Remember the original Aunt Viv on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air back in the day? Well actress Janet Hubert has NOT gotten over how she was fired off the popular 90s television sitcom. Above all, she is still holding her grudge against actor Will Smith and according to TMZ, she still resents Smith after all these years:
There will never be a reunion … as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith. He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.
Damn. According to Aunt Viv, Will turned on her and got her fired in the middle of the show’s run for not feeding his ego or behaving in a groupie-like manner. Just last week, a majority of the Fresh Prince cast reunited at a charity event, with the exception of Hubert (of course), Daphne Reid (the 2nd Aunt Viv) and Joseph Marcell (the butler, Geoffrey) missing from the picture.
Check out this video from last year where Janet Hubert recalls about how immature Will was on set and how she wasn’t into the then 22-year-old’s hip-hop lifestyle, saying sarcastically, “If you want me to kiss your @$$, then you had to put it in my contract.”

I do not think she should just “get over it.” Being fired from a hit television show is humiliating, especially if that was the real reason behind it. I liked Janet as Vivian much more than I liked the replacement Vivian. From her point of view she is probably thinking she would not get anything from a reunion but I bet she would have done the reunion if Will had reached out. I’m not saying Will should apologize because he is a grown man and can make his own decisions but it would be nice to have a reunion with all the original cast members.

For those who think she should just “get over it” you must not truly understand what the woman went through all those years ago. So what if it was a long time ago. Ever heard of something called a memory? If Will was a true asshole and treated her like shit, then she should NOT get over it…she should forgive him, because that’s the godly thing to do, but she should NEVER forget and therefore should not reach out to him unless he does the reaching first. You people are nuts… Watch the video… She says it herself; She had some issues (pregnancy, anti hip-hop, zero patience) that affected her attitude toward the cast. The show is called the “Fresh Prince”, not “Viv and Phil”. If her bad attitude was corrosive to what she herself described as a fun, lively set then she should have been fired or quit. It’s simple. How are you gonna come on someones show and attempt to dictate how others are gonna act and then hold a grudge when they do it their own way? She’s mad because she didn’t have enough star power to influence the way things were being done.

Alfonso Ribeiro did an interview and explained about the situation years ago and he said Janet was rude to everyone in the cast!! He said she was really snappy to everyone and it came to the point that the producers on NBC had to let her go. Alfonso wouldn’t lie about that, so Janet is making it that it’s the whole cast fault, especially Will. She really needs to let this shit go before she have a heart attack for truth!!!

I remember watchin her life after and from what I got was that she was just very professional at her job. Some people are just like that and dont like playing around. The show just went downhill for me after she left. She seems like a classy and sassy lady. I enjoyed watching her on tv1.

Before the Fresh Prince she had never been more than a weekly bit part player on a couple of other shows. The Fresh prince was a nice 6 figure meal ticket for here and she blew it.
Considering ho good of a comedic actress she was it was silly for her to kill her own career by getting herself let go from one of tvs top shows whether it was holding out for more money or jealousy of the young kid who had his own hit show.

What a shame, loved the show I grew up watchn this show.
All of them had only tidbit roles prior to the show and well Will’s career as a rapper was evolving. To that, the show made them all successful. However, and as for Janet’s attitude, she was right to not like what she didn’t. Why should she have to succumb to things that make her uncomfortable–why could she have not been understood as a black woman and especially a pregnant woman period. It appears the set was a circus everyday and there was no control ever that accomodated the more mature cast members. That was unfortunate. Will had the whole show groupied out becasue he made them money and there was no consideration for the whole family. He could have stood up for her if he wanted, she was a great addition to the show, but she could be sacrificed and he allowed it because then he knew no better.
That was years ago and he was still very young and immature. Now that he is older, he should look back and really examine what happened and be the man I hope he is today and do what is right by Janet, if he feels she deserves to have been treated better. Even if he doesn’t. He will be blessed for it in a way he has never been; much more higher and greater than riches is selflessness and understanding.
She is still bitter…..Shame. You had a life before Fresh Prince and you have one after. You can’t have a full life of happiness if you still holding on to resentment. Let it go.
If she hasn’t spoken to Will and hasn’t known him in the years since Fresh Prince, how can she say he’s still an a** and an egomaniac? She can’t honestly expect him or anyone else to reach out to her if she’s going to use hostile language. I think she’s a person who takes her craft very seriously and was offended by the idea of someone wanting to have fun when there was work to do. But the thing that made the show what it was is the fact that they DID play and have fun with each other. Maybe Will wanted her to be a part of that world and she saw it as him trying to force his personality on her.

Sometimes we have to forgive people and move on with our life. Its not healthy to worry about what someone did 20 years ago. Will is living his life and doing great with his career. She needs to do the same with her own career.
I think Aunt Viv should have gotten over it by now. I can’t believe she is still bitter about after all these years. I wouldn’t even expect an apology from Wil after all this time….lol. Aunt Viv did not have to go public with it, that was very petty of her.
I think part of the reason why she hasn’t gotten over it is that in her book she states that the fall out with Will ended up with her being blackballed from Hollywood. If it’s true and he not only fired her, but went out of his way to make sure she couldn’t work anymore, you’d be pretty pissed off too if you were in her position.
If she’d said that “kiss my ass” line I’d probably understand Will having her fired at the time, but I don’t think she should just let it go either. Being fired from a prime time show when it’s still on the air is very difficult pill to swallow. Janet was blackballed and she even moved out of LA back to the east coast because she couldn’t get work. They used to joke about her on the radio and Will used to taunt her in the show. I’m not saying Janet was 100 percent innocent. In her absence…the show did lose some of its edge. She was a bad ass mother. Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good.
