Kanye West presented his second womenswear collection today as a part of Paris Fashion Week, and his celebrity friends were out in full force to support. The Kanye West F/W 2012 presentation saw the likes of Diddy, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Common, Rosario Dawson, Cassie, Kim Kardashian, and Big Sean all sitting front row along with big names in the industry like Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
Kanye’s last go ’round as fashion designer drew mixed reviews at best. At worst, it was called a critical flop.
But ‘Ye’s never let a little thing like negativity keep him down. He took the words of his detractors in stride, and immediately got to work on his second collection, a Fall/Winter collection that even his biggest critics would have to admit is a vast improvement over his first effort.
One former critique of his past collection, was that it lacked overall coherence. Well that wasn’t the case with his Fall collection.
There was definitely a cohesive theme of fall opulence going on, with luxe furs, soft leathers, and drama inducing thigh-high boots. If nothing else, the shoe game at Kanye West is always proper.
As for the clothes, aside from the occasional dot of fur, they were relatively minimalist, especially considering we’re dealing with someone who’s the complete antithesis of minimal.
Most of the twenty piece collection was done in black leathers, case in point the dresses worn by models Jourdan Dunn (second row, far left) and Joan Smalls (second row, far right). What I think will be the major takeaway from this collection though, are those amazing leather over the knee boots.

Apart from the boots (which i’m sure he didn’t design) the rest is blah. You can tell by the picture of him at the end that he spent more time practicing the end walkout instead of the clothes.
I liked Kanye West version one. these incarnations of him (designer, devil worshipper, fashionista) really are not working for me. The clothes are Givenchy inspired with less talent and skill at best, at worst ….. well. Maybe next season.

And that’s the problem. It has no wow factor. A designer is supposed to set the trends, not mimick them. I commend him on his drive and his ability to make his dream a reality but I was bored with these looks…
I heard today, a model said Kanye’s shoes ( the ones Kim K ) has are tooo hard to walk in. Shoot for $4800.00 them damn things need to make me fly to my destination.
I applaud Kanye. Every look is stunning, and most importantly, practical. Of course I am disregarding the $1000 + shoes (sigh). Frequently, I scratch my head when I look at NYC fashion week because the clothes appear outlandish. However, I can (if I could afford) see myself wearing each of Kanye’s pieces.

I think his line reflects him and who he is at the moment as much as his music though. I like the clothes but I do not think MOST of them are too practical. BUT, you have to consider who he is designing for. If you are looking at this from you job behind a cubical… you PROBABLY will just see these clothes and think “must be nice….” …but you see multi-millionaires in his stuff. I think he is off to a great start just coming into that game… considering who his line is geared towards… wealthy people who want to be edgy and trendy. (just my opinion)
When you think fashion in Paris or for any Fashion Week; it’s usually clothes that are over the top.
Glad to see he is going after what he wants and is trying to perfect that. Even some of the hottest designers fashions are not liked by everyone. I like those shoes Kim K has on, but for the amount of money someone above stated; they better have all the comforts of my sneakers. I am also glad to see Kanye has friends that will come out to support him.
Better than the last line, but still pretty mediocre. I think he should stick with accessories. The best part of the latest line is the fur backpack, leather hats, and boots. The clothes are lackluster, and the skirts are terrible.
P.S. Diddy and Kim K both look ridiculous.
I assume that people should only where black and fur in Kanye’s Beautiful Dark Winter Wonderland? I love Kanye as a musical artist, but he needs to come harder than that if he’s trying to break into fashion. Women should look and feel fabulous in the Fall/Winter not like they’ve been caught in an oil spill.
And Kimmy’s heels look like a cotton ball/swab craft project.
