‘ROUND THE WAY: BEYONCE ACCUSED OF STEALING AGAIN FOR “COUNTDOWN” VIDEO + BELGIAN CHOREOGRAPHER SPEAKS

Beyoncé premiered a new music video for “Countdown” last week, so it was only a matter of time before the superstar was accused of stealing the video’s concept from someone else — this time, Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

The video’s director, Adria Petty, says she and Beyonce chose the references for the pop culture retrospective together: “I brought Beyonce a number of references, and we picked some out together. Most were German modern-dance references, believe it or not.”

Belgian radio station Studio Brussel created a comparison of scenes from “Countdown” with choreography from De Keersmaeker; check out the video below. Meanwhile, De Keersmaeker says she’s neither angry nor honored about the resemblance to her choreographies. Read her remarks in full below.

“Countdown” vs. De Keersmaeker Choreography

“Like so many people, I was extremely surprised when I got a message through Facebook about the special appearance of my two choreographies – Rosas danst Rosas (1983) and Achterland (1990) in Beyoncé’s new videoclip Countdown. I was asked if I were now selling out Rosas into the commercial circuit…

When I saw the actual video, I was struck by the resemblance of Beyoncé’s clip not only with the movements from Rosas danst Rosas, but also with the costumes, the set and even the shots from the film by Thierry De Mey. Obviously, Beyoncé, or the video clip director Adria Petty, plundered many bits of the integral scenes in the film, which the videoclip made by Studio Brussel by juxtaposing Beyoncé‘s video and the Rosas danst Rosas film gives a taste of. But this videoclip is far from showing all materials that Beyoncé took from Rosas in Countdown. There are many movements taken from Achterland, but it is less visible because of the difference in aesthetics.

People asked me if I’m angry or honored.

Neither, on the one hand, I am glad that Rosas danst Rosas can perhaps reach a mass audience which such a dance performance could never achieve, despite its popurality in the dance world since 1980s. And, Beyoncé is not the worst copycat, she sings and dances very well, and she has a good taste!

On the other hand, there are protocols and consequences to such actions, and I can’t imagine she and her team are not aware of it.

To conclude, this event didn’t make me angry, on the contrary, it made me think a few things.

Like, why does it take popular culture thirty years to recognize an experimental work of dance? A few months ago, I saw on Youtube a clip where schoolgirls in Flanders are dancing Rosas danst Rosas to the music of Like a Virgin by Madonna. And that was touching to see. But with global pop culture it is different, does this mean that thirty years is the time that it takes to recycle non-mainstream experimental performance?

And, what does it say about the work of Rosas danst Rosas? In the 1980s, this was seen as a statement of girl power, based on assuming a feminine stance on sexual expression. I was often asked then if it was feminist. Now that I see Beyoncé dancing it, I find it pleasant but I don’t see any edge to it. It’s seductive in an entertaining consumerist way.

Beyond resemblance there is also one funny coincidence. Everyone told me, she is dancing and she is four months pregnant. In 1996, when De Mey‘s film was made, I was also pregnant with my second child. So, today, I can only wish her the same joy that my daughter brought me.

This is nothing new..we already know shes a conniving thief. Now lets talk about that fake baby bump that deflated during her interview on Sunday Night. Rofl poor Bey..

    • Countra

beyonce better start being original..and stop this stealing..

      Subway giving away $100 giftcards http://goo.gl/pnkjh …4 their 40th anniversary…next 24 hours only ..i been eating free all week..lol

    • JL

Honestly, Stop throwing around the words “thief,” “copycat” and “stealing.” I’m so tired of this. Art references art! It has always been that way. Beyonce’s videos have always had a reference point. And so have so many musical artists that preceded her and will succeed her.

No one screamed when Naughty Girl referenced “The Band Wagon.” No One screamed when Michael Jackson referenced the same film for Smooth Criminal. Or at Madonna for “Material Girl.” And no one is screaming at De Keersmaeker for being a hypocrite when she, herself, has referenced the film “Blow-Up” in her works. Hell no one screamed when Keri Hilson recreated TLC’s exact moves in that Pretty Girls Rock video.

