Ruching was a hot trend of the night, showing up on dresses on several actresses including Glee’s Amber Riley, M:I 4 leading lady Paula Patton, and Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress winner Octavia Spencer.
Amber went for bold, sultry red in a strapless Badgley Mischka gown. Soft makeup, long hair, and a few choice pieces of diamond jewelry completed her look.
Paula wore what was arguably the boldest hued dress of the night. Her canary yellow Monique Lhuillier gown was definitely turning heads left and right on the red carpet, and if her posing and primping were any indication, she loved every moment of it, as she should have.
The Help’s Octavia Spencer, whose Golden Globe win puts her that much closer to an Oscar, wore a lavender Tadashi Shoji gown that was tailored to perfection.

Another hot red carpet trend of the night? One-shouldered gowns. TV personality Shaun Robinson arrived to the even wearing a black and white color blocked dress that featured a fitted skirt, and loose, draped top.
Best Actress nominee Viola Davis wowed on the red carpet, in a merlot colored custom made Emilio Pucci gown. Her skin glowed against the deep hue of her gown, and she worked the dress’ thigh high split, showing off her great legs.
Queen Latifah skipped out on the red carpet activities, but she did present during the awards show, wearing a dark grey one shouldered sequin gown. The Queen always brings it to formal events, and the Golden Globes was no exception.

As we’ve already seen, blacks, whites, and greys are always popular hues at these events, and actresses Naya Rivera, Maya Rudolph, and designer/fashionista Nicole Richie continued the trend.
Naya, who stars on Glee, opted for a silver sleeveless Vera Wang creation that featured a high neckline, and center seam down the front of her dress.
Comedienne and Up All Night star Maya donned a black v-neck dress from David Meister. The black gown featured a full skirt, and textured fabric. Maya punched up her monochromatic ensemble with bright pink lipstick, and an armful of black and white bangle bracelets.
Nicole Richie went for a sultry, sophisticated look wearing a shimmery Julien Macdonald gown. She, too opted for bangles as her choice of arm jewelry, and she added even more interest to her look by carrying a snakeskin clutch bag.
Nicole wore minimal makeup for the most part, choosing to play up her eyes with heavily lined lids. Her hair was styled in a simple ponytail type style.
Lastly, but least by no means in our red carpet style coverage, we have R&B songstress Mary J. Blige who was a Golden Globe nominee for Best Original Song.
Always one to go for dramatic flair when it comes to her look, Mary wore a peach colored feather hemmed gown from Michael Kors. Dangling earrings, sparkling jewels, and a side-swept updo completed her look.

For once it looks like everyone got it right. They all look beautiful.
Everyone looks glamorous… But Paula, should not have worn that bright yellow against her bright yellow skin and dark hair… She is so beautiful, but she always looks off.
I love Viola’s dress the best. Its just enought without being too too much. Mary comes in at second best for me, she always looks gorg in Michael Kors garments
