Businessman Jay-Z hosted The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation’s Carnival: Making The Ordinary Extraordinary, a charity event created to help raise money in hopes of providing financial assistance to teens experiencing socio-economic hardships, with hopes of seeking a higher education at a private or public college.
The star-supported Chrysler-sponsored event (held at NYC’s Hudson River Park’s Pier 54) reeled in celebrities like Sylvia Rhone, ?uestlove, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Susan Taylor, Estelle, Kevin Liles, Andre Harrell, Michael Eric Dyson, Steve Stoute and Angie Martinez. After a night of rides, dart-throwing, fun & games and more, The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation raised $1,033,000!
If you wanted to attend the event, it would cost you $1,000. Yes, the price was definitely on the steep end, but the pro is that each ticket will one day pay for a child or teen’s tuition and books. Kudos to Mr. Carter for successfully raising a milli!
The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation was conceived of in 2002 and officially established as a 501(c)3 public charity in 2003 by Shawn & his mother, Gloria Carter. Since the Foundation’s inception, over 750 students have received awards totaling over $1.1 million dollars.

That’s a beautiful thing Jay did. These kids out here really need that. They need hope that they can actually live their dreams no matter where they come from and who better to show that then someone who has come from the same place. Kudos to you Jay.
So glad someone said something positive about this. We need more celebs to be doing this kind of work.
Good Job Mr. Carter
Good looking out Jay! Plus he looks surprisingly handsome these days, must be fatherhood:-P
Never saw his mom before, they look just alike……Jay-Z looks very handsome in the first picture.
he really does…never understood why people call him ugly
So happy with what he’s doing…nothing better than folks helping less privileged people
Way to go!! I have a lot of respect for Sir Carter and his philanthropic endeavors!
Big up to Mr. Carter doing something else positive. A lot of people should do more charitable work.
Kudos to Jay for the organization!

Does the money actually help a child’s education? I don’t want anyone calling me out. I am just really curious about celebrities who claim their charity is helping children when they are just generating more and more money for themselves.
PREACH!
Yes indeed Jay-z does look very handsome in the first pic ..Ive always thought he has a beautiful smile lights up his entire face.. its wonderful that he’s helping out with Educating . kids “kudos” Sean Carter
so u mean to tell me a multi millionare still felt the need to still ask folk for money for his organization when he could’ve given it from his own pocket, i don’t think it would’ve hurt his pocket one bit. Celebs kill me i tell ya lol..
You are an idiot.
You saying it right – forget asking others for cash to fund YOUR foundation when you wipe your butt with 50′s!!! Come-on (& I like Hov)!!!
I was waiting for this. When you get your money, you can donate all of it if you want. It’s his money therefore HE CAN SPEND IT HOWEVER HE WANTS.
And I don’t see anyone getting mad about this event, I mean if a ticket was $1000 and they raised $1million, it just proves that a THOUSAND people had no problem with Jay’z idea so…
ok so where can i apply for this scholarship… i need help paying for college
Very nice.
He looks good in these photos.
This guy is worth well over $300 million and all he could raise was a million dollars? I think its bullshit.
Wonderful work! That is the type of info that are supposed to be shared across the net. Disgrace on Google for now not positioning this submit upper! Come on over and visit my website . Thanks =)
