MAG FEATURE: FRANK OCEAN NAMED GQ’S ‘ROOKIE OF THE YEAR’

November 28th, 2011

With a successful mixtape and a sold out international tour, Frank Ocean has been selected as GQ’s Rookie of the Year. The 24-year-old filmed a mini-interview with GQ’s Amos Barshad and talked everything from his hobbies, to why the color orange is favorite color, to what he has learned musically and non-musically from Kanye West and Jay-Z:

“The one non-musical thing that I learned from working with Kanye is that you should always choose your sneakers wisely.” [...] “Musical thing that I learned from Jay-Z, ‘Less takes is sometimes more.’”

See what else the singer-songwriter had to say after the jump!

Agree. He’s a talented dude. I hate that he is mixed up in that gay clique of Kanye & Jay-Z. Watch out dude, unless that’s your thing…

A really talented dude… I’m scared to death of him losing that hunger though. Money makes some artists lazy… Don’t be one of them Frank. Remember to make GOOD music…

Dude looks like Kanye in the first pic. I dig his simple, honest vocals. Will definitely check out his LP

Still creeps me out, i would listen to his music, but his affiliation with tyler and what he’s “about” leaves me unable to, i can’t get down with someone who is “happy” with an album where the “rapper” is talking about raping a pregneant women, and then has 3 6′s plastered all over thier twitter, just can’t do it

I am so old school.. I haven’t heard a track from him yet.. The closest I’ve come to hearing him, is his feature on Watch the Throne.

I’ve never heard his music but I can say that the pic of him in that tux is fire. His expression is blase and come get me all at once. Like, “Come over here, girl, right damn now.” I’m not one for young dudes but he could probably get it one time. Right.
