Nia Long will be the next celebrity to grace the cover of EBONY magazine! In the November 2011 issue, the 40 year-old mommy-to-be (for the 2nd time) shared how shocked she was about her unplanned pregnancy, how she and her boo, Ime Udoka are preparing for their upcoming addition as well as her thoughts on being a pregnant woman in her 40s:
The medical profession tries to tell every woman, ‘Have your babies before 40…’ Society tells us ‘Get married before 30…’ I think if we just take our time as women, and do what comes natural to us and for us, we would make fewer mistakes.
The baby is expected to make its arrival within the next 2 months or so. If this baby decides to come out on October 30th, then that would be one special 41st birthday gift for Nia! Check out the alternative cover below.

A child is a beautiful blessing from God, the sin is in the sex not the child, only God can give life…sin is sin and God despises a hyprocrite so stop judging and let this lady enjoy her pregnancy please!

As a medical student I understand the reasoning and risks to having a baby in older ages (>35 yrs). But I agree with Nia, because at this point I am no where near wanting marriage or a child.
I don’t know why people are so selective on who they can judge. No one was saying anything when Alicia first got pregnant without being married. Nor did anyone say anything about Halle when she got pregnant without a ring, and she proudly boasted that she did not plan on ever getting married. There are so many celebrities having babies without a ring. I wish people would get off their high horse and stop judging people, as if in their lives they do everything right. Worry about yourselves, in the end you won’t have time to worry about anyone else. Carry on…
Maybe because they are light bright and half white? You know some black folks don’t even know why they judge people the way they do. They did the same with AK and Fanny (largely).

Jesus said let he who is without sin cast the first stone and slowly everyone walked away until no one was left except Jesus and the woman convicted of adultery… funny is, her accusers were the worst offenders of the law of love and relationship. Unfortunately, we’ll be stuck with judgmental people forever… I’m happy for Nia, as a 36 year old without children, she gives me hope for waiting a little longer to make a better life for my future family.
Yes I agree. I too am 36 without children and I’m not in a rush. I’m kind of old fashion and want to wait until I’m married plus my dad would love that but people have been judging her for what she wants to do with her life. She doesn’t have to do what the public thinks is right. It’s her life and she should live for her not us. This is between her and God. I’ve seen some people say she’s not representing black women in a good light. I beg to differ since the majority of black women I see have multiple kids out of wedlock so to me she is representing the majority of black women.

You are doing the right thing, ladies. It is not glamourous to have a baby without being married. Just because you see it in the neighborhood you live in does not make it right. White women have known this from the jump that making a baby does not the man secure. Get your career on, your life on, or whatever it is. I don’t care if you are 41, 21 or 51. Medical science has made it easier for people who are willing to have babies at a later date. Black Women, wake up!!!
