It’s been 10 years since Aaliyah died tragically in an airplane accident. Her third LP, Aaliyah, had just been out for 3 weeks and it was steadily pacing up the Billboard charts.
After her passing, a collection of Aaliyah’s greatest hits, as well as some previous recorded material were included on a compilation called I Care 4 U. To much delight, fans received the single, “I Miss You,” as well as tracks like, “Don’t Know What To Tell Ya,” where we heard Aaliyah’s soft tone on a classic Timbaland production and the slinky, sexy fan favorite, “Come Over.” But there are a couple of songs from Aaliyah’s catalog that don’t often get recognized.
Instead of posting the typical favorites from fans that follow the Concrete Loop Twitter page, we decided to shed some light on Aaliyah tracks that may have previously gone unnoticed or unheard. Check out these tracks.
Aaliyah feat. Rashad Haughton – Death of A Playa (full) – listen
This rarely heard song from Aaliyah was recorded and co-written with her brother, Rashad, featured on a rap. The track appeared as a B-Side to Aaliyah’s maxi single, “The One I Gave My Heart To,” back in 1997. The track was allegedly produced by Timbaland. It later appeared on the maxi single to “4 Page Letter” off of her groundbreaking One In A Million album.
Aaliyah – Giving Up (full) – listen
Before her death, Aaliyah had been in talks about starring in the Whitney Houston-produced remake of the cult cinema classic, Sparkle. The track was recorded to test Aaliyah’s vocal on the song, “When You Really Love Someone.” The song circulated in small groups and on message boards shortly after her death.
Aaliyah feat. Static – Steady Ground (full) – listen
Sadly, we lost Static Major as well, back in 2008. Both collaborated heavily on her last album, Aaliyah, which was primarily recorded in Australia. This duet suffered around the time of her death as well, and was rumored to be included on the I Care 4 U compilation, but it was said that the track was missing many vocal elements.
Aaliyah feat. Missy Elliott & Tweet – Where Could He Be (full) – listen
Aaliyah frequently collaborated with Missy Elliott, and when she introduced Tweet on background vocals, it only made sense that the two worked together. Although not really prevalent on the track, Tweet can be heard primarily on the background vocals. The track samples and borrows from Lisa Stansfield’s classic song, “All Around the World.”

WHAT AN HONOR FOR ME TO BE THE 1ST TO COMMENT!!! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER – AALIYAH WAS DEFINATELY “ONE IN A MILLION,” – SHE LEFT A VOID IN MUSIC THAT WILL NEVER BE FILLED BY ANOTHER – R.I.P WE LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
That track giving up is hard to do should put to rest all of the claims that Aaliyah could not sing she was getting older and showing her range. Her vocals on that song were excellent.
I have all of these. I was expecting to see other unreleased. also check some of the demos or unfinished tracks like “Take your time” there are a few snippets you can find on youtube. the short while the Static Major blog was up, we got access to quite a lot of rare gems. as if it couldn’t be more frustrating to have lost her, discovering potentially really good tracks hurts.
I can clearly remember breaking down histerically when I found out – I mean I was just a child but Aaliyah made such a huge impact on music and was definately just begining to really blow up with all the movies she had lined up to be in and I just remember being in such a state of shock – I was truly hurt I mean she had so much in store such a huge loss it’s truly unfortunate – She will always be remembered as one of the most talented, most BEAUTIFUL, STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN EVER!!!
I agree with you 1000%, I was just 7yrs old when i found out Aaliyah died, now i’m 17 and it still hurts me. She was such an amazing person and entertainer. I still cry when i think about her, it feels like I lost a friend or a family member. It’s sad that she lost her life that way, because she had a bright future ahead of her, and she was way too young. There will never be another.
R.I.P Aaliyah Dana Haughton, we love and miss you.
R.I.P Aaliyah we love and miss you
“Giving up” is amazing <333
10 years on but her music still lives after, she is missed!
As soon as I got into her, after “Romeo Must Die,” she was gone. She’s still the prototype for what I look for in a female vocalist…Miss ya Aaliyah. She’ll always have a place in my heart and on my Pod. RIP.
YES to the track Giving up. I love that song, and was sure no one could sing it better than the actress who played Sister.
RIP Aaliyah
I remember that day like it was yesterday, I cried like no other she made a big impact in my life. Aaliyah’s self-titled album was so ahead of its time all of those songs would be hot today. Steady Ground is still my favorite unreleased song. Thanks Brian and RIP to one of the greatest Aaliyah
Aaliyah, love you now and always

Aaliyah was one of my favorites and still is today. I will miss her.
Artists & the label have to pick & choose tracks for various reasons. For example: you can only have X # of songs on the album, or they the artists themselves aren’t thrilled with a particular song.
So even though the fans may be thrilled by hearing & possessing unreleased music, it’s may be a bit unfair to the artists who aren’t here if they didn’t give their approval or disapproval.
So when listening to any of Aaliyah unreleased music (or any artist for that matter) please keep that in mind and try to avoid criticizing negatively if one feels inclined to do so.
With Aaliyah in our hearts and minds.. /.\
I’ve always thought that Where Could He Be should’ve been a single cuz, that ish is BANGING!
You have to listen to Where Could He Be on a real sound system not some mere computer speakers… BANGING FOR REAL!!

I loved Aaliyah as did we all… I remember when she passed away, it was like a death in the family. I just remember mysef and all of my cousins cried hysterically! Haven’t felt that close to another artist since… RIP Aaliyah… gone but NEVER forgotten
This just goes to show that God is Real and no matter what…when it is your time to go you must go. It is a sad story beause she was very talented and if she were here today she would be a force!
I like that song Steady Ground.
“steady ground” is hot.
I can see her playing Sista in a remake of Sparkle, that would have been a major move on her part.
still missing her terribly. RIP lil momma. Your music is still hot!
