In the next episode of Braxton Family Values, Toni Braxton and her youngest sister, Tamar get into a heated argument about Toni’s issues with Tamar’s husband/former manager, Vincent. Tamar calls Toni out for not wanting to do anything with the family anymore and accuses her of being selfish for wanting to focus on her own solo career. Toni made it clear that she’s over doing everything with her sisters all of the time:
“I have my own dreams and aspirations and I don’t always want to share them…I like to be individualized. There’s nothing wrong with that. That’s what I’m saying. I’m in a group. We’re already doing this TV show … and then we’re gonna do an album together? We will NEVER be individualized. It means I will just be a big melting pot of just my sisters 
…I have to grow on my own. But the people I am in business with now—my sisters—it’s too much.”
When Tamar says that “music is the our family business,” Toni fires back by saying, “No it’s not! Music has been Toni Braxton’s family business.” Oop. CHECK HER TONI. Tamar is a backup singer who is forever on the coattails of Toni. I’m sorry, but I don’t see anything wrong with Toni pursuing an individual career. Sometimes family can be your biggest downfall (at least those like Tamar).

Tamar is a spoiled, whiny brat. She wants to use toni to boost her own career. Toni is right. She gave rhem shine by doing the reality show with them. They need ti acvept the fact that toni was the star in their group and most groups has one break out star. In darn near 20 years you mean tell me not one of them sisters decided to go to college, and learn s skill so they wont have to mooch. Toni been taking care of them long enough.
I thought Toni had an individual career for quite a awhile. She’s basically established who she was in the 90s. I understand how she feels, but it seems like she being a bit of a witch in this video. They were harassing Tamar with doing her own thing..but since it’s Toni..it’s ‘her’ career that shouldn’t be shared. Remind you..i do not like Tamar. But SOMETIMES i see where she’s coming from.
You are absolutely right. She is selfish. Shes happy when they’re playing background to her star but dare her be on the same footing as them – she wants to be individualized. Gimme a break chick.
Toni was being catty… And I peep her game. She didn’t want to do a family album,and that’s why Tamar kept saying, If Toni ain’t gonna be on it, she wasn’t gonna be on it.. But then when Tamar did her own thing, this is when Toni came in talkingbout, “Tamar,don’t want to do a record with us”. I would have thought Tamar would have went crazy,but she was calm. Toni didn’t have any ground with this argument, she just wanted to go there.. How long was Vince her manager? She could have went to him with all that noise.
Angela, I totally understand you. I would agree at the time I would have said, and probably sort of still would say that Toni had an individual career. I mean she hasn’t featured any of her sisters in any of her videos. However if you look at her background vocal credits of her last couple of Cds since 2000′s the heat, most if not all of them include one of the family members singing. Then she uses them to sing in her live performances. So I can see what she’s talking about. It’s funny though, because she is basically saying that she wants to get away from her family as far as business and singing but she has an iron grip on Towanda being her assistant. Lol.