The internet makes people so ignorant.

    • JL

Also, if we want to keep calling her a copy cat we should provide the same courtesy to the following:

Usher and Chris Brown for copying Michael Jackson,
Rihanna for copying Madonna, Grace Jones, and David LaChapelle
Britney copying Janet Jackson and Debbie Gibson.
Lady Gaga copying Madonna, David Bowie and Elton John.

      Why we’re at it:
Madonna stop stealing from Debbie Harry
Prince stop stealing from Rick James, Jimi Hendrix, George Clinton and Sly
Michael stop stealing from the Rat Pack, Fred Astaire, Jackie Wilson and James Brown

    • REALTALK 101

There’s a difference in being inspired by someone and straight jacking. In this case it was pretty much a straight jack. Everybody on JL’s list were jackers besides Michael Jackson. He was inspired by others and always was quick to give props but he gave us his own renditions. He never straight jacked! Bey just needs to credit people before jacking or hire more innovative people.

    • W.G.M.

the original creator said Beyonce “STOLE” her ideas…that is what she said.

    • ITS ENTERTAINMENT

@JL you couldnt have said it any better!!!!Damn let her live ITS ENTERTAINMENT!!

The fact that this lady explained the meaning (Female empowerment) of the video & the fact that she was pregnant in the film as well as Bey says alot…BEY KNOWS WHAT SHES DOING! She finds similarities n things she stand for or to describe the song shes filming for & it works for her!…

Her new video “Love on top” has references from New edition “If this isnt love” jus to warn you people

    • JL

      @Realtalk 101
Trust me there are many references that Michael used that he didn’t credit. And Beyonce has always mentioned her references. this post even mentions that they looked at German Dance to pull from. It’s appropriation and its natural. look at the way people dress. They are usually pulling from the past or the way others dress, or something they’ve seen or grown up with. Just look at renaissance art and how many paintings reference one another. People DEAL

@JL there’s no reason to get butt hurt. But just to point out and correct you. People like Usher and Jason Derulo, Ne-Yo etc…… COPY michael. Where as you can clearly tell everything, Chris does towards Michael, he is inspired by him. You know he tributes it to his idol. Don’t be ignorant

      Regards

    • KenyaSoSweet

First, the artist named by JL could’ve went through the proper channels to get permission to copy their work…we don’t know. In this case, the artist herself states publicly that she found out Beyonce copied her work without permission. When we see artist performing another artist work or “Impersonating” them i.e. chris brown and MJ, it is considered an honor by the Originator. Most times they are not plagarising for commercial use! They are simply paying tribute. Ciara copied Janet’s Rhythm Nation routine on someting I saw and no one made noise about it because Ciara’s camp probably went through the proper channels. Beyonce’s problem is she thinks she can do what she wants without any real consequences. And with the level of power her handlers have, she pretty much can. I don’t understand how one person can have that many idols….seems so God-like. Glad I’m a believer and not an Idol worshipper! These celebrities are leading people straight to the fury fire of hell…if you are holding their hands now, let go before it is too late. Stop worshipping these people who wouldn’t pay your a$$ 2 seconds of attention if you saw them out in public. Is it really worth it? These entertainers get paid a ridiculous amount of money to do something so many of us are blessed to do…sing, act, and dance! They are no differenct than you and me. I don’t understand why their yearly incomes vary drastically from an average american’s. We should be giving our teachers, social workers, law enformcement officials, nurses, postal workers etc. their salaries!! Hell, these people do REAL work that keeps OUR country functioning! But no, we are the people in the trenches doing the work but spend our valuable free time making sure these entertaining puppets are millionares! We are stupid and blind at the same damn time! No wonder God warned us that the last kingdom to rule over the world would be a kingdom divided with many ruling nations and the most wickedest people to ever rule earth! Satan has dominion and we give him the power to kill and destroy in a very covert way!

  2. Lisa

Oh wow, Beyonce’s team needs to get it together..

