‘ROUND THE WAY: R. KELLY SAYS TREY SONGZ NEEDS TO HUMBLE HIMSELF & ALSO TALKS CHRIS BROWN

September 16th, 2011

Chicago’s very own R. Kelly stopped by WGCI’s Tony Sculfield & The Morning Riot Show on Thursday (September 15) to chat it up on the popular syndicated radio station.

During the interview, Kelly announced the title of his upcoming 12 Play-inspired album – Black Panties (yes, black panties), revealed the name of the lead single – “10 Minutes” and talked about his thoughts on Trey Songz & Chris Brown.

On the whole Trey Songz drama:
“I was pretty numb. I dont feel those type of things man. It’s like I’m bullet proof when it comes to beef. I don’t deal with beef. I love steak. [...] I feel like struggle toughens your armor. You gotta go through to get through.”

On who he think has next if he were to step down from the R&B game:
“I know that Trey Songz is the guy that if he keeps with the hits and he humbles himself a bit more, he will definitely be one of the runner ups.”

When asked if he could see Chris Brown stepping in:
“Chris Brown is already there as far as he’s concerned. Because you know, he’s a humble guy. Chris Brown used to come to my studio when he was 13, 14, 15 and 16 and he learned a lot from me. I used to lecture him all the time. I’ve got the upmost respect to Chris Brown. My hat goes off to him. Because why? He got in the studio, he did what he was supposed to do and he bounced back like a round ball.”

You can listen to the entire interview below. Towards the end of Part 2, R. Kelly takes a minute to explain how the title Black Panties came about. LOL I can’t.

Trey is a pale copy of R.Kelly, he would never be Kels! Dont know what these youngins see in him when you still have the pipes of Kelly & his mature swag! “When A Woman Loves” by itself shits on anything Trey has done vocally!
And funny how ppl say females swagga jack when Trey has been swagga jackin Kels during all his mainstream career!
I’m just not here for Trey’s trembling yodelling weak voice.

I like Trey, but that vibrato is terrible. Plus, Kels was right, he does need to humble himself because he’s feeling himself way too much.

Trey dissed Kells? He must be an idiot because anyone with ears knows he has been riding Kells’ d*ck. Ask people like Sisqo (who can actually sing) what cockiness has done to their career.

Trey definitely needs to humble himself. He’s not that good looking to begin with, don’t know why he’s considered a sexy symbol(maybe his lyrics?). Other than that, he was definitely out of pocket with his diss.

Though he is a very talented brother, Mr. Kelly can use some humbling himself. He isn’t as great as he thinks himself to be.

But in all fairness he didn’t really disrespect Trey. I can tell he does think Trey is talented. Instead of talking about one another all the time in interviews they need to put their creative differences aside and work with each other again.

It’s funny how the song Trey did came out almost 3 years ago and people are still talking about it. Crazy. LOL

As arrogant, cocky or whatever have you I still prefer Trey’s personality over R. Kelly.

Kellz is humble and always has been. And, he is great, because he has the vocal ability, talent, accolades, and longevity to back it up. No, it wasn’t a diss to Trey. It was advice. And he would be wise to take it.

Trey is untalented and R. Kelly knows it but of course he wouldn’t state this live on radio because he’s a humble person.

      R. Kelly doesn’t talk about the goat in interviews – it’s the other way around. He doesn’t need to work with an untalented goat either.

Of course you prefer Goat’s personality because you’re just another overweight chick that thinks that Goat would f*ck them, lmao.

Once again, Kellz is spot-on! Yes, Trey does need to humble himself. I used to be a fan w/ the 1st couple albums & he used to appear humble in those days, & the music seemed genuine. Since then, I definitely think he’s been feelin himself too much, believing the (unearned & undeserved) hype ppl have built up for him, & has become way too extra. The oversexed image seems contrived. If he adjusted his attitude (& stopped trying too hard), he could be doing better. Kellz hasn’t gotten 22 yrs deep in the game w/ all the success for nothing. Clearly the man knows what he’s doing/talking about.