Ok this is what’s real: I honestly think that Toni feels doing an album with her sisters will be a step back for her (Which i agree) and she just doesn’t want to tell them. If all of her sisters had past successful albums and then form a group it may work (LSG) (Diddy Dirty Money..to some degree) or if they started as a successful group it may work, did individual things and came back that may work (Destiny’s Child). I would just be weird for her fans because most ppl will be like: Who are they? They just have to respect if she doesnt want to do an album she doesnt have to…point blank!!!
I disagree with you for that fact they did have a somewhat successful album at that time. The thing is Toni and you may feel it’s a step back but it’s not. For one thing her albums though they have some really good solid songs aren’t doing well. She’s been putting them out but I haven’t heard the amount of buzz or praise over them in the way I hear about Beyonce, Kelly, Jazmine, Alicia Keys or even (ugh!) Ciara. She pretends to say she is thinking of her career and doing it like a business. Well in a business sometimes they have to downsize (Take a step back) to make profit in order to become bigger than what they were (3 steps forward). Toni is thinking about herself all the while not noticing that while she is cooling down her sisters are blowing up. People are asking to hear them sing. So why not be smart and use that vehicle? Besides there is nothing that says if she makes the album that she can’t still have a separate album out at the same time. Gospel artist do it all the time. They sing with choirs and then also have a solo album out. It is doable.
Im over Phony Braxton. Tamar is a loudmouth, there is no denying that, but she makes a valid point. They have a hit – why not turn it into a lucrative brand, ala the Kardashians??? And why are you lashing out at Tamar bcuz your not Winning right now. Smells like jealousy to me…
Toni was alright in the 90′s. Now she is a has been thats beside herself. Tamar has a wonderful voice and can also sound exactly like Toni. I never could really understand what the heck Toni was saying when she was singing. I don’t think an album with her sisters is a step back I think it would be a step up. When is the last time she had a hit record. Toni is not taking care of the them all she can barely take care of herself. Tamar has a rich husband, Trina has her own career and her husband works. Towanda and Tracy need to get themselves together.
Well we have to remember a couple of things about Tracy and Towanda: Tracy is a regular woman who has a regular family, etc (and I don’t mean any disrespect by saying that – I’m simply saying compared to her sisters’ stardom/riches). She’s trying to establish herself and that’s something to be said for her seeing that her husband has tried all of these years to keep her out of that life. Towanda on the other hand, can’t get out of the SELFISH clutches of Toni (which I love Toni, but I do think she is being selfish)!!!! When she is able to stop being Toni’s assistant then she can move on with her dreams and aspirations.
Ahaha! I’m glad I’m not the only one who said that they couldn’t understand what toni was saying when she sings! People lash out at me when i say that. Mostly them idiots who talk like she sings. All that mush mouthing. lol. I totally agree with you and Draylasoul on Toni. But I will say that Tracy and Towanda do have themselves together. Tracy is paying her bills and has a family. She is probably the only sister that doesn’t have family problems other than her mother in law and her son’s health. Towanda needs to dump that loser Andre, but she keeps him around as a baby sitter.
An album with her sisters would indeed be a set back. The fact that folks think no one’s checking for her now is no excuse…you can’t erase all that she has accomplished (Grammys, AMAs, Soul Train Awards, diamond album, 60 plus million albums sold etc). She is NOT bein selfish…they did not jump down Tamar’s throat because she was doing her own thing; they jump down her throat because she was hiding it. It’s quite obvious Toni has been holding this in for a long time now…she talked about this last season with Vince. Toni has not really had her chance to bounce back….she’s been sick and now she’s finally feeling well. Let her try again before committing to a Braxton’s album. The others are doing their OWN thing during all this hype…why can’t Toni. All the sisters understand why Toni doesn’t want to do it; Tamar is the only one who doesn’t. I’m sorry but she knows they need her…and on the comment of Toni wanting to keep them background singers… NOT TRUE. Toni has helped them get several record deals in the past. The album could’ve been in the works by now; Toni said from the BEGINNING that she just wanted to be featured. Okay I’m done xoxoxo
Toni Braxton needs to sit her tail down somewhere. She is like 50 talking about being individualized? please Ms you had your turn and you did it quite nicely but her time has passed and aint nobody checking for her. And before somebody starts oding when was the last time you went out and purchased a Toni Braxton cd? Tamar is on the come up hopefully she dont ruin it being loud and ghetto. For the other sisters the show is all they have especially the fat one!
I just bought three of her CDs. Toni Braxton will forever be relevant…you can’t erase what she’s done….YOU JUST CAN’T.
For some reason,I feel she can be erase… No one is checking for her.. This show put her back on the map.. Ok,she is a Vegas show girl, and Broadway actress,but her hype is gone.
Her sisters are coattail riders. The only reason anyone knows who the Braxtons are is because of Toni – regardless of where her career stands today. If you can’t make it on your own without Toni, what does that say about you?
For what it’s worth i agree with Toni.
I don’t think it’s a step back: it’s because of the show and the dynamic of the sisters as a unit that turned my head back to Toni Braxton to begin with. She wasn’t doing anything that had me thinking, “hey, wow, look-it’s Toni Braxton!” for at least a decade now. I already know what she sounds like as a solo artist, and, hearing how great they sound together is what made me interested in hearing her voice again. THAT’s Toni in a new way, a fresh way that we’re not used to seeing!
I also agree with Tamar (as much as she can work nerves with her loud mouth) that it’s odd that Toni doesn’t want to use the show as a springboard to explore branding opportunities (like writing a book, ect)-with as many problems as she has financially …why not strike while the fire is hot &… GET THAT MONEY??? It’s not as if she’s Cher or Celine or Bette Midler able to sustain all those diehard Vegas type fans who will follow her around the world, buy any pack of bubble gum or coffee mug with her picture on it and keep her pockets filled that way.
Toni girl, you need to take this show for the hit it’s become, take advantage of the merchandising opportunities that come with it, get those pockets nice and phat and THEN be able to negotiate your way through a hit solo album. You have to be able to negotiate from a place of power and comfort, and right now, the shine you’re getting is coming from the sisters as a UNIT. Ride THAT for everything it’s worth, THEN go after your solo project. EVERYBODY wants to work with a person when they’re white hot & their name is all over the place with cross market appeal.
Shoot, I say write those books, come out with perfumes, keep having those talk shows book you and your sisters for all those chatty segments, get that family record out and watch people lap it up because everyone out there will buy it just for whichever sister is their personal favorite. Then after it’s a hit, watch how many producers will be beating own your door and how many artists will want to collab with you…after which comes a new media storm for you and long term gigs similar to Vegas….right now you ain’t got a lot goin’ on, Chile ..and you need to re-think your strategy.

