VIBE Vixen is starting the year off with actress Tracee Ellis Ross on the cover of their December/January issue. Ross poses casually in a printed tee and black jeans and shares how she balances the roles of producer and playing Carla on BET’s Reed Between the Lines inside the revived magazine:
VV: Is it difficult balancing your role as producer with starring in the show?
ROSS: I wouldn’t say difficult, but it’s definitely makes for a long day. But it is the kind of full plate that I adore. I adore this kind of work and it’s very rewarding. The producer role very much plays into the kind of person I am. In the evolution of my career it is a really exciting step for me because I am the kind of creative person that has a real opinion about the kind of images that I want to portray and want in the public in general. So having a seat at the table with the many voices that is part of the collaborative art of television is really and exciting and wonderful for me.
VV: Let’s talk about your style. Before when we spoke, you mentioned that some of the pieces from Girlfriends would find their way into Carla’s wardrobe. What’s the inspiration? Do you work with designers or find things out and about?
ROSS: It’s stuff that’s been found out and about. The way I went about Joan and Carla is I always ask myself who this woman is. Every once in a while people say Carla is so much like Joan, and I’m like, ‘People, Tracee plays both people.’ So what you’re seeing that’s the same between Carla and Joan is not Carla being like Joan, but it’s Tracee. Tracee was Joan and Tracee is Carla. It’s so funny people don’t understand that, it makes me laugh. [Source]
Of course she was asked about the usual Cosby Show comparisons and simply said, “We are in no way, shape or form trying to be a new Cosby Show. What we are doing is taking the recipe of what Cosby did, which was a family show that was timeless and good, and use those elements.”
The full interview will available on December 19th on VibeVixen.com. Interesting Fact: Tracee graced VIBE Vixen back in 2006 for their September issue.Time flies!
Love HER look , with the natural H A I R !
She’s half white so, I doubt she has any problem with wearing her hair natural…
WOW…IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY HAS A HIGH POWERED BLOW DRYER, BLOWING HER LIFE BACK. ****WOOOOOOOOOOOOSH**** BACKDRAFT! LMAO!
she’s so beautiful its crazy.
That cover looks terrible. She looks like she just came from a hard workout. I’m sorry to sound mean, but what is she wearing? I love her natural hair but it look HAM here. I think its because of the fan, however I don’t like it. I prefer sophisticated and elegant Tracee. This is not right.
@Hi Haters: If you were born in the 80′s you will know the group called The Police- it’s Sting group, they had a song that Diddy sampled ” Every Breath I Take” for the 1997 track “I’ll be Missing You” ft Faith Evans for Biggie when he passed. The Police was huge in the 80′s. Anyways, I love that T-Shirt, I would rock that, it’s vintage!!! Tracee looks good dressing up or dressing down, that’s how you know she’s down to earth.
Jessica shut up. I know who the band is, she just look HAM on that cover. Not a good look.
Why are you getting mad?? SMH!!! What wrong with her clothes? What do you want her to be naked?? SMH.
Clearly you cant read. In my initial comment I stated “I prefer sophisticated and elegant Tracee” not hanging out at mall Tracee. She looks HAM imo!
no comment
I like her dressing up or down, but I have to admit that I am not in love with this cover. They could have done a better job with it. They could have used the pic the “pap” took of her last week or so. She was dressed down with Jordans on and a Berkin (hopefully I am spelling it correctly) bag. That was hot!!!! Not this though…