  3. Tiffan.E.

I don’t recall CL ever doing post like these in the past, I liked it that way….but anyway….
I am a Beyonce fan. Love her. And I’m sure everyone on CL that recognizes my name knows so as well. However, I will not be delusional to these situations. Yes, Beyonce has been accused of copying only about 18388392 times and yes we are all familiar with it. I really truly wish Beyonce, or her team, would stop “taking” other peoples ideas without settling issues first. I mean, I just don’t understand. It happens almost EVERY time. Either Beyonce’s team just doesn’t give a f*ck about her image or they’re very careless.
That being said, I also don’t see why these situations are always brought to the public. This does not have to be a public issue. The lady could have very well contacted Bey’s people and worked on the situation. I just feel like these people are money hungry attention seeking fools. Clearly with this video there is no denying the “inspiration” but with other ones like Sweet Dreams, 1+1, etc….it’s just dumb to me. I am probably being biased but really. WHO is original today? Honestly. Every song on the radio is a freakin replica of that last one played. That’s just how the world works. But wait, it’s BEYONCE so let’s make this a HUGE DEAL.

    • MichaelAngelo

They are treating Bey just like they did MJ and Oprah. She stated where she got the theme for this video and always states her inspirations. Other artist do this all the time. I guess it’s b/c she is such a super star force. Idk. I’m over the haters.

    • Derrick

I was going to make the same comment regarding CL. They are always so quick to post these stories. Bla

    • WendyCity

Did Michaelangelo compare Be-yawn-say to MJ and Oprah? You must be drunk. She’s popular, that’s different from being original or a game changer. She steals YET AGAIN. I stopped being a fan a long time ago. Just like she lies about her age, she’s lying about things she “created”. How about BEFORE the video begins to play state that “This was inspired by _______” instead of waiting until you get caught and confessing. Let’s not forget the original Single Ladies was done in 1969….see the link

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz7InzhwJTo

  4. The Hater

I don’t blame Beyonce at all. She is a puppet who performs whatever is given to her. She really isn’t a creative force. She is more actress than anything. She needs someone to write and direct for her.

She should be asking her people about how they got her into this mess.

  5. Not At Oils

Chile, this Beige Bitch can never get a break.

  6. aj

Typical Beyonce’ style…steal a song, dance, singing style etc. She should be making better decisions at this point..she has to have creative control so i blame her too not just her team or the director

  7. MichaelAngelo

I don’t understand. Artist do this all the time!! This is clearly a tribute to art in 60′s . It’s must be a slow news day.

    • nah

dude get your head out the clouds..it is not a tribute! It is a remake-make-it-her-own. If people never did there homework then something like this would be fresh brand new to people in the US, and would wow them! Its just like her performance at Billboard..I was amazed because I never seen it before..but after learning that it was something similiar and artist did overseas…then u cant help but ask ok..whats really going on. I wish artists these days were just original and not try to recreate things that were done in past

    • Debbi D

She took an artist work without their permission what part of that don’t you get?…I think this is easy to see….maybe you’ll get it if someone took your money without asking…or took your car without your permission… B has been in this entertainment business long enough to know what obtains…Have you noticed all of this plagarism started happening after she fired her father? I hope she gets better Mgt. because this new group is causing her to lose money.

  8. Soe

Beyonce is a singer who says she writes her own music but doesn’t, She says she’s creatively involved in everything that goes into her albums/songs/videos, but EVERY video she puts out are always similarities to other artist from long ago, She delves into the 80′s, 70′s 60′s so that her young crowd wont see her as a fake. This woman is not what I consider an artist. And as far as her trying to be an actress now.. when you act you cant steal from others, that has to come from within yourself.. Her acting is the movies shes done so far are ridiculous & laughable.

    • Jasmine

I agree but I also think Beyonce’s team are also to blame. The blatant copyrighting other people’s work is her being greedy for money, her lacking artistic creativity and her team / label going along with anything she says.

    • Nicole

Well said, its not Beyonce’s team its her, she known for stealing thats her MO, shes a virgo, earth sign, they stick to the same things, they dont change.

