NEWS/STORIES: ATLANTA TOPS 2012 LIST OF BEST DATING CITIES

January 5th, 2012

It’s the top of a brand new year and a lot of our new year’s resolutions are already underway. While some of us want to lose those extra pounds, other just want to make this year their year for finding love. Well ladies and gents, according to the DailyBeast, you’re most likely to find your future boo in the southern city of Atlanta, Georgia!

Now how did they come up with that answer? They simply researched the number of available singles, their mental and physical health as well as the cost of dating in a major city, then measured their popularity on five major dating websites: Match.com, eHarmony.com, okCupid.com, Plentyoffish.com, and Zoosk.com.

According to their report, 69% of the Atlanta’s male population is single and 71% of the ladies are available. When it comes to the average salary of these men and women, it comes out to be $38,174 with a movie ticket averaging $10.52. Lastly, these Atlanta singles get a 67.7 out of 100 when it comes to their well-being score.

So if you’re in the Atlanta area, the dating life may work in your favor. I kind of wished they broke it down a little further as far as sexual orientation and race. Check out the other cities that made the list after the jump. What are your thoughts on this?

LOL!!! I’m from Toronto and I’ve heard the same thing about ATL!!! Such a shame too because there are so many nice looking men out there. I think dating in general sucks … men have too much options nowadays. It’s hard to find a man that is willing to be 100% committed to just one woman … (I’m sure men have the same problem too, but not to the same degree). Speaking on the side of a black women, we tend to stay loyal to our men, so our pickings end up being real slim, because they choose woman regardless of race. And no, I’m not making this a racial thing (so please nobody go there)….it’s just a fact. Whoever said dating is fun, lied!!!!

i agree with just my opinion black women r very loyal to their men…its great but look at how man broken homes are in our race omg. its shocking..why are the men always jumping around? why do we put so much focus on our man than we do into rounding out our own selves????do we not know our worth?? but black men also suffer from alot of things such as confidence..alot of things give them their confidence..such as having more than one woman. U really have to get to know ur man.And black women dont date.. i dont like dating because i think its very superficial to wanna put on makeup n a nice dress n try to impress someone. but we need to start opening up our minds to different way of doing things that work! not because white folks do it we can’t its about life. I would love to find a nice black man whose ready to settle down and have kids! wants to be a certain type of person in society society..too many compare themselves to their friends too sigh…

DC should not be on that list. Unless you want a thug or a psuedo thug, or a faker (aka someone with a degree but not sufficient brain power or masculinity to hold your interest)

LoL @ Atlanta being at the top of the list. If this was broken down more you could see that the single population here consist of
    A.) College students/recently graduated
    B.) LGBT
    C.) Divorced
    D.) Single parents
It’s notta bad city…but you run into A LOT of dead ends on the quest for love. But by all means, try your luck! :)

They a damn lie about ATLANTA! I just MOVED from there and that is the last place you want to date someone. I now live in SEATTLE and the dating scene here is wack too. Most black men here with white women including my cousin who married one.

I know I was in ATL for like a WEEK and the Dudes got ATL paper and they Phine as Hell Most of them I would have NEVER guessed they was gay if I didn’t see it for myself. I’ll be back VERY soon. LMBAO. Fun fun fun. On a side note the dating scene is so damn cheap. I mean Where I could only go out once or twice a week for dinner, drinks & dancing in LA, CA you could go out 4-5 times a week in Atlanta. And the food and drinks are good. Its disgusting how over priced Los Angeles is compared to Atlanta!

I heard too many stories about ATL. They are the capital for DL/gay brothers. It seems like a nice place to visit that’s it. I can’t see it as #1 for dating.

Yes for The Atl…71% of most of these men are gay or DL. Technically that’s why they are single, because they are dating each other. The women you see them with are cover-ups.

I live in the ATL. It’s kinda of hopeless for a women to find a man because the men are looking to date men as well or the men will have like 7 women at a time. Its crazy in the ATL. I don’t think it should have even made the list at all. Majority if not all lol are either gay, DL or a womanizer hidden behind the fact that they are DL. ;-) But hey..I love the state because of everything else.

Atl has always been known to have a lot of scandoulous gay men. That’s no surprise. The DL men are undercover sissies, mixed with the sellouts that are self hating. I wouldn’t waste my time dating anyone from there. Unless you like drama. TX,CA,DC or CA would be a better choice.

Seattle is a great place, but you have to be open-minded when it comes to dating, and be willing to date outside your race. Other races here love black women, more than black men. Also Seattle is beautiful, but a little costly.

The research done wasn’t as in depth like the census, it was based off simple variables such as the of cost of dating, the number of singles, etc from popular dating sites. Also, it was 71% single women, not men. Being from Atlanta, there are plenty of heterosexual males and females in all races, just depending on what environment you’re around.

Flawed report at best….in reality a Black woman’s, or any woman for that matter, chances of finding a single eligible man in the city of Atlanta, GA are akin to an ice cube’s chance in H*ll..instead of manipulating #’s get out into the streets and talk to some fokls…then you will get the real picture

    Tip

I live in the ATL, and dating sucks here! Most of the men here are Gay or on the DL and the ones that are straight are womanizers and they want a woman to take care of them. Best place to date in my opinion is NYC.

i live here in Atlanta and i would agree, it is great for dating. if u like to just meet and go on dates. it is the perfect city for dating. but if u want to be in a meaningful relationship with commitment. atlanta is not the place. there are so many single people here, so that is why so much dating is going on. none of the men want to commit, cause they think they r gonna miss out on the next one. for all the people talking bout gay or the DL situation. there is gay men and DL men in the cities where u live as well. it is not just here in atlanta. wake up.

Met young black professionals. There are a lot of gay people in Atlanta (because they come from all over the country based on the same false notion you guys are mentioning). There are plenty single straight men here. We just don’t date hoodrats

I have read the posts regarding dating in Atlanta. I currently reside in Atlanta, originally from Los Angeles. I have been lived here 12yrs. Once married, my ex husband moved me here. Altitle bout me: single, no chirldren, employed (12 yrs government), home owner, christian, wrk out four days a week. I keep myself, and consider myself attractive. Dating in Atlanta for a women is draining, competitive, mean, inconsistent, and never results to anything serious. This city has alot of beautiful women; and we’re everywhere!! Men in this city are about games, sex, ego, and nothing of the spirit or soul. No one is from here so folks just make up who they really are or what truth really is. Games, coning, lying. Does not matter age, race, income, social status. Majority of the men here are gay, or one meeting/acquaintance from being gay. If you plan on moving here for more than date don’t move to Atlanta. Yes, you can date your butt off; the men will take you out, spend their money but anything of quality don’t bother. It’s a sad shame. And something I deal with everyday in this great city. LAMO

Well….uh.. there are some decent men in Atl but no one wants them. Another thing, no decent, open-minded man wants a woman who is homophobic. Have a nice day.
