Mary J. Blige sat down with CNN’s Piers Morgan on Wednesday night (December 7) to talk about her new album, her love and her difficult past with drugs and alcohol. The 40-year-old songstress revealed how she used to practically drink herself to death and how her husband, Kendu became an positive influence on her life:
———-
He gave me love and support in a way that I had not gotten it before. With all of that spiraling around me, and the lack of support that was in my life, before he came in, he came with questions. ‘Why are you drinking so much? Why do you hate yourself? What happened to you? You’re better than that.’ So I’ve never had anybody approach me with that kind of love before. And that’s what I needed and thats what triggered in me the love that I have for myself today.

I liked the interview. Though I’m a little tired of her utilizing her past as promo for each new album, it was great. I like the album.
Thank you. I’m so tired of hearing the same shit over and over again. That drug and booze part of her life was years and years and YEARS ago, and we’ve heard it a million times. We don’t care anymore. She needs a new angle to promote her albums for real. Believe me, she has a lot of fans, and ALL of us know her back story. Mary, stop it.
But it wasn’t years and years ago, if you were actually listening. You act like her problems only existed while she had an album out, she’s just getting herself together

Deal with it broke bitch, she is getting paid millions to tell the same story & you will die listening to it.
Love Mary and what an inspiration
I love this woman!!! Back in 2003, I was depressed to the point that I was like screw this life, then I just kept listening to My Life, Mary and No More Drama, and it helped me alot, because I was going through stuff with my mom, and I still am, but I realize I can’t change her, and honestly I’m in a better place because of listening to Mary music. When I saw Mary back in 2005 in Toronto, I cried because her music meant to me growing up and it still does. I love her latest album!!! Mary you are a true artist.
I love me some Mary ♥ ♥ ♥ For Life ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ! ! !
Simply Beautiful!!! Love her. such an inspiration
Bring out the violins… She needs to find a new way to promote her albums. I bought it for my sister, but I don’t wanna listen to it… The same sob stories.. What happens between albums Mary?? Geesh!
Stop complaining broke bitch, you cant do NOTHING about Mary, she’s a legend & here to stay & stress you broke ass out.
Mary Stan go take your meds, hun
I would like to thank Mary for not allowing the leftist media to paint her as a victim. Too many of our black artists will choose to talk about getting women, getting men, their money, drugs, etc, but instead MJ chooses to be a victor in Christ. She can actually sing and does not compromise with her sexuality.
I agree with Indigo…Bring out the violins. I get so sick and tired of Mary singing that same old song from when she was involved with K.C. Move on Mary, move on.
I have to disagree. She has moved on that is why she is still in the game 20 years later. If sharing her story will help someone who may not have been around when she going through the ordeal with KC, then it is her responsibility to keep telling it.
I am so tired of Mary and this ugly blonde hair. Enough, with KC did me wrong albums. Please go sit some place and have a fake baby like Beyonce. How old are you? 45yrs old? Enough is enough already!
LOL! She’s like a redundant chick on fb.. You know the one’s everyday talkin bout “he gonna miss me” “you ain’t gonna find another like me” “Karma’s a bitch” yada, yada…But they keep doing the same dumb shyt..Mary needs to evolve. And she has a following of black females that don’t know how to evolve either. Asking the same questions, crying about the same things..Whoa is me. Drama sales.smdh
She is too old…Enough is enough. I was never really a fan,but when she had her “first” epiphany, I was like ok,no more drama Mary…I jumped on then. If that was no more drama, how is she crying about drama each album? I don’t understand… lol
Miserable much?? I guess you rather listen to meaningless fast food crap that has no substance then. SMH. People can relate to Mary’s music. @Kandy 0874: Why don’t you have a fake baby and take a seat somewhere. Are you mad that she is a real artist, been 20 years in the game? LOL. Your a sad sad miserable person. @Indigo: Chick who are you? Lol. Your sitting on the computer talking foolishness and not singing. Lol. Jealous much? Do your self a favor, this is grown folks music right here, go back and listen to the teeny boppers crap ass songs on the radio. Poof be gone!!
I hope you are Caucasian, then I can give you a pass on that ignorant comment because you probably don’t know any better. However, if you are a woman of color, I feel sorry for you because you have some serious self hate issues going on. I am glad she is still in the game after 20+ years. She looks and sounds great.
Oh, I didn’t know she was the voice for all black women… smdh..
I soooo love her album!!! Definitely one of the best…hands down. I’ve never been a huge Mary fan, but Im now addicted! Lyrically she’s wonderful and I can relate to each and every track…very versatil. Love, pain, happiess, moving on…she has tracks that everyone can relate to! Good job Mary
Time to move on Mary! Not feeling the new album. What’s the 411 and My Life will be hard to top!