  9. Imagemakers

Im done! Everytime B does anything the inspiring artists come flying out of the wood works. She brought the dancing children all the way from the other side of the world, to dance in her video as thanks, and gets called a thief. She incorporates movements from a 30 yrs old performance piece and people call her a copycat! NEWSFLASH! You can only copy things people have seen the original of. The video is gorgeous and its shot in the best quality I have ever seen. She is a Pop Star, not a performance artist. At the end of the day Countdown is a dope ass song and the visuals are stunning.

  10. Dozeki

Please, if she were trying to rip the work off and pass it along as her own wouldn’t she be a little more subtle about it.
This chile has been blonde for 31 years and she’s only 30 years old, she changed her hair color and wore the exact same costumes to pay homage to the work, not try and pass it along as her own.

I think the choreographers fustration lies in perhaps the commercialization of her work, or the lack there of and thats really nto beyonces problem, sounds liker her beef is with pop culture in general, It’s nto really beyonces fault no one took the time to pay homage to her work or dance style until 30 years after the fact.

    • keepinitrealladies

I don’t know about that remember was it Neyo that had to sue her as well for not paying him for one of the hit songs he wrote for her. Hell I don’t think anything is wrong with using other people material I am sure its done all the time, but give them credit for the borrowed material and then make it your own.

  11. Strawberry Shortcake

I’m beginning to seriously think that Beyonce is either extremely arrogant and thinks that she can get away with things and will not get caught, or the woman has some serious mental problems. She keeps doing the same shit over and over (meaning, copying from other artists), and then want to know why her reputation gets put on the line. I mean, at what point do you come to realize, “Well, damn I better stop doing this shit. Not only is it disrespectful to my peers, but I can get into alot of trouble for it.” But, for some reason, she keeps doing it. Whatever happened to using common sense? It’s like she doesn’t care. Common sense is not hard, it’s very simple. But, she doesn’t seem to get it. Who keeps doing the same actions over and over knowing full well that it can get their ass into trouble? This is what makes me think that Beyonce has mental problems. If you can’t even understand common sense, then something is not right. SMH.

  12. MEAT & POTATOES

It’s not just her team that’s held responsible, I hold Beyonce responsible too. Isn’t she the main one always saying that she has full control over everything down to the last detail? So belive me, she knew about this stuff. Why does she keep doing it? I have no idea. But, her credibility is looking horrible at this point.

  13. MIA

Guys…. it was a inspiration…. I think it was ment to look just like the original? Or am I crazy? lololol…. WHATEVER BEYONCE! You go girl! I aint German! lolololol

    love yah CL xoxo

  14. Angela

I guess she started to realize that people are growing tired of the leotards and overused routines. You know there is a difference between being a beyonce fan and being delusional. She entertains the hell out of me, but anybody who can watch that and just say she’s ‘inspired’ needs their head examined. Beyonce needs to retire that word and hire a new team. Remember when she tried to claimed she wrote a song all by herself and Neyo had to come right on in..Stunt queen style. She changed her tune real quick. I don’t know if it’s just that beyonce is ignorant to what she’s doing..or she feels that she can do what she wants.

  15. Boogie

Inspiration or not, either way she has to acknowledge publically where she gets her ideas from… Her and her PR team do not say anything until all this drama comes out and that is the problem… most people when they saw the video when it first came out were say “oh this is one of her most awsome and original video” but it wasn’t as usually she was “inspired” by someone else and refused/ forgot to acknowledge the work of the inspiration….

  16. puleeze

i think that by now Beyonce and her ppl should understand that she is going to be scutinized all the time. Do things right from the beginning and they would not have anything to worry about.

  17. A

Ive lost all my respect to Beyonce with this.

You CANT copy the work from an artist from another country and release it your video like its something new.

    thats totally wrong.

and her team didnt even contact to that artist or at least mentioned her name, to let the general audience know her dance stuff.

Im an artist and know MANY artists from threare, modern and classic dance, so this has pissed me off so much.

Beyonce is a great entertainer and diva…

but Beyonce has lost her credibility.

  18. A

I cant edit my comment, so sorry for the mistakes.

