It’s been over 3 months since Monica and Shannon Brown tied the knot and jumped the broom. In an exclusive interview with Essence.com, the couple shared a bit about their love for each other, how much Shannon’s mom adores Monica and whether she sees them ever embarking on a reality television show of their own:
Monica is a ‘traditional wife’:
I cook for him. He can cook, but I don’t think he should have to. I’m a traditional wife in every since. I like the fact that he cleans his plate. That’s a southern thing. I’m from Georgia. When we grew up, our uncles finished off your plate and theirs, you know. I love the fact that he likes to talk to me while I cook. It’s not like I have these lonely hours where I’m in the kitchen. We talk while I’m cooking and he’ll ask for things a particular way. He’s a big fan of garlic and different seasonings so I had to learn to use the ones that he likes. I like it because it’s just another chance for us to communicate and to talk about what’s happened in our day. We talk about what practice was like or what my day was like.On how they keep things passionate:
That’s so easy for us, I don’t know where to start. The best lingerie I have, Vanessa Bryant gave it to me. She is the biggest fan of La Perla and she goes into those stores a lot. Every time I would open one of her gifts, Shannon was like “yeah” and he’d start clapping for that gift. Sometimes he likes when I’m just in his t-shirt or his jersey.On her new mother-in-law’s adoration for her:
His mom loves her baby, but what’s so amazing about my mother-in-law is that she says I wanted someone to love my baby the way I love him, for him, whether he’s playing ball or doing something else; I want someone to love my son through and through and she met me and she said, “you’re the real deal.” [Source]

She said she is a traditional wife…that’s how we do it in the south still…we take care of our men as long as he brings home the bacon, she’ll cook it up in a pan and never ever ever forget he’s her man…lol…Yea she has her own bacon money but she spending his too.

This just might be true even though I’m 24, from an outsider looking in I think if we still had a lot more traditional marriages today there would be fewer conflict in the marriage/family. Husband and wife had a specific role that worked together, today I think the norm is where the wife is trying to do almost everything.

This is sweet. When she talks about cooking for her husband it seems more like it is a bonding experience for them both rather than “traditional”. I thought a ‘traditional wife’ is basically bringing back the 1950s style marriage, where a wife does cook and ALSO doesn’t work outside the home among other sacrifices. If you talked to her more I am sure that she has adopted some “modern” women’s rights values, the obvious one being that she works outside of the home. The interview clips sound genuinely sweet but I wonder why the conversation was edited like this, sort of reminds me of a Mad Men episode?
