Frank Ocean is just dropping music videos back-to-back! After releasing his music video for his demo track, “Thinking About You”. The singer/songwriter is hitting us with yet another video, only this time it’s for his nostalgia, ULTRA single, “Swim Good”. The video was directed by Nabil.

his music is very good. i love his sound and lyrics… but the videos have been kind of weird
O….K…. I think Frank may have bumped his head. He didn’t want to mouth the words or anything huh? I truly enjoyed this mixtape, but these videos? Geeeesh… Dude just spent over 4 minutes playing with a bloodied samurai sword in some J’s and a kimono… Am I missing something somehow? Is there some hidden level of artistry at play here? What is the symbolism of blowing up that painted limo from Trading Places while rocking a panda mask and smashing on popcorn? Honestly, I think dude just filmed two vidoes in one day. SMH…

Video is a quite unique…a bit scary to continue to promote the music. As he murders the girl with the samurai sword, and evidently dumps her body in the ocean and then blows up the card.
The video shows a dark side for sure…his music is tasteful, but the video helps you to get the know the artist. As of right now…he is Unique!
It’s really almost saddening that people are mad that he didn’t make a conventional video. Art is (and should be) unique creative expression. Go to an art museum and realize that not everyone has done a painting on a canvas. Anyway, I quite like the video and love Frank.
I love Frank Ocean, this is one of my favorite songs by him. I don’t mind the videos being different. I liked the one for Thinking about you.
I dont get it. Did he kill her? I only made it through 10 seconds of the “thinking about you” video but his whole video vibe is like creativity gone too far. Some people really forsake art just to be different. This isnt art its just dumb. Make a video that people are going to want to watch over and over. Not this 12th grade TV production quality BS. Love the mixtape though.

“Make a video that people are going to want to watch over and over.” No. That is exactly what is not art.. that is business. There’s a difference between the two. The point of art is that you make what you want- not what other people do. It’s the same way that Kanye didn’t think about making his album cover art for DTF suitable to be sold in Wal-Mart while in the process of making the album. What comes into play is you- your art and how you want to convey it- not other people. Like go back to school said- I feel like people would be more comfortable if he did a conventional video in the club. There’s no such thing as creativity going to far, people just live off of stifling someone else’s creativity and keeping everything conventional and safe and familiar. Your perception is weirder than the video.
I’m not gone front, lyrics don;t make since, maybe to some people, but frank keep trying.
WOW! I can truly appreciate the artistry in these videos. Plus, the lyrical content is so different and dynamic.
This man definitely is impressive. His voice is also very soothing.
I can see how he writes for so many superstars. FIrst time really listening to anything he has self-published. WOuld definitely buy this album if the rest of the songs/videos were like this.
Honestly, it is a lot of what I envision when listenig to the song. At the same time, he is an artist with his own vision. I didn’t get “all” of it.. like, for instance, did he kill that chick?? But then again I didn’t get all of it when I first discovered the song. The more I translated the lyrics to my understanding the more I understood! I’m assuming the same will be for the video. WITH ALL THAT SAID, “SWIM GOOD” IS A RIDICULOUSLY GOOD SONG. Frank Ocean is a GIFTED writer. He tells magnificent stories, that, like a painting being drawn before you, are slowly revealed and beautifully layered in your mind.

One person said they watched 10 seconds of the other video and didn’t get it….huh? Everything doesn’t have to be obvious and shallow.
My take on the lyrics of “Swim Good” was it is a song about shedding his old ways/self and becoming a new, better person. Could also be interpreted spiritually. I’ve also heard others compare it to a suicide note…which is what it appears to be in the video.
That’s the beauty of layered, complex lyrics. They can have multiple meanings. Stop accepting mediocrity.

Idk but I saw this a little differently…his album talks about the ending of a relationship, a love dying… I felt this video represents that…In the video he literally kills the girl but figuratively it is him killing her in his mind b/c the relationship is over. He then goes to the ocean to clear his mind to search for something more to begin anew…either way I love the video and he is a great talent & his writing & artistry is refreshing to the more and more artistic-less music industry..