    “Theatre”, and others…

  19. LadyA

She keeps being accused and the proof keeps being shown. Why are people denying the fact that she is a huge copy-cat? But she keeps being referred to as “The Pop Queen Bey”. Queen of what…fakeness!

  20. southern sway

This is crazy everyone does it so why is the focus only on her she is not the only one that use other people work even those people got inspiration from somewhere. I love Bey she is one of the best so its only right that she gets mojority of the hate. and yet still this will not break her the girl can care less what others may think she is richer then most of the people who hate her.

  21. Libby

Look people have a right to have their work credited period. There is a difference between inspiration and outright stealing. What Beyonce does is no more important that what this choreographer does. You would be mad too if your work showed up in a video with and credit. There is no reason why the video could not say based on original choreography Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. I wouldn’t not care who the artist was…

    • LadyA

Exactly! I would want to be credited especially when it would be a true passion and creative work, not just a series of steps that most of these entertainers execute. Usher has been accused also, so it is not just Bey. Bey just does it repeatedly with no shame, that’s why they keep bringing her name up.

    • anonymous

I guess ciara stole beyonce’s hair then.

  22. NAILSSTAYFLYNY

IDK, who steals more Beyonce or a crackhead!

    • Londyn

LMAO too funny…and so right! people keep saying she is paying homage blah, blah, blah…She’s not doing a damn thing but putting her name on it. Paying homage is also saying it as well…where you got your inspirations from. Not saying oh, this is all my ideas blah, blah, blah bullshaaaatttttt!!! that she always do…So Beyonce stans know the difference when your paying homage

  23. Toni

they should be thankful that they could even compare themselves to her in the first place. She just made it more popular than it has ever been and ever will be. DONE!

  24. welfarecase

it was an inspiration just like her new video love on top. all dance moves from the new edition if it isnt love video… she should haves asked the original artist first though

  25. mon

damn beyonce is a runaway thief she will steal yo shit and run to the bank lmao

  26. dannybro

I am so sick in tired of people hating on BEYONCE or speaking negative about her. I know beyonce wasn’t trying to steal anyhing. but if anything she was paying Homage. People don’t realize if you do something like someone else did it; it mean you liked it and you paying Homage by trying to reinvent it but still keep it in it’s original content. while eveyone want BEYONCE to sit down; IT’S NOT GONNA HAPPEN LOL!!!! (IN MY CHRIS BROWN VOICE–HA HA!!!!!)

  27. Jessica

While people complain and diss Beyonce, what about Nicki, Gaga, Rhianna, Kayne, I can go on each one- THEN ALL OF THEM STOLE!!! Kayne- TOUCH THE SKY: evel knievel

Nicki: SUPERBASS, MASSIVE ATTACK, ROMAN’S REVENGE- SUPERBASS: LIL KIM – NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY, MASSIVE ATTACK-CRUSH ON YOU- THE HAIR COLORS, ROMAN’S REVENGE- BUSTA RHYMES

GAGA: BORN THIS WAY- MADONNA- VOGUE
    JUDAS-MADONNA LIKE A PRAYER
GAGA- GRACE JONES : ALL THE OUTFITS

RHIANNA: HARD – TINA TURNER- THUNDERDOME
S&M: A FRENCH DESIGNER IN WHICH SHE DID GOT SUED AND WENT TO COURT.

Look I can go on every artist who came out and stole something or whatever people are on here are saying that Beyonce in the whole entire planet only stole, GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! I’m not a stan of hers or a biggest fan, long if the music is good, I’m all for it. People relax your damn ass self!!! Is those people paying you to bash Beyonce?? If not SHUT UP!!!!

  28. Smooth

Let me understand when Chris Brown, Usher, and a ton of other artist see Michael Jackson, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, ect. and became inspired with those who came before them and implements their dance moves in their dances routine. Why doesn’t that cause issues. Or how tons of other artist are inspired by a videos are scenes from movies because a movie has inspired them. People this has been happening for years. Beyonce is an artist who gets inspiration from things around her and she implements those things in her work. Many artist have implemented scenes from Scarface, Godfather, and many other movies. Artist have remade intire songs of other artist. People stop hating on that woman. The song is original. The video was inspired by the choreography in a 1980 Belgian film. She liked them and put her own flavor to it. She saw the greatness in the choreography. The actual choreographor is not upset so why should anyone else be. That doesn’t take away the fact the Beyonce is super talented. She’s nice at what she does period. Stop hating people.

