VIDEO: MARY J. BLIGE TALKS OSCAR SNUB W/ “WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE” + TWEETS ABOUT IT TOO

January 26th, 2012

Mary J. Blige appeared on the popular Bravo show, “Watch What Happens Live” w/ Andy Cohen on Tuesday night and spoke about how she was hurt by the recent Oscar snub ( VIEW VIDEO BELOW). The singer/songwriter wrote the emotional song, “The Living Proof” for the hit movie, “The Help” only to be left out of the ‘Best Original Song’ category. Funny thing is, only two songs were nominated this year — so three slots were left open. Where they do that at?

Mary also tweeted about the snub and thanked her fans for their support. Check out what she had to say below..

“I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…….”

I feel embarrasses whenever I see black woman wearing blond hair.
Black woman needs to understand that we are naturally beautiful and that we don’t need to imitate the white woman in order for us to feel good about ourselves.

I think it is ok for black women to wear blonde hair and any other color for that matter. As long as they are taking care of their hair there is nothing wrong with that. I think for Mary she has had that color off and on since 1990 so there is no reason for her to restrict her hair color now.

On the oscar snub, I think it is okay for her to “feel” like she should have been nominated but to me that song was straight boring and had they asked her to sing a better song for the movie soundtrack then there would be more debate but this one was not a classic. I hope Octavia Spencer and Viola win though.

I guess you didn’t grew up in the 90′s then. Mary been rocking that hair style since 1994 My Life, so what is the problem?? It’s not your hair, so why is it your issue?? Let me tell you something, do you know who originally rocked the blond hair?? Etta James. Back then no one had a damn problem with it, so why is it a problem now?? People stop nick picking on foolishness and concentrate on the matter at hand MUSIC!!! I feel Mary, this younger generation don’t appreciate real substantial MUSIC!! Too much of the Nicki YMCB bullshit! That’s why music is so damn lost. Mary has a right to be upset because she put her heart and soul into that track.

So does that mean white women should not dye their hair black because black hair is for black people? People need to stop being ignorant. It’s her head. she can dye it whatever color she wants. As long as she’s not hurting me I don’t care. people worry too much about what other people is doing with their bodies.

Don’t mean to be rude but black people are also born with blonde hair and colored eyes. Before you make an ignorant comment like that you should research, no its not common in America but in parts of Africa it’s very common

Relax, it’s just a hair style. Its not like she is getting a nose job and bleaching her skin.

At first I just thought Mary was pulling a Kanye but when you actually look at it she’s right and the academy is WAY wrong for this. If they had filled up 5 slots I would have told Mary to sit down but to not even fill up all five of the slots…they actually left three empty!!!! WTF is that about? It seems like a deliberate snub and that’s not cool. I’m actually starting to agree with Spike Lee when he says we (black people) need to stop looking for acclaim from whitey and start doing things on our own. However, when we do things on our own we get the Vibe Awards and we already know how that ended. LOL

thats down right disrespectful not to accept atleast 5 of the 39 songs that were eligible for nominations this year only two isnt even worth having a category that says one person wins and the other was second best

I was going to say Mary’s music appeals to black women sorrows and mass american audience do not embrace her. Then I realized the academy nominated that coonish as# 3 6 mafia’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp and granted them the win as well as Ememin’s Lose Yourself. Yes Mary I agree the academy is being chickensh#t!!!

Do your research plezzzz. Mary is not a newbie. We started out in 92. Mary’s music hit the mainstream mass America in 99 when she started working with the likes of Elton John, Eric Clapton and such on the Mary album. By the time No More Drama hit in 01 she had a major multicultural audience show up for her tour and has ever since then. You obviously don’t follow Mary to say she only appeals to the sorrows of black women. Black, white and everything in between show up for Mary. She IS the mother of R&B

Update your research plezzzz. You are bring up old duets and songs from ten years ago. No More Drama, seriously how old is that song. The point is you and I both know that non-blacks embrace pop music and Mary is not pop. I do agree she is the mother of r&b and mainstream is NOT listening to her type of r&b, if Adele, Joss Stone or Amy Whinehouse did this song then yes the academy would love it. Furthermore, like someone said below that song barely gets airplay and if you walked into a mall a poll fifty non-black people Mary wouldn’t make the top ten. Black R&b is dying and her trials and tribulations music is only embraced by depressed black women.

We as black people need to stop thinking every action against us is racist. Could it may have been that didnt feel like it was good enough. I love Mary J but I don’t personally think that it was worthy of a nomination. ijs

@AfricaBound you are totally right. Its coonish that every single downfall blacks want to scream racism. Take your nomination with pride cause regardless you were noticed to be nominated. Not everyone could be a loser and with you going in the media saying all of this, that will surely be your last nomination for that award show.

BTW I posted in here saying we need to support our black youth being that I came across an author who is just 22 and black and clearly intelligent by his writing. When I posted he didn’t even have reviews and now he has rave reviews. That is the kind of empowerment we need. Stop idolizing these hoodlums and characters that set a bad example for our race as a whole and help the ones that can actually make a difference. Check out his book on amazon. It’s not expensive at all and actually free today. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007139VX6

    umm yea

Umm everyone is entitled to their personal opinions but the critics (those that matter) raved over the song immediately. Idk if it was racist or not and neither do you, but she was definitely snubbed and to leave open slots is a slap in the face

Mary can never go wrong in whatever hair color she wears. Her and her stylist team does a great job in keeping it styish and sexy. I applaud her for doing what makes Mary feel good and look great. As for the nomination, I too hurt for Mary for not getting the recognition that is so worthy for her to have. the song was inspirational and if they can allow, “You know its hard out here for a PIMP!” to be nominated and to even WIN… Why can we celebrate a song thats’ inspiring, inspirational, and DESERVING of a Oscar. Would we rather be looked at as hoes and pimps??? Really???

Mary should be mad at her self for putting out not so hot music (My Life II). That song she did for the movie has been done a million times before and just because you did a song on a soundtrack doesn’t mean that you get an oscar nod.

    OH OK

Mary delivered real rnb and hip hop soul on her new CD. It doesn’t fit into the mold of radio friendly pop, therefore radio has been slow. Mary has made all kinds of music but this cd is for her 90′s fans who came up with her and its great from beginning to end. Mr. Wrong just charted on the Hot 100 so if u haven’t heard it on the radio in your area you will very soon. Don’t worry