Interviewers love talking about her past. She is an inspiration. Her story will never change however, maybe if they ask differnt questions she’d give different answers. But the truth will always remain constant. Love the new album, such a throw back yet up-to-date vibe. Go Mary, Love ya
I hope I dont get attacked for making a positive comment but just want to say Mary girl your new album has been on constant repeat, I love it.
I completely agree. Mary has come a long way. I have been a fan since the What’s the 411 days and anybody who can’t see her positive transformation is definitely blind.
GO MARY! GO MARY! GO MARY! GO MARY! I’M 40 YEARS OLD AND AS AN ADULT WE LOVE THAT ABOUT HER.
THE GENERATION TODAY IS ALL ABOUT IMAGE. WHAT HAPPENED TO REAL MUSIC? OH I FORGOT EVERYBODY IS ALL ABOUT ARTISTS LIKE BEYONCE!!!! SHE TRIES TO SING ABOUT REAL LIFE BUT HASN’T EXPERIENCE ONE DAMN HEARTACHE! DO YOUR THING MARY!!!!!! REAL LOVE! THANKS FOR KEEPING IT REAL AND GIVING MAY AGE GROUP REAL AUTHENTIC MUSIC!!! REPEAT THE SAME ANSWER AS LONG AS THE QUESTIONS ARE ASKED! MUCH LOVE TO ALL WHO SHARD THEIR PERSONAL VIEWS! KEEPING LIFE REAL IS WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT!! EVERYBODY BE SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU!
that’s right Mary, you still don’t owe NOBODY your life but GOD! what kinda question was that anyway?
Lol… what yall need to understand is that just because YOU know her story doesnt mean everyone else does… God has been good to her and shes gonna keep telling the world what he helped bring her out of. Now whether you believe in God is your own issue. But for her she has a platform and shes gonna use it to help others who may not know all about her like we do.
Lee,
So true! You hit the head on the nail.
I’ll be honest; at first I was thinking why is Mary still telling the same story over and over but your comment opened my eyes and touched my heart.
thank you mary
Mary is a true inspiration. Keep telling your story girl. I guess some of the individuals who posted the ignorant comments about why she keeps telling her story don’t realize, it is her Christian duty to testify about how God has changed her life and there are younger generations that are coming up behind her that don’t know her story and may still benefit from hearing it since we have a lot of young people presently battling some of the same demons she faced.
That is so true…
I know I may get chewed up for saying this …however I could care less, Im just gone leave you all with this from the word of God, “They overcame by the words of there testimony”…In my own words…it should be talked about over and over again!!! Go Mary, love u girl, keep on allowing the Lord to use you some will get it and some wont!!
Amen to that!
I’m so tired of Mary talking about the same shit MOVE the f*** ON MARY! Move on with your life and stop talking about the same shit, it’s annoying.
LOVE me some MJb and love the new album
check out what i said about her performance on xfactor on my show on youtube
Follow me on twitter @DaRealRastaBwoi n check out my comments on xfactor Usa this week on my youtube page thx http://www.youtube.com/user/DaChatBoutMr
Mary has been through a lot. I’m glad that she was able to turn her situatuion around and become a positive role model for young black women. Go Mary!
The people complaining about Mary repeating her story must be really young or haven’t been through any trails in their lives. Once you have overcome something that you thought you wouldn’t make it through, then you will understand. Plus, Mary is just answering the questions that the interviewer ask her.
I love MJB’s new album & I love her and her music. The “My Life” album got me through college & a lot of other challenging times in my life.
I love some Mary. I dreamed on a song I wish you could sing it’s call “DAMN YOU”! LOL
Glad she got rid of all that negativity and drama. Keep doing your thing Mary, don’t listen to these fools.
I commend Mary J. Blige for continuing to share the story about her life. Mary’s “My Life” CD was uplifting for myself and many others. Life is about challenges and believe me, challenges will come a time in our lives. Those who have not lived long enough or who may not have experienced what Mary has experienced in her life, be thankful, because it could have been you in an abusive relationship, doing drugs or on a drinking binge…God has blessed her and now she is able to share her story with those who may not know how to cope with certain issues as abuse, alcoholism or drugs….be thankful that God has spared her for a reason and that reason is to share her testimony with others. Some will not truly understand until they have experienced some of these issues themselves. Take a long hard look at yourself and live in peace.
We all are here on this earth for a reason; we all have a story to tell, whether it will be a good one or a bad one….we may need to share it to help others.
I love Mary her music is hot and she’s been going hard for some years now. She needs to keep telling her story, Hell everyone else does. All the rappers tell their story “oh I grew up in the projects with no father, had 10 brothers and sisters, my mother was never home b/c she had to work three jobs, I got kicked out of school, sold drugs, got shot, went to jail and now i’m here!” I mean we all have a story to tell.
