Whatever you do, do not call Frank Ocean an R&B singer. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter is featured in the December 2011 issue of the Italian publication, L’Uomo Vogue. With his shots done by none other than Nabil Elderkin (who also directed his “Swim Good” music video), Mr. Ocean spoke candidly on being labeled an R&B singer, how it felt to change his legal birth name and how things will change once he’s elected president (yes, the President of the United States):
On being labeled an R&B artist:
“I’ll usually cringe at the R&B label. Because it’s like calling it urban…and what the fuck is urban music?”
On the state of politics today:
“My generation just doesn’t have the best taste in leadership. And weak leadership means little to no cohesion. If there’s no cohesion, there’s no real chance for effective protest or politics. Obviously, looking at Occupy Wall Street, there are a few in our bunch who still give a damn enough to rally and shout. This will change once I’m elected President.” [Source]

‘Tis the season to be jolly! Earlier this week, Kelly Rowland sang alongside jazz crooner Michael Bublé and soul a capella group, Naturally 7 in their performance of “White Christmas” on the ITV show, Michael Bublé: Home For Christmas. Kelly looks great in white! Werk.
Earlier this week, news broke that Dr. Maya Angelou wasn’t too pleased about Common using the n-word on their collaborated track, “The Dreamer.” The legendary author contributed a poem to Common track, but had no idea that the Chicago-native would be using the term so loosely. (VIEW POST)
On the same day, Common stopped by BET’s 106th & Park to promote his newest album, The Dreamer, The Believer. What he didn’t know was that Maya Angelou would be calling in to address the stories about her reaction. What did she have to say? Peep the video below to hear her wise words. Random note: Common’s facial expression in the video made him look scared and nervous at the same time! LOL Continue
After writing the self-help book, True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself, Janet Jackson has decided to use her personal experience to motivate women to conquer their battle with weight gain. How is she doing this you ask? By stepping forward as the newest spokesperson for Nutrisystem!
A few days ago, Janet stopped by ABC’s Good Morning America and revealed why she decided to be the face and body of the popular weight loss program:
“It’s a matter of learning how to keep it off, that maintenance and they have a program for that. My success plan is to just be healthy and feel good about me. All of us, we have that one pair of jeans that we have a relationship with…I’m able to look in the mirror. I couldn’t do that before. I’m very grateful to be able do what I love most, what I really feel I’m was here to do and that’s to help others.”
A few photos from her photoshoot were released earlier this week and Janet looks great! Check out her official commercial for the diet program below as well. I must say, Ms. Jackson has been glowing and looking very happy lately! I’m sure the new boo, Wissam Al Mana had a little part in this, too. *smiles*