    • QueenSafira

Becuz with Chris Brown and ‘em always state that yeah they are inspired by these people and we as a viewing public most likely can tell which moves originally belonged to the greats.
But when take something that is relatively unknown and do not implicitly state that it is not yours then everyone is under theassumption that the star and their team is created it. There is no reason that she couldnt state that the choreographhy was by so and so. At the beginning of the video. Not in some random article that most probably wont read.

    • keepinitrealladies

AMEN @ QUEENSAFIRA her fans or so quick to defend her actions, they are not thinking before commenting. @ SMOOTH Nothing wrong with using other ppl material F**k homage just acknowledge where you got it from, and give credit where credit is do, like Usher and CB and others you named.

  29. laronteking

people only care because its beyonce. smh at people calling her a theif. i guess its only stealing when youre more popular than the person you got it from. how many times have you seen people moonwalk without mentioning micheal jackson? and i think yall are making shit up when you say you heard someone say “beyonce is so original”. no one who knows who beyonce is would ever say that. how many covers has she sang over the years. how many dances has she said shes gotten from this person and that country. either way beyonces pr team needs to step it up because shes catching a lot of hell for no reason. she is easily the most hated woman in entertainment and that is absurd considering the fact that shes never expressed a single opinion on anything that matters.

    • emily

EXACTLY!!! People wanna blame the fans for their hatred towards Beyonce when we’ve done nothing wrong.
I don’t recall anyone saying she was original, or invented anything. The non-fans come up with these lame excuses and use them to justify themselves smh

  30. jasmine

    HUGH SIGH (UHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHH)

  31. TAC

Beyonce is black trash who happened to have money. She may be talented but she’s as dumb as a door knob.

    • keepinitrealladies

She is a long way from being ‘BLACK TRASH”, that is so tacky of you to call her that…she is a very talented lady. Many of us are just saying she should acknowledge the artist, choreographer or whomever it may be when you borrow material.

    • anonymous

Are you jealous. Even I dont own dance moves.

  32. emily

CL is trying to keep up with the other blogs. PERIOD. Anything involving Beyonce ALWAYS draws attention, good or bad, so I don’t blame them for putting this post up. Angel’s gotta get paid!

That being said, once I read this elsewhere, I KNEW these comments were gonna made. As a Beyonce fan/stan (whatever), I myself am getting too tired of this constant plagiarism. There’s inspiration and then there’s THEFT. This video is a REPLICA of the Belgian choreographer’s own…down to the outfits.
Now I’m not saying Beyonce is the only one who “copies”…. I could make a list of other artists who have swaggerjacked practically everyone throughout their career but Beyonce is too famous and talented for this. Which is why hers is forever exposed. She needs to chill and 1) either get permission before using people’s ideas 2) at least try and make it hers…3) FIND A BETTER TEAM WHO’S MORE CREATIVE!!!

  33. think people!!

I Believe Beyonce Does This To Remain Relevant. There Is Absolutely No Way She Can Continue Stealing People’s Ideas Without The Aim Of Gaining Something From It. At First, I Praised Her For Bringing ‘Ancient’ And International Art To This Generation But Now It Seems Like That’s The Furthest Thing From Her Mind. All She Wants Is Publicity; As Long As People Keep Talking About Her, She’s Satisfied
So These Accusations Don’t Phase Her Or Her Team, I’m Pretty Sure Her Next Video Will Be A Rip-Off Of Something Else. The Sad Part Is She’s Got Talent: That Should Be Enough But With People Like Rihana Who Are Perfect Examples Of How Talent Is Irrelevant In The Music Industry Are Getting Numerous Publicity, Beyonce Has To Find Ways Of Getting People To Remember Her

  34. Nina B

What I don’t UNDERSTAND is why she needs to COPY these moves in the first place? There is nothing special about them, that ONE cannot come up with something similar, even BETTER? Confused.

