It’s been over a month since 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley was reported missing from her Glendale, Arizona, apartment. Her mother, Jerice Hunter, was arrested on Monday on a felony count of child abuse following a police interview with Jhessye’s 13-year-old sister who said her mother told her to lie about Jhessye’s disappearance, kept her in a closet and that Jhessye had cuts and bruises before she was reported missing.
Jhessye was reportedly last seen Oct. 11 after Hunter said she left her in the care of her older siblings while she ran an errand. Although a polygraph has been offered to Hunter numerous times, authorities say she’s been uncooperative. In a press conference following Hunter’s arrest, Sergeant Brent Coombs said “with the information that has come to our investigators in the past few days, we do not believe that it will be likely that we will find Jhessye alive”.
On Tuesday, Hunter appeared in court and continued to maintain her innocence before the judge ordered her to be held on a $100,000 bond because of her history of child abuse and the severity of the charge against her. According to her teenage daughter, Hunter kept Jhessye in a bedroom closet and deprived her of food and water and had seen her younger sister with “black eyes and bruises and cuts to her face and body”.
As the search continues for Jhessye, the $25,000 reward pertaining to information surrounding her disappearance remains as it’s “extremely important to us to bring that person or those persons to justice that are responsible for her disappearance”. Sergeant Coombs stressed that “investigators still work diligently to find Jhessye” and that her mother “is our No. 1 focus”. View the Glendale Police Department press conference below.

I knew that “mama” had something 2 do with it. She served 3 years for beating up her kids! She just got out and what do u know.one of her kids goes missing! Not shocked at all. She should have NEVER gotten custody of those kids again period.

If she didn’t want kids, she shouldnt have had them. Shes probably on assistance and only sees them as a check. I’m all for regulating the number of kids people assistance can have or cut the money off at two. Sad.

Then she added icing on the cake by saying the media was being racist because her child’s case wasn’t getting any attention which could of caused even more racial tension in America! Shame on her. If she is guilty of killing her own child, which is highly probable, she will be reminded daily that child killers don’t make it in prison….
A baby. I am fed up with this! I just wish I had enough money and space to take these unwanted babies in. That includes teens too. They don’t have to be treated this way…I’m really TICKED right now!

I agree with you. I wish I could provide a home for all the unwanted children. Why hurt them and damage them like that? I hope they find this little girl and take the other children away from this sick person! How did she get them back in the first place is beyond me!

THIS IS VERY SAD!!!! WHY WOULD SHE NOT VOLUNTEER INFO TO THE POLICE SO THAT THE POLICE AND SEARCHERS CAN FIND HER CHILD IN A TIMELY MANNER. SHE’S HAS TO BE GUILTY OF SOMETHING.

This is beyond tragic! I live in AZ and have been praying for this child daily. The entire community has been caught up in this evil web of deceit and more importantly, an innocent child has once again suffered unimaginable pain at the hands of main person on earth who is supposed to love and comfort her! We as a nation have to protect our children, our FUTURE! from these evil and sick individuals who have no regard for others. The legal system, police, CPS and family of Jhessye failed her and all have blood on their hands. Lord,bless Jhessye with a new life and may her hellish life on earth not be in vain. I pray for her sisters who have also been abused. We can’t just report abuse and be done with it, we have to hold the people who are supposed to protect and serve accountable and be vigilant until we know the victim is out of harms way.
Another beautiful DEFENSLESS child possibly dead, at the hands of her own mother, the only thing I can find peace in is that we thankfully WILL NOT have another Casey Anthoney trial to deal with, you my dear are a BLACK woman lol, her ass will under that jail by next week *cheers*
