VIDEO: MARY J. BLIGE SPEAKS ON “THE HELP” INVOLVEMENT + ACTING CAREER

Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige sat down with BlackTree TV to discuss her burgeoning acting career, as well as her contribution to The Help, which hits theaters this week. Mary was so moved by the film that she wrote and recorded an original song, “The Living Proof”, “because I think we need to encourage each other more, we are here to tell a story”.

As she prepares to release her tenth studio album, My Life 2: The Journey Continues, scheduled for release October 4, Mary says she’s also gearing up for more film roles, including next year’s film adaptation of Rock of Ages, a Lifetime movie titled Parallel Lives and the long-delayed Nina Simone biopic:

“The film thing, I believe, is gonna start happening more often…I want Queen Latifah to be proud of me, I want Taraji to be proud of me, I want even Meryl Streep to give me a call and say, “Hey, girl you’re doing good,” and Angela Bassett, of course.”