  35. OVERYOURHEADS

The comments by the ORIGIONAL choreographer are awesome! I love how she neither praises or insults Beyonce. I have never really been a Beyonce fan but have started to try and like her a little more and not just dimiss her because it is sometimes be popular to do so. With that being said, the multiple occurences of her “inspiration” are downright horrible. She and her team need to EDUCATE themselves and go through the proper legal channels to use other CREATIVE people’s IDEAS. That is what an informed business woman does!

  36. MYMILKSHAKEBRINGSIT

    WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. dee dee

Beyonce thinks she is so rich and powerful that she does not have to be accountable for ripping off the artistic works of others. That’s why she is always getting sued. What’s more is that she’s a fool to think that the the public believes that anything she does is of her own creation. The only thing real about her is her voice. The sad thing is that if she would only go about it the right way, stop saying you wrote the song when you bought the song from someone else who wrote it, stop passing other peoples work off as your own, just admit it, up front – her fans would still like her just as much, but they would also respect her for being truthful. Fans are not stupid, we know people buy songs from professional writers and dance moves are borrowed all the time. Why the effort to front like you’re some kind of creative genius? She’s a fraud.

  38. MayneTayn

Damn! Be more creative Beyonce. Your too talented to be a duplicate.

there is nothing wrong with using another artists’ work, but if they are still alive, the proper thing would be to ask them or let them know u r using their dance or art. so when u do not ask or at least let them know u r using it, then it is stealing. she didn’t ask Eartha Kitt if she could sing “at last’ for the presidential party and there has been so many other songs, choreography and ideas that she has STOLE, because she doesn’t ever ask first or consult with the artist that she is taking from, so then it is stealing. thieves don’t ask or let u know they r coming. they just take and use other people things, therefore beyonce is a thief.

Eartha Kitt is dead.No offense intended. How could she possibly ask her? If she was alive i’m sure she would have been perfectly fine. jen Hudson didn’t ask Winnie mandela if it was ok to portray her in a move documentary. Where is the post on that?

  40. S

THATS WHATS WRONG WITH BEYONCE, SHE THINKS SHE CAN STEAL AND CALL IT “PAYING TRIBUTE” SORRY SWEETIE BUT ITS STEALING. I MEAN REALLY WHO DOES BEYONCE THINK SHE IS? BEYONCE NEEDS TO SNATCH THAT PILLOW FROM UP UNDER HER SHIRT AND GO SIT ON IT, WITH HER STEALING, LYING, SMILING, FAKE ASS. HOW ABOUT CL POST THOSE PICS OF THAT FAKE BABY BUMP FOLDING AND COLLAPSING DURING HER INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!

  41. ELISA

BEYONCE IS CAUGHT UP IN HER FANTASY WORLD THAT SHE REALLY BELIEVES US IN THE “REAL” WORLD ARE STUPID SMH. EVEN TO THE POINT WHERE SHE THOUGHT SHE COULD PULL OF A FAKE BABY BUMP. WHO IN THE HELL ARE THE PEOPLE ON HER TEAM. SEEMS LIKE HER MOTHER WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED OTHERWISE, BUT HELL THAT ALL FAKE

  42. Zack

I think some people are forgetting that Rihanna copied an ENTIRE photoshoot for her S&M video right down to the wallpaper on the walls. It’s funny how everyone is running round saying Bey is a thief. Even if she was, at least she clever enough not to get her ass sued like Rihanna.

  43. ELISA

THE PHOTO OF BEYONCE IN THE BIKINI DOESN’T EVEN LOOK LIKE A TRUE BUMP. IT SEEMS MORE LIKE A SHE DRANK A GALLON OF WATER AND WAS BLOATED. REAGARDLESS OF WHATEVER IT IS, SHE CLEARLY HAD A FAKE BUMP DURING THE INTERVIEW

    • YAWN

      You’re an idiot, simple.
You did not notice anything wrong with that picture until MTO started this fake belly bs. I’m so disgusted at the level of ignorance ADULTS are displaying. It’s like when it comes to Beyonce, people automatically lose their senses and start acting foolish. How can she poke her belly out that much for THAT LONG??? Beyonce’s stomach is toned and extremely FLAT. No matter how much she “poked” it out, it couldn’t have been that big. Just stop
Yawn at this copying issue AGAIN. Nothing new

That’s what you call looking fabulous while pregnant. Not all of us can do it so gracefully.

