It looks like “Ego” with a hint of “Freakum Dress” and “Check Up On It”. I understand what she was trying to convey through the video because of what the song is about. But, she just comes across as a stripper to me in this video. The dancing was hard and so “extra”. The barely there clothing and the over the top gyrating was just way too much for me. There is nothing epic or ground breaking because we’ve seen it all before. Everyone keeps saying that she looks “classy” in this, but I feel like we’re looking at two different videos, because it’s nowhere near classy to me. But hey, to each his own, right?

No one can deny Beyonce’s talent. The lady can sing enough the most difficult of notes with effortless perfection. And she can also move well. Here’s the problem though: while she shows great variety with her vocals, her dancing leaves a lot to be desired. As someone else mentioned, we’ve seen the majority of these moves before, used in similar ways, in videos for Crazy in Love, Check On It, Video Phone, Sugar Mama, End of Time live performance, and the list goes on. Sex most certainly sells but so does art, and while the quality of the video with its 1930s, pinup-whodunit theme was artistic and fitting, for me, the oversexed, typical Beyonce moves cheapened the artistry.
I could not agree with you more. And to add to that, not only was the choreography a bit cheap, it’s all stuff she’s done before. At this point, I think she should seriously consider hiring other choreographers from time to time. She doesn’t necessarily need to fire Sheryl Murakami or Frank Gatson, but she needs new ideas and fresh blood to expand her repertoire.

I’m a little dissapointed with this video for several reasons:
- The song isn’t that great, I thought it was more of an album filler and the video doesn’t really sell it
- There is no story to the video. Who was the middle aged white man? He didn’t look very interested in what she was doing. I am assuming she is a call girl of some sort which comes across as tasteless to me
- The fact that she is pregnant and gyrating and showing close-up shots of her crotch is awkward and kinda disturbing(Even if she really “isn’t showing” as some put it)
Well…that’s my 2 cents. I think the album is impressive, however, she might want to re-brand her overly sexual image as she embarks on this new phase in her life.
Beyonce is a superstar, no one can ever take that from her……however…..at this point in her “established” career she can tone it down.
