MAG FEATURE: SOLANGE, CASSIE, JOJO & VV BROWN NAMED 2012′S ‘NEW WAVE OF POP STARS’

January 13th, 2012

Singer Solange, Cassie, JoJo and VV Brown are a few of today’s singers that have been selected as the ‘New Wave of Pop Stars’ in the latest music issue of V Magazine. In the Pop Rocks article, each artist shared a bit about their upcoming albums and what they plan on bringing to the pop music table in 2012:

SOLANGE ON THE PROGRESSIVE SOUND OF HER UPCOMING ALBUM:
“It’s the kind of record you put on when your man is coming over, when you’re with your girls. There are songs that make you wanna dance because we were kind of partying our way through the record, but it’s very chill. [...] My references for the record were all Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, not just their typical Janet and Prince stuff, but SOS Band and their b-sides with Chaka Khan. At first the songs were really dark because I had a premonition before the record that I was going to die. I was having panic attacks and wiling out.”

CASSIE ON HER NEXT STUDIO ALBUM, KING OF HEARTS:
“I have hundreds of songs recorded for this album. I’ve been working on it for a long time. Finally, I had to decide my direction. I felt kind of exposed when I stopped working in the studio. My friends would call me to hang out and I would say, ‘nope, going in the studio,’ and they’d say, ‘you’ve been in the studio for four years! [...] At the time I made the record I went out to Ibiza and I really started to feel these jungle beats. But at the same time I wanted to keep the ‘Me and U’ tone, really simple and clean. I have a lot of friends who are DJs and they like to mix, so I like to leave a really clean skeleton with the vocal.”

JOJO ON HER UPCOMING ALBUM, JUMPING TRAINS:
“I think it’s boring to do the same formula every time. I love Britney Spears and Madonna and Lady Gaga. I love pop music, those big pop records, but I still want it to fee like my sound. I hope people feel like ‘damn, that’s exactly what I’m going through, that’s what I’m thinking but I wasn’t sure how to put it into words.’ I want to sing what people are thinking and feeling. I want it to be the soundtrack to their lives.”

VV BROWN ON HER UPCOMING ALBUM, LOLLIPOPS & POLITICS:
“My second album has a message: it’s about my generation and things going on in the world. But I didn’t want it to come across preachy. I love writing upbeat songs with darker undertones. [...] Sometimes you want to shy away from political things because people will tell you to leave that to the politicians. But I want my fans to hear a message that is about questioning the world and getting them to question what fame is.” [Source]

How are 4 artists with no songs officially released being hailed as 2012′s new wave of pop stars?? It’s not even set in stone that these projects will be RELEASED, let alone released in 2012 in order for them become these alleged pop stars. Seriously, Solange “completed” her album in 2010; Cassie’s– by her own admission– been recording for 4 years (and she DID attempt to release singles that simply failed to catch on, likely due to her extremely limited singing talent); and Jojo also has been working on her project since 2010. V Magazine clearly needed to fill some space with this bullshit article.

Yeah, I don’t get it either. I think if you have enough money to make the list, you make it.

Ummm last time I checked 2 out of the 4 artists have songs out. Jojo has a new song out on major radio stations and vv brown is more known overseas but she did have a smash hit in the US about a year ago called “shark in the water”. You probably are one of those ppl stuck in a box who only listen to ppl like beyonce, lady gaga, etc that the media feeds you rather than real music. Some ppl just live to hate

Pressed_Much? Aren’t Beyonce and Lady Gaga kind of in the same category as these other girls?

JoJo has been working on her Album since 2007, not 2010

Jojo got out of her deal with Blackground in 2010 and scrapped everything she was working on prior to that, hence 2010. But ok, you’ve only further illustrated my point.

Cassie who? That girl can’t sing for a lick of paint. She’s pretty, maybe she should stick to modelling. She’s on her game with that one

    VV Brown is awesome.

Looking forward to hearing Solange and Jojo’s new stuff.

I’m looking forward to hearing Solange because I liked her last album and Jo-Jo can straight sing so I definitely want to her what she has in store. V Brown is cool with me too. I agree Cassie should stick to modeling. She’s gorgeous but singing is not her thing. I’m not mad at her for trying though. If you don’t take risk you’ll never know what you’re capable of and what you’re not.

Cassie should just do modeling b/c she don’t have it!! Jo Jo can sing for sure. I don’t know who VV Brown is. Now Solange, the Knowles PR people are working overtime with this. Let’s face it, this girl has tried over and over again to lift off a hit album and has failed or made mediocre success(and I’m being nice with that last statement). No doubt she will never reach the level of success as her sister, I’m not sure if she will reach the level of success as Kelly. Her sister has pretty much ruined a chance for her. Believe it or not most folks are burned out on Beyonce(duck as a stan throws a shoe at me),her album 4 did not do well; therefore, no one wants to here from a member of the Knowles family for quite some time. Perhaps she should consider acting.

I’m interested in Solange’s and VV browns new project. I’ll be looking out for their new singles. I’m really surprised that they included Cassie. Hopefully she’s worked on her vocals.

Anyways these pressed bitches don’t get what the article is about. I LOOK FORWARD to see the results of these predictions and also agree very much with their choices. I think that these young ladies have a lot to offer for 2012. Mostly excited for Cassie. I love her simple tone.

It says a lot about a person when they have to resort to spewing vulgarities and name-calling in order to state their opinion, or because others may disagree with them. You are extremely immature. Grow up and learn how to more effectively express yourself.

Solange and Cassie! Please don’t make me throw up while lmao. First off….solange is a very very nasty person. She is a bitter bitch and she wears it on her sleeve like a badge of honor. I’ll never support that chick. At least he sister tries to hide it. Cassie seems cool. I might support her if she gets off of puffy’s nut sack and actually grinds like other female artist. She has presence just no passion. I have my fingers crossed for jojo and v- brown has my attention. Gotta go about to throw up now.