  44. Nae

Are yall stupid? Everything comes from something before!!! I mean look at the clothes we wear, it all happened before. So the world is a copycat of each other. Get a life please!! Find something else to talk about. If you dont like the video turn the channel.

    • SO WHAT

We can say the same thing about you “Are you stupid”. If you don’t like the comments close the webpage. Everyone knows how the world runs.

  45. Dominique

Bey should just stop “paying homage” to people cause this apparently does not work for her, or at least ask these people for their permission I’m surprised she hasn’t been sued yet, or has she?

  46. Cree

Any BITCH who is pregnant and sits down, leaning forward while her stomach folds in half; as an ISSUE! I don’t care who it is. It could be Beyonce, you or ya mama, something is definitely WRONG. The stans need to get over themselves and look at what is OBVIOUS. No one is making any of this shit up. Beyonce stans find every excuse in the world for her, even when its plain as day. If it smells like shit, its shit.

  47. Heemi

Yeah, she stay bitting people. I guess she’s to busy to put together an original concept.

  48. Omgsojas

Why all the fuss? Last time I checked Beyonce said this whole album including the videos are inspired by all the things she got the opportunity to see on her year off?

    • SweeTie

You are so right…it is clear everyone loves this chick because she always gets the most hits when there is a post about her…Go Beyonce

  49. RAB

Damn I swear the CIA don’t interrogates people as much as the media interrogates Beyonce

  50. V-Nessa

Damn this like the ”insert number here” time now? smh

Bey is amazing but where’s the originality? It been said numerous amount of times in the past. I.e Run The World performance etc. Music and videos are not how they use to be. Nobody works on their craft and they just copy, copy, copy.

  51. Tia

Beyonce has been stealing people’s shit for the longest….over 80 percent of the songs on her last two albums, are stolen. And don’t just take my word for it, look it up. One girl by the name of alisha, even posted proof on her website. Beyonce as well as Madonna who both had the same entertainment lawyers have both been taken to court over copyright issues. A producer in Houston even had to take both beyonce and her father to court over some music. Her fans can defend beyonce all they want, but at the end of the day, beyonce has a long history as being a theft. That DVD that she released with all those low budget videos were are copyed from a indie artist. ( that’s the reason why they were low budget….beyonce tried to pass this video as her own point blank. And if you have a history of being sued for stuff like this, common sence would tell you to give credit where it is due..this could of been prevented..

People grow a brain! If you aren’t the first and you grew up watching and mimicking someone you copied them. End of story, period. Beyonce is basically a target because of her fame. The chick wants to get her name out there and Beyonce is the perfect way to do it. Be truthful because of Beyonce most of us sort of know who this person is now. Before it was, who are you??? Everyone copies other artist. If you want to get technical, all the white, asian, Latino, Arab, Indian, Pacific Islanders etc… singers and rappers that perform Jazz, Rap, R&B, Soul (hehe that’s funny!) Pop, Rock, Dance, Disco, and Trance music copy or stole from black people. Do you hear us complaining? Well I am, but the most the youngsters aren’t. But why is it if we come to them for inspiration that they start blowing the whistle? Wake up! They don’t like you as well as you think they do! We as community are still so much in the slave mentality we don’t know it, and we help bring our own down for harmless references but they out and out steal and we start, Yes sir and Massaing all over again. Also for the record Michael Jackson did give honor to where honor was do. We just didn’t know about it. The ones who inspired him know and that’s all that matters.

  54. Jv Xiong

Beyonce can’t do anything right she only steals songs and dance moves… so she is a lame and not made of fame, the choreographer should be getting the money and her fame instead of her lame… so Beyonce F off

  55. Jv Xiong

also when she was copying des’ree’s song… she FKing sucks at singing…
