the guys with a PHD who can’t find a job. I heard a guy on the Joe Madison show who was a graduste from west point who couldn’t find a job. There are studies out that indicate that a Black man with a degree will not be hired before a White man without a degree. Im finished those that are under the spell of Obama will remain no matter what. I could go on expose the lack of integrity of our first Black President but I know it is pointless. Go vote for him again history always gets it right. You will regret it down the line because the next four will be just like the first four as far as African Americans are concerned. Is it reasonable to think that Tavis Smiley would be given a forum for his ‘Black’ theme about our communities on BET or any other network if he was truly a threat to The Powers That Be? You say BET is a black network. But I ask who`s really funding/subsidizing the station? Is it truly all black or otherwise. Many times we have to look beneath the surface in order to get an authentic picture of what`s really going on? I know of NO Black leader/spokesperson in history who was ever given a national forum, or allowed to have a national forum, who was a true threat to The Status-Quo. I challenge anyone to name one? Brother Malcolm was given a forum during his life, neither was Marcus Garvey, The Black Panthers, Che Guevara and many others. You see when one is truly a threat to the order of the day, who is truly standing for the masses, history has proven to us that those from that cloth usually aren`t around too long. Because they have the charisma, power, loyalty and wherewithal to unite the masses should they be given ample amount of time to fully implement their programs and for those programs and their beliefs to become imbedded in the hearts and minds of the masses. Why do you think there`s a story during biblical times of The King seeking to kill all male babies? It was because he had become aware of one who would come and who had the potential to unite the masses. So he therefore seeked to destroy The Messiah before he had a chance to upset his normal order of the day. Even J Edgar Hoover implemented a program that had as its` number one objective to prevent the rise of one who could unite and electrify the masses. So you see as things were during biblical times so are they today. So when you really think about it and analyze the situation and ask yourself one poignant question you can easily know the answer. If that SO-CALLED leader/spokesperson is given, or have, a prestigious postion and is given a national forum, are they really challenging The System and thereby a threat to The System? I don`t know any of these men personally. However, personal affiliation isn`t necessary when you study and is able to perceive that which is beneath the surface. The oppressors has always placed agents/inflitrators in our community to get our pulse and to squash any potential uprising or unrest before it has a chance to blossom into something that would become a major conflict. Sometimes these agents are placed in The Church as well as The Political arena. And once they leave our public view they then go back and report to massa. Massa then, in turn, gives them their pay and a pat on the back. That`s how the revolutions of both Denmark Vessey and Nat Turner were negated. I didnt like it when Clinton said America wasn’t ready for a black president but I understand and respect it now. Nobody is asking Obama to be the black folks president but at least the lower and middle class president that he said he would be. I am someone who have been very discourage about the way some folks when getting a platform have no idea what to do with it. With that Steve, you guys are going to have to do a better job at educating your listners when it comes to politics. This thing is so real out here. We have got to stop faking people out with this nonsense….you know the people who really gets hurt and suffer over this mess at the end of the day. If people will show up and make your hootie awards successful, your boys mentoring program successful and just the out right support for you successful. There is a difference between holding your leader accountable and sh*tting on them every chance you get. I personally have never heard Tavis say ANYTHING positive about the president. How is it possible that after passing a major health bill, bringing home troops from Iraq/Afghanistan, signing a stimulus that stopped a depression, getting money from BP for and managing the oil spill disaster, saving the auto industry, killing Osama Bin Laden and winning a Nobel Peace prize can you not speak ONE positive word about this person? After awhile if everything you say is “He doesn’t do THIS PARTICULAR THING THAT I WANT HIM TO DO” you sound stupid. The economy/unemployment is not EVERYTHING, it is a temporary aspect of the big picture, which most of the time. no one most likely defines a presidency by historically, like they do civil rights, women voting, social security, great wars, etc. People are hurting so bad economically, that i don’t think they are giving any credit at all to what this administration has done, only “where are the jobs for poor people” which is important, but only a part of the presidency. Obama is the President of the United States, which consist of everyone black, blue, green, or yellow. Everyone has a right to their opinions. I think there is just alot of frustration among these two. With that they need to create jobs, and quit looking for any President to help black people. There is a reason unemployment is very high for black people, its called racism, and its alive and well. We have to stop looking for hand outs, and put our hands and resources together and create opportunities for ourselves. From my understanding that “Uncle Tom” term is another misconception among blacks. The real “Uncle Tom” was a man named Josia Henson(spellchecK on first name)who lead his wife and family along with many other slaves from Kentucky to Canada and started the first training school for blacks.

I think the real issue is the hungry and the poor. I myself have seen death and starvation over a period of my life. Now me personally I think that this is a big issue no matter who’s in the white house we keep saying that we are a great nation of people lets do something about it. lets make sure people have food to eat. We can pay for wars but not feed the hungry in this country. The middle class has now moved to the working poor. Let’s do something about this problem people.
It’s pitiful that we still put our business on front street. White folk disagree and still keep it together, we as a people become personal. This discussion reminds me of the old tried and true method, “how to make a slave”. We should go to the polls make some real changes and hold our elected officials to task.
