happy to finally hear something from Rita Ora, I was excited when clicking the PLAY button but ended up quite disappointed though, was looking for something with way more swag, especially coming out of the Roc Nation camp, she has EDGE, the lyrics and sound should represent that, Roc Nation keep working on the right sound because this is NOT it and this song will be quickly forgotten about and wont compete with everything else on the radio, Rita needs those Jessie J bangers

I agree Wake Up, He’s got Rihanna, Rita, and Alexis and you know these are not the most talented girls ever, he could’ve picked a dozen dark skinned chick who didn’t make the xfactor or American Idol final, or a few years ago his wife sang on U.K xfactor with a very talented darker skinned girl called Alexandra Burke who not only matched her vocally but could sing rings around Rita and he didn’t look to sign her to a U.S deal. I really think he’s got a light skinned girl mentality.

Jay isn’t promoting or signing any black chicks who can sing because he ain’t trying to create any competition for his WIFE. Duh! This doesn’t have anything to do with light-skinned vs. dark-skinned. It’s just how you do smart business. Think about it: Beyonce rarely ever says she admires another young, black female singer. She’s always speaking of some older ‘legend’ (e.g., Etta James, Tina Turner, Diana Ross) who’s days are numbered and won’t give her much competition. (And, I’m going off of memory on those names so don’t quote me, but you get my point). The last young female vocalist (beside Kelly and Michelle) I heard Beyonce give props to was Adele…and look what happened to her. She’s almost as popular as Bey. It’s almost fair to say Bey has the “Oprah effect” when it comes to music. She has to be careful who she endorses or they might become her greates competition–just my thoughts.
I agree with many of the points that you made with the exception of the Adele one. You’re giving Beyonce way too much credit for being the catalyst for Adele’s wildfire success. Adele’s become successful because many relate to to songs she wrote on 21 (I mean who hasn’t had a “rubbish” relationship?), not because Beyonce gave her a shout-out once.

The direction Rihanna is going in is obviously not a good one. And Jay is smart enough to see that. Rihanna collaborating with Chris really struck a nerve with many people – including her fans. Because of that, many people will stop supporting her and a lot of deals will be lost. Rihanna has already reached her peak, which is why Jay already has a replacement. Only time will tell.

I like the song. I think it’s the type that has to grow on people and they will eventually start to like it. It’s definitely for Spring/Summer time. I also noticed the light skin women trend Jay-Z has. Not only is his wife light skin but so is Bridget Kelly, Rihanna, and now Rita Ora. To the contrary, Roc Nation does have Willow Smith, Melanie Fiona, & Santigold who are not as light.
But hey we all have preferences so whatever, I just want to hear great music.