I will say that Trey doesn’t perform very well on televised shows the camera’s audio isn’t in love with his vocals. However I have seen him perform live several times and he is actually a good singer. Surprisingly though R. Kelly has a stronger voice than Trey’s and I heard him live and thought it was one of the most boring shows I have ever been to.

@ :) “The camera’s audio isn’t in love with his vocals”!? o_O You can’t be serious. More than once!? But other people sound fine with that same camera audio. @Stacy

I’m dead serious. LOL But in all seriousness I will admit he isn’t a good performer when he does televised shows. It could be nervousness. But when I see him live I am never disappointed in his performances.

I’m a very rational person. It’s just a matter of opinion but like I said the live performance I seen of R. Kelly was VERY BORING. I didn’t say the brother couldn’t sing but his performance lacked enthusiasm. When you have most people sitting in their seats it’s a sign you aren’t doing to well.

    R. Kelly stated that Chris Brown is one of the artists he mentored prior to his successful career. Mind you R. Kelly mentored many other artists under Jive Records.

Aaliyah NEVER moved in with R. Kelly. Aaliyah lived with her family and would visit Chicago Recording studio to record her music. Her family would travel with her, as well.

This was way back in the early 90′s before she got big.
And for her parents, something was wrong with them cause her brother was a fag and they sold their daughter to a rich record label for money. They still living big off of her fame til this day.

All these bias opinions defending Trey songz obviously coming from his loyal fans.. As a fan of both artist, i agree Trey Songz needs a ton of humbling, he does carry himself with an over the top “i’m the shit” attitude on screen and in person. R Kelly never had an ego problem and has earned the titles abd definately put in work with making, writing, singing hit after hit over the years… Trey songz made himself sound ignorant as hell with that comparison of R kelly stealing Aaron hall’s style to him jacking R Kellys style on the last album.. you diss the man and justify swagger jacking his music all in the same sentence? SMH.. thank god I don’t judge ppl’s music off their personalities in real life.

What is this all about some “swag”? SWAG has nothing to do but just even push us black people down for our lack of REAL VOCABULARY! Trey is a sex symbol nothing more, nothing less. And Kelly is a former jail mate for dating a young Aaliyah, yet people glorify them as Gods?

They both lost their appeal and the fans lost their good taste in actual music. Marvin Gaye and Al Green could BOTH outperform this jive turkeys in their primes, and this is coming from a 50′s generational adult.

Live and let live because sooner or later these people will be nobodies and people like Michael Jackson will still unfortunately be considered as pop culture, even beyond the grave.

today I am posting this comment out of pure disappointment and frustration.
I was to be attending what in my opinion would have been the greatest concert of the year. The date was Dec. 3, 2011, but to much astonishment this concert was cancelled the day of the concert. Now to make things even worst, this was the second time the concert was cancelled. The August 13th date was also cancelled(but this was understandable) Kells was having an emergency throat surgery. But this time there were no special circumstances, no emergency, just he didn’t feel like it.
Now Kells want to send a statement of “I am sorry”. This is really not working for me!! Does he really know the agony he has put people through for the second time. Some have taken off from work twice just to prepare to see him. Still yet others have spent out alot of money for preparation. For example, booking hotel rooms(that are non-refundable the day of an event!!),buying new outfits, having new hair-do’s done, the list goes on. I really believe if he truly cares for his fans, He needs to do a little more than I am sorry. Especially since he released such a lame reasoning for why he was not appearing. If he REALLY did not want to be bothered with Savannah, he should have never agreed for it to be rebooked. A city should not have to beg for Kelly to come. If he really cared he would have went beyond the margins to make this concert happen, with the plague of him already cancelling before. I have ALWAYS been behind Kelly no matter what the public threw out there, but now I really don’t know, He isn’t showing any love back. The trivia question for the day is “Who breaks someone’s heart 2 times in 4 months?” And your answer would be R Kelly. Now there is man with no compassion, no remorse, just outright selfish!!!!! Sometimes Kells, doing the right thing is more important than doing what you want to do..
