NEWS/AWARENESS: EXECUTION DATE FOR TROY DAVIS NEAR

Although 48-year-old death row inmate Duane Buck may have been recently granted a 30-day reprieve without challenging his guilt, another black man can only wish for a similar fate.

Troy Davis, a Georgia death row inmate since 1991, has been issued his fourth execution date of September 21, 2011 (SEE OUR PREVIOUS POST). Davis was convicted of the August 19, 1989, murder of Savannah, Georgia, police officer Mark MacPhail.

No physical evidence connects Davis to the crime, and seven of the nine original witnesses have changed their stories, some citing pressure from law enforcement for the initial testimonies. He has always maintained his innocence, but state and federal courts seem determined to take his life even though Sylvester “Red” Coles is the alternative suspect and nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating him as MacPhail’s murderer.

With mere days left before his scheduled execution, on Monday, the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles is set to decide whether Davis’s sentence should be commuted or whether the execution should be carried out as scheduled. The board denied clemency in its first consideration of the case in 2008, but three new members have been added. Fifteen boxes of petitions with the names of over 663,000 people opposing the execution have been delivered to the parole board.

There’s still time for you to get involved and help stop Georgia from executing a man who may be innocent. Send a message that you oppose Troy Davis’s death penalty. View an archived interview with Troy’s sister, Martina Correia, below, and read her story in her words here.

I am from the UK and I heard about this story a few weeks ago and signed the petition, I only wish I’d have heard about it sooner so I could have gotten more involved…I have been reading up about it finding out about the story in full and it baffles me to unbelieveable extreme’s how this man is still on death row with what we know a final execution date…I am thinking about him and his family constantly and I am hoping for any miracle that this does not go through…All My Love & Support goes out to Mr Troy Davis and his Family xxx

the execution date shouldn’t be reschedule another time… This man should be FREE since a long time ago. You can’t lock a man, and less kill one, once he’s presumed innocent. This story is crazy! And how arrogant is this for a human being to think he can decide when to take a life in oder to make “justice”?? Even more arrogant coming from a country that praise god every 2 seconds… That’s damn hypocrite!

Wish all these “singers” / “actors” / tabloide people were using their fame to serve human right. Human being is so selfish. That’s disgusting

I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. E specially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from ..HitPenny.çom

Law enforcement…methinks the laws of this land are a defunct if this is what happens when they’re enforced. Or there are some corrupt unwritten laws. These officials aren’t out for justice and they never were. It would be expensive and embarassing for them to start a new investigation and admit they have the wrong man. And they used eyewitness accounts? Those things are shoddy and people can get mixed up in the head, thus recalling somebody’s face but in the wrong place, at the wrong time of day, etc. Many death-row and rape convictions that get overturned were intially based on eye-witness accounts but then invalidated by DNA testing, which they refuse to do for Davis. (I used to have the stats for overturned convictions but I lost them…damnit). It usually takes a lot of pressure for them to finally open up another investigation.

I am sad for him. Meanwhile, cops are being acquitted left and right for murder, excessive force and harassment. And they’re slowly becoming militarized as written about in a recent online article.

Sign the petition a few days ago! Let that man be free already!

This is so wrong. The judge that sentenced him or whoever it is will have blood on their hands. The Vatican, Desmond Tutu and people all over the world can see that this is wrong. There is no actual evidence and the witnesses have even changed their stories pointing to alternative suspect. Obama needs to step up on this one.

Everyone needs to sign the petitions online.Call the numbers of these so called lawmakers. This is just so terribly wrong.Theres nothing tying him to the crime.Im praying for him and his family.Ireally think if they execute him there will be a public uproar-and its completely justified!!!

I have been browsing online more than three hours as of late, yet I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. It?s pretty worth sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content as you probably did, the net will likely be much more helpful than ever before.
