Love the song, but not feeling the visual. Why must we glorify strippers? I don’t remember any of my friends stripping their way through college and neither did I, SMDH.
rap is just lame these days. Miss the early 90′s. Heavy D woulda had this slamming. These dude is abstract rappers, you gotta fill in the blanks and ish
I get it. I am glad that I didn’t have to strip to make my way through college and grad school!.
I heart the song but the video could have been a little bit more inspiring since your talking about AMBITION!!!
I agree w most of you yet I also understand..
Part 2 of the song with J.Holiday sounds better. Just like the Lotus Flower Bomb video. The songs are great, but the videos and visuals are sub-par.
Ok. I read somewhere that Wale is supposed to be an “advocate” for women. Really? Why choose to use a stripper as the ambitous girl? I understand some people choose that path, but to glorify it? There are other ways to make money in college. I am kinda disappointed, but not really. This is hip hop, after all. Where are the TRULY positive artists? More than likely underground, never to be heard mainstream. They would be too powerful.
I agree, strippers are always glorified even in songs that are suppose to be positive and supporting women. Underground is where it’s at.
i think he’s using the stripper job as to how the girl is using that quick money to pay for college funds. I mean is the girl suppose to be in college if so she could have used that to help pay.
there are other, more respectable ways to make quick money. -_- I honestly expected SO much more from this video.
Wow . This is the third new video that i seen this week from WALE. I like it
The reality of the situation and vid are true. If ur in college than your in class all DAY and there aren’t too many NIGHT jobs that is going to pay enough to pay for college. Unless u plan on getting 3 credits a semester ~ ur dumb ass gonna be in college the rest of your life. And there is NOTHING wrong with stripping…it’s an HONEST way of making a living. HATERS, man!!
I think some of yall missed the point that there are 2 different females in the video! On the real im not mad at anyone of these women in this video because there both bettering themselves! The stripper way aint for everyone but why should we judge her for it? She comes home after long nites and still makes it to class! She is a hustler!
Dang I was feeling the video until the other girl came in the room with her stripper outfit WT…like why don’t you have the chick with a Mcdonald’s hat come in and change her work clothes to her school clothes and picks up a textbook in business or medical school book…A STRIPPER?!! I’m tired of the same crap they ain’t that Ambitious if they can’t get a decent job still stripping after 2yrs…
i like the song.
videos like this remind that no matter how much a rapper may look like he’s intelligent/conscious they still fall into that trap. most women don’t strip to support themselves and attend college, it’ just a rapper’s fantasy…f8ck “players club” for ever putting that out there!!
anyway…
I agree OK. I went to college and didn’t strip. All the time I was at the university I knew only one female that stripped. Most of the females got a combination of financial aid, part time jobs and parental assistance. At my university there are more females than there are males attending and there’d be WAY too many strip clubs if everyone was stripping lol! I guess it isn’t as sexy to show the woman living at home with her family while she finishes her education….or the female working at the university bookstore and stacking up loans to pay for her classes…or the female that attends community college first to transfer over to the university of her choice cause it is cheaper. My boyfriend once said he didn’t know why rappers always talked about being in the strip club, why didn’t they date college girls. Maybe Wale is trying to cross over? Ha. (male) Rappers seem to have a lovehate OBSESSION with the stripper archetype. If they can’t use strippers in their songs then how will they ever be able to write about women?! (that was a joke)
I graduated in 2009 and danced from my sohpmore year up until this year I am now a high school teacher. I teach principals of business. No……working at Mcdonalds or Walmart wasnt going to cut it for me, SORRY for every one who thinks that would have been good enough…..I had class everyday so that I could graduate in 3yrs working for 7-8 dollars thats not even smart just to prove a point that I have morals!!! Dancing when your not doing extra and getting caught up in the club life is not Easy at all you are in a very competive enviorment you have to know how to hustle, be on volume 10 ( smileing all night ) all the girls may not be in the right frame of mind meaning on drugs, may have a pimp, jealous of the one’s who make money so they like to fight, your dealing with all types of spirits….. so there is nothing easy about it actually becomeing a good entertainer takes practice and time its not just about taking your clothes off you have to know how to keep someones attention….there is always some one who has a better body, looks better, knows the guys better , I dont regret dancing at all!!!!
and you’re point is????
I understand where you’re coming from but stripping to get by is nothing to be proud of. Would you want your daughter to do that to get by? I graduated with a BS degree and had two part-time jobs and still maintained.
I completely understand where you are coming from. Everyone is trying to demean you for putting yourself through school when you should be commended. There is nothing wrong with stripping to pay for school, heck I might do it to pay for medical school. I don’t think people fully understand the amount of debt they will be in once they graduate. Things look greener on the other side until you realize the stripper is living better than you because she did what she had to do.
It is coo that he wrote a song to TRY to encourage women but I’ve given up looking for rappers to motivate me as a woman a loooong time ago. I didn’t think it was necessary to put other women down to praise the college student. That is my opinion though. Mainstream rap usually ignore females with “morals” (although having morals is subjective) and they usually give mixed messages to women. Male rappers seem to be so focused on the stripper/ho/groupie image of a woman that even in a motivational song they still have to find a way to include it. Not mad about it, it’s true some women do support their education like this and maybe the song will help some people. The truth though is women have been good and “independent” and “ambitious” way before mainstream rap culture recognized this type of woman. I know I may sound harsh. I actually don’t want to discourage Wale’s well meaning song but what does a male rapper know about a woman’s life at all? For that reason I take their “advice” good and bad with a grain of salt. If he wants to put a stripper in the video and praise her for going to college, fine, but I already know his story is a man’s point of view trying to look in on women.
I think that this video was made with the intent to spark discussion and debate. Given the comments here, I would say the video accomplished that mission. The fact is, the images in the video do reflect a reality that some students face. It’s just a perspective that he as an artist decided to shine a light on. If you feel strongly about the video, think of ways you can help change the image or bring light to a different perspective. Don’t just talk about it, be about it.
DMV Representahh. New track ft Drake. listennn.

I would wager that if you qualify to strip, you qualify for financial aid. i’m just sayin’….
#cosign…so sick of Wale talking about uplifting women and still call us bitchers and hoes. I know one person isn’t going to be in the same “mood” all the time but he seems to think a bit highly of himself. Five minute time out to think about it Wale \_ <<<here's your seat!
I was actually eager to hear this song after seeing the title but after watching video, felt like same crappy music. Wale is garbage and he’s killing hip hop along with all the other mainstream rappers. Underground hip hop is where it’s at.
so where are the signing artists i have a brother with good singing skills and that is his dream to make it far in the singing game if anybody wants to help please send a email or post a comment alfonzo12myers@gmail.com
Wow there are some self-righteous women on this blog smh

I don’t understand why everybody is so upset the stripper is an ambitious girl. I for one praise her for going to school, you guys don’t understand. I’d rather strip and be debt free than take out thousands of dollars worth of loans. While you guys work hard trying to scrap money together to pay off your loans, the stripper is living at ease because she doesn’t have to worry about paying anyone back. Think about that before you start judging someone for how they pay for tuition.
Besides the cursing and the video I like it…OKKK…
I’m a College student, I’m not a stripper. GO GIRL. GO GIRL. GO GIRL. GO ME. AMBITION!
