In light of Black History Month, actor/singer Tyrese directed and produced an inspirational video called ‘A Dreamer’s Dream,’ where actor Blair Underwood prays to God but instead is answered by the late civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (voiced by Tyrese).
In his conversation with the reverend and his wife, Coretta Scott-King (voiced by Jill Scott), the Kings speak on the covenant of marriage, the importance of voting, and what we can all do today as a people to bring Dr. King’s dream to life. Listen to the interesting and inspiring conversation above.

I understand the intention, but I’m a little bothered by the story’s idea of praying to God and being answered by Dr. King, as if the spirit of Dr. King would even have the power to do so and give more clarity and more direction than God. Dr. King is one of our most inspirational figures and his work should never be forgotten, but I think we need to be careful not to idolize him. God answers prayers, not Dr. King.
God did answer his prayers, not Dr. King. Blair asked for a sign and God gave him a very clear one. The voice of Dr. King. I think that;s the way to interpret it.
i totally agree w/ you Eric.
dont b bothered brotha … ‘dr king’ clearly said “god answers prayers in many forms “.. he did not say ‘i am god’ … however we all must realize that the spirit of god lives WITHIN and AMONG us .. not separate from us, up above the clouds .. so we all can ‘speak’ in a god voice IF we are living a god life .. ya dig?

Excellent! Kudos to Tyrese!
absolutely beautiful piece of film making god be the glory
Very creative, Thank you Tyrese!
I LOVED IT , WE AS A PPL ARE STILL DEALING WITH HATE OF OURSELVE’S AND OF OTHER’S …..AND WE GENERATION X , SEEM LOST !!! NOT UNDERSTANDING THAT MONEY AND FAME WITHOUT TRUE VALUE AND REAL HEART’S , IS NOT WORTH A THING !
Great piece! I enjoyed watching it.
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing…. (Ecclesiastes 9:5)
I understand the intention and message but this is idealism and idolization. Our loved ones who are deceased are not in heaven. If they were there would be no need for “The Second Coming” that God so clearly outlines though out the new testament especially in revelations.
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16
When God answers prayers He uses the HOLY SPIRIT not the spirit of the deceased.
Even though the point of this video is to highlight the wisdom and advice intended for our generation to hear it is not responsible to perpetuate ideas that clearly don’t coincide with the bible i.e “Our beloved deceased kicking it in heaven being the liaison between God and ourselves ” or ” God using the spirits of our deceased to communicate with us”
I think the advice itself was excellent but I do hope this was a rough draft….
As you go through scriptures to “show” how this video does not follow biblical doctrine, be sure to include:
2 Corinthians 5:8 – “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV)”
John 14:2-3: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may also be.
I also highly urge you to be mindful of quoting old testament when dealing with new covenant promises and reality, particularly as it relates to the spiritual life of believers resulting in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. More specifically:
Ephesians 4:7 – 10: But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says, When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men. Now this, He ascended, what does it mean but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.
Please also be aware that given the prior scriptures which signal Christ receiving our spirits when we depart, your reference to 1 Thessalonians 4:16 discusses the Rapture when the bodies of those dead in Christ will physically rise after the voice of an archangel and the trumpet of God.
Damn this was really good,it was good i forgot that it was tyrese and jill scott.
What a bunch of nonsense lol & smh. If the Most High were to speak with man, He would speak through angels, not through two charlatans/pawns like MLK and his wife. Furthermore, as “Anonymous” already stated, when a human being dies, they do not go to “Heaven”. The spirit goes to the spirit world to rest and await the judgment of the Most High through Christ on the day of judgment. This is why people utilize the term “rest in peace”. The spirits are in a state of sleep (Psalmms 13:3, John 11:11-13, I Thes 4:14-18, etc.). This video is an example of raising a spirit out of sleep a.k.a. conjuring a “familiar spirit”( Lev 20:27, I Sam 28:7-19, etc.). Both Tyrese and Jill Scott, being in the entertainment industry, are certainly occultists and have no knowledge of what they’re attempting to espouse in regards to the scriptures. What they do know is that black people worship MLK as an idol, have a zeal for God, but rarely according to knowledge. If Obama was “anti-war” he would not be gearing the U.S. Troops up to invade Iran and he would not have passed the N.D.A.A.
Why do you have a problem with everything??? He was trying to be inspirational…
@ ME
I don’t have a problem with “everything”. I have a problem with lies. This is a complete lie. A MAN does not allow himself to be manipulated by propaganda like this. They are too many black MALES and not enough black MEN. What inspires real people is reality, not B.S. Too many females like yourself are acting as distractions, endorsing lies, and influencing these simple-minded black males to embrace lies…..and trying to make them feel wrong for seeing the B.S. Black people want someone to believe that they’re “pro-black” because they support Obama. Nothing can be further from the truth. Most pro-Obama blacks subconsciously want Obama to succeed in order to show the white mman that blacks can be trusted to watch his property. Furthermore miss, MLK is asleep. He is not in heaven. He was a pawn and his dream was a lie. The “I Have A Dream” speech was written by his Jewish sponsor, Stanley Levinsohn.
Amazing.
Tyrese is an amazing man…So thankful that he’s not afraid to do the works that God encourages of him to do.
I totally agree!!! I am def posting on my wall and Twitter….shoutouts to something POSITIVE for once!
I can appreciate where this is coming from and have a great deal of respect for those involved in the project. Their intentions are in the right place.
But like Eric, I am disturbed by the idea of praying to God and being answered by Dr. King
AND I am not so comfortable putting words into the mouth of someone who has passed. Yes, we can imagine that Dr. King would utter similar sentiments but it is not right to create this fiction that essentially reads as if Dr.King and Mrs. King ACTUALLY said these things. You would not do that in a film because it is unethical. ANd similar I dont think it belongs here. It is almost misleading.
I think they could have come up with a similar way of espousing these ideas and paying homage to the memory of MLK and Coretta Scott King.
Beautiful message though.