I think Toni is just tired of having to be the springboard for everyone. she made a comment b4 that her mom would always tell her “dont forget your sisters” and she often was made to feel bad about her success & her sis’ lack thereof. So i think she feels like she gave them this show (which was only a go if she signed on)so that should be enough. Toni has been famous a long time so i think she is a lil tired & numb to it while her sisters are really excited; but it’s not new to her. While capitalizing off of the show’s success is a financially smart thing to do, I think she is just tired of being the person that everyone’s success rides on.
There is some truth in what you said. However don’t forget this one detail, even though the show was green lit because of her, it’s her sisters that make the show interesting, not her. Also there isn’t a famous person whom doesn’t carry someone on their shoulders, unless they are secluded. She needs to get over it. In a way they sisters have helped her immensely. She has hired them, paying them less than she would someone who is not family. She was using Trina and Tamar as free labor only to cry because Trina was asking her to pay her. They’ve also been singing on her Cds, whereas she would have to pay someone to do that. Come on they have helped her just as much.

Toni should be capitalizing on the opportunity. Toni put herself in an akward situation when she introducted Tamar and Vince. She knew the possibility of a conflict of interest when those two got into a relationship. I think Toni is scraed that with Tamar trying to reestablish her career and be the “new and fresh” singer, and her career not as hot as it used to be, the competition might be too much for her ego. Yes, she wants to do something on her own, that is not a bad thing, but the way she expressed it was out of pocket.

i think toni should definitely do the album with her sisters and let it boost interest back into her solo music, then do her solo album. make all the money. toni doesn’t know how to do it. do it all. reality show, family cd, solo cd. but i do think toni needed to shut tamar down. i like that part. cause from what i saw at the soul train awards, tamar is not ready for a solo career.
I love this new season and I dont know why TONI acts the way she does with her sisters umm HELLO you on a reality tv show with these chicks!?!? And I know if it wasnt for Tamar I would not be watching..#BOOM. What is the difference with doing a show vs an album?!?! Dont worry I’ll wait! lol
All this tension makes for GOOD TV. I enjoy watching this new season as well.

I agree with Toni. Tamar is annoying sometimes and she always got something to say. Anyway, this show happened because of Toni but it lasted for second season because of Tamar and her sisters.
lets think about this people. The kardansians are a perfect example. They all capitalized on Kim’s success but we all know kim is the main star. so why not do the same. I love toni braxton but she is so 20years ago. They can be the black version of the kardansians and stack in the cash. By the way, im writing from the UK, and trust me we would love to see a black family eat from the big pie that has been going around.

Tamar has been married before to producer Darrell Delite Allamby – Vincent Herbert is her second husband. I wonder why she never mentions this on the show but puts down her sisters relationships all the time? She has had a lot of opportunity to make it big in the music industy being married to two producers.
Tamar has mentioned that she’s been with some dead beat ass dudes before, she said it right on the episode where she was talking down the other Braxton’s husbands…lol.
She probably speaking from experience…..and it looks she found a great man. People always say she in it for the money, but IMO….I see Tamar really loves Vince – just from the small clips and interactions I see between them.
She may come of gold-digger, but I think its just for the drama of the show….but I think her heart is in the right place.
And (re: her career). Dreamworks honestly f*cked it up for her. They pushed her in the wrong direction with her debut.
And she was signed with Tommy Mattolla at Casablanca….but that label went under before she could release anything.
So…..yes she has had opportunity, but she’s had a lot of roadblocks too.
I don’t think Toni will be on season 3. She needs to prioritize and only do the things that she really wants to do. Seems that she was guilted into signing onto BFV show just to get her sisters some shine. Toni should keep doing music. I love all of her albums. Her albums “Libra” and “Pulse” were bangin’ but slept on because of bad promotion. She did herself a world of good by firing Vince as her manager. Tamar wants to be a star so bad, but her songs all suck. Having a great voice doesn’t make up for shitty songs, Tamar. Toni finally gets that you don’t mix family and business. Vince was never gonna let Toni shine because Tamar is his wife
