CL TOPIC: CHRIS ROCK SAYS COMEDIANS WEARING DRESSES, NOT JUST A BLACK THING – WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?

Pictured Above: Tyler Perry as Madea Mable & Martin Lawrence as Big Mama.

With Tyler Perry receiving much backlash for being a horrible director and screenwriter, many onlookers in the African-American community have also had a problem with the successful producer having to humorously wear a dress to get the attention of the masses.

Comedian Chris Rock addressed the topic in a recent interview with VIBE magazine and pointed out that it is nothing new and is not just an African-American male comedian thing:

“I mean, hey, lots of comedians dress up like women, not just Black. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book. Men in drag…There was Mrs. Doubtfire. [Adam] Sandler’s next movies is Jack and Jill. He plays his brother and sister. [The Black community] doesn’t have that many movies, so if there’s only four Black movies in a year and two of them star Black men in dresses, I could see how that would upset some people. But that’s a job for some people… Tyler Perry is great in a dress, but I don’t want to see Denzel or Will Smith in a dress. And I don’t think we’re in any danger of seeing that.” [Source]

TV BIT: IDRIS ELBA STOPS BY ‘JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE’

The handsome Idris Elba stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show on Wednesday night (October 12). The half-Sierra Leone & half-Ghanian actor talked about how he had to deal with his full name (Idrissa) and control being teased, his miserable experience while working at Ford Motors for two years and his favorite American TV shows while growing up.

The name I was born with was Idrissa. When I got to about 9-year-old. I realized that there was Melissa and Clarissa, I got rid of that ‘-sa’ at the end. I did [have to learn to fight]. Idrissa was not going to stick, so I had to teach people to say, ‘Idris’. So I had them in lock [pretends to beat someone down] and be like, ‘What? Oh, you got it!’

…Boys will be boys…Lol Peep Part II below, too… Continue
